4. As you get older you do realize that, hmm... how do I put this, a lot of people have come and gone through my life. A lot of things have come and gone through my life, but I'm still here. Weird I know, but it seems that I am the only thing that is constant. A little philosophy there for ya, ha.

5. I was born in and live in a very large city, Toronto, so I have never had that. But every single person who I know/have met that have come from a small town, have told me that yes, they definitely wanted to leave the small town that they were from. So I'm guessing that yes, that feeling is very common.

Yup, I ran the NYC Marathon in 2004 at age 42. I have also run some Half Marathons, and assorted 5k and 10k races in the past years.

But to put that into perspective, there are tons of guys who are even older than I am now who run like 10 marathons a year. So although my racing days are a fantastic personal accomplishment for me, it really is small compared to what others have done. I still run 15-20 miles a week today though.

Really good question.

I don't look that old. I work out a lot so my body is not bad, I'm in good shape. I can run a 50min 10k this afternoon, and then run a 30min 5k right after that without a problem and feel fine right after.

My face is not old either as I have been blessed with what some might call a baby face. I have no grey hair and am not balding and I don't even have a receding hair line. So even as I age, I don't look like your typical older guy. Some of the girls at work in the office used to call me pretty boy, that was about 5 years ago, in my mid 40s. I do have a very boyish looking face, and girls call my look as cute. My face is not a rugged look at all. Plus, I almost never went in the sun and I never really smoked all the much. Plus no drugs and just beer but no abuse there. I have always made sure that I have a fairly good diet and make sure I take Fish Oil and a Good Multi for decades now.

All that being said, I am starting to get a hint of that, "Fuark I'm getting old", thing. But it is all happening so slowly, that I'm not really noticing it right now. In the past year or 2 though, I have noticed some aches and pains here and there, but very minor.

Since I'm an older guy, here are some tips that I have used to try to keep myself young:

1. Try not to smoke. Smoking ages you a lot, especially in the face.

2. Go to the dentist every 4 months for a cleaning. And try to floss everyday. Bacteria in your teeth will age your face prematurely.

3. Whiten your teeth. I use Crest White strips Advanced seal. Whitening your teeth will take years off your appearance. Crest White strips work really well and are inexpensive.

4. Work out with weights and do Cardio 3-4 times a week if you can. This will slow the aging process look wise, and you will feel better too.

5. Try to keep your diet in check. Try not to eat too much junk, and make sure you keep your protein intake high as you get older.

6. Take a good Multi everyday like Orange Triad, and 3 grams of Fish Oil.

7. Get a good nights sleep as often as you can. If you are having trouble sleeping, melatonin works great and there are no sides.

8. When you want to look extra nice, for an interview or a date or going to a party, use Clear eyes to whiten your eyes, not Visine, Clear eyes works better.

9. No drugs, and keep your alcohol intake to a minimum. I get falling down drunk with my buds on occasion, but not too often.

10. Try to keep the stress level down, stress will prematurely age you.

11. Stay out of the Sun. The Sun will age your skin and it is not reversible.

To be truthful here, no, I have not done that. Don't know why really as I'm not a selfish person by nature. But I am always ready and willing to help out a bud, with moving and car repairs and chit, and I do do that a lot.

I guess I could come up with a lot of excuses as to why I haven't, but I won't.

But if you feel you want to do, do it. I'm sure those you help will be very appreciative and it will make you feel good too.

I am a Conservative. I have never voted any other way. I have never missed a vote since I was legally able to vote at age 18.

I think that Trudeau is just about the lowest. I mean, who takes a $20,000.00 fee to speak at a charity event? And his father was also a huge Douchebag. Harper is better, but he has done some stuff that I'm not happy with. Don't like how he his dealing with the current Senate scandal.

In general, I feel that most politicians are scum!

This is a really tough question, but very pertinent. I would say that because of the massive proliferation of computers, (Facetubes, txting and the like, a lot of BS gets propagated so much faster than in my day. Back in the 70s, any crap would take days for everyone to hear about it, and by that time, it would peter out to nothing a lot of the time. Here is a really good book that talks about that today:

But to answer your question directly, I don't really know about younger women today, since I don't really converse with them much because of my age. But when I was younger, chicks were just very honest and up front about crap. There was very little behind the scenes crap. Chicks I hung out with were pretty up front about crap.

About men, again more honesty back in the day. I see a lot more BS and more, "How can I screw this guy out of money." That wasn't really so much around in my day, it was there, but pretty rare, from what I saw anyway.

Stay in school. Get a Degree if you can, and go to Grad school if you can. The thing is, that it's VERY hard to change your career as you get older. I know that it's tough, I went through it. But how I got through all my schooling was, I just kept saying to myself that this will end at some point.

You cannot change the passage of time, you have no control over that. What you do have control over is what you do with that time, and what the outcome will be for you at the end of that time. 4 years will pass, but you can control what and who you are at the end of those 4 years. You can either have a Degree or not.

Oh, one other thing, work is MUCH easier than school. So you have that to look forward to. Plus you make money, which is a lot of fun.

Hmmm... tough question man. I really can't say. Since I know no other life, I have no idea what it would be like to not have those things. But I can tell you, I have enjoyed it all. Wife, kids, working, money, all that crap. But I can say that I am a very social type of guy. I know for sure that I cannot live without folks around me. If my wife died tomorrow, it would not be long before I was with another girl. I know that I can't live without a woman, that is for sure.

As to kids, here is a little story that I have told before on the Misc:

When my boy was about 8, I took him to the local store and bought him some candy that he wanted. On the way back home, he offered me some of the candy that I just got for him. I said no thanks. Well, he looked at me like I had horns coming out of my head. I took some candy from him and got back the biggest smile I have ever seen. Feels good man. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Okay, another great question. This has not been asked yet in this thread, and I'm quite surprised that it hasn't been asked already. So what I am about to say I'm sure will bring more in depth questions on the subject, so here goes:

Both of my kids were pretty much the perfect typical kids. No drugs, no crime, and did good in school. Then, for both of them, at 18, all hell broke loose. My girl is 22 now and the boy is 19. So what I mean by all hell broke loose is that when they both hit 18, they really started to question what I was and what was going on. A lot of rebellion, and a lot of disrespect to me and my wife. The girl has really slowed down on that now and she is much calmer now. But we are having a very difficult time with the boy right now. Hopefully the boy will calm down soon. But it is very stressful right now in the household with the boy.
