Equipment Forum regulars:
Do you have a specific lifting goal that you are focusing on? Looking for some friendly competition? Post your goal in here and see who is also looking to accomplish something similar. This is the place to match up against your fellow iron addicts. Whatever your experience level, chances are that another regular is right there with you! ALL goals are welcome!
Inspired by jackbravo, jshpark and I are kicking this off with a race to a 100% bodyweight press.
My starting stats: Best Press to date 180 @196 for a 91.8% ratio. I'm not sure what # I will catch this goal at. So long as it is a 1:1 ratio, I'm happy.

Damn.. The pressure is on.. 160 ohp @ 160 is my goal by the end of the year. GL!
PR is 150@163 (92%) but shoulder press progress is finicky.. I'm doing 5/3/1 right now and could not even get 145 this morning.. Subbed 145x3 and 155x3 push-press with slow negatives.. I have 150 back again next week so hopefully I'll get thatLast edited by jshpark; 10-16-2013 at 11:16 PM.

I'm happy to join in on the 100% bodyweight press, though it's gonna be forever before I get anywhere close - my press has always sucked, not sure if its a technique issue or what. This will be good motivation to work on it more though.
A more realistic short-term goal is getting to a 2-plate (225 lb) bench. My best 1RM is 217.5, and my best 5RM so far is 197.5. I'm hoping to get there in the next few weeks before my 1st kid is born (just over a month away, if all goes as planned) as I won't have much time to lift once that happens.
For deadlift, I'd like to get back to 4-plates (405 lb) in the next few weeks. I hit it once, but haven't tried it since after having to take time off and deloading.
Not sure if this really counts, but I really want to get past 315x5 on my squat. I've stalled here a few times - currently stuck at 315x3.Last edited by judgecrandall; 10-17-2013 at 12:15 AM.

You got the 225 bench easy!
I googled "How to increase overhead press"
Here are some links
http://www.allthingsgym.com/3-ways-t...sing-strength/
-shoes/stability (i'm going to start using lifting shoes instead of barefoot), tricep strength, closer hand position, unracking from a little higher j-hook/bar position on the rack
http://articles.elitefts.com/trainin...eeks-oh-press/
- false grip, hold the bar in the shelf of lats, total body lift (not a push-press), use volume, make it a priority
http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_...overhead_press
- elbows in, squeeze whole body, head back (not chin-up)
Some good stuff I haven't though about to maybe get some progress going

I like this thread a lot, although I don't think I'm anywhere close to any of you guys....I wonder if it wouldn't be worth starting a nutrition thread along the same line as this one, for those of us who would like to lose a little fluff.....

Thanks for the tips guys. I've gotten so focused on the weight being too heavy when I'm pressing that I've lost track of my technique/cues. Remembering to keep the whole body tight really helped.
Not quite sure what the format is gonna be for the thread, but I guess I'll start things off. I just did 125x5 @ 195 lbs on overhead press (64%, sigh), and 377.5x5 on deadlift (though it was more like singles than a set of 5).

Are you guys doing strict presses, or the olympic-style presses discussed by Bill Starr here? I believe the olympic-style press is the same/similar to Rippetoe's Press 2.0 (I believe earlier version of SS were strict press).

Damn it BigMarshall, from your avi I'm guessing this isn't your first rodeo. Count me in. Current deadlift is conventional 405, goal is 5 plates or 495. Will be a good bit before I get there but that's the goal. Not sure on my current press since I have never technically "maxed" on this exercise. Def going to see tonight and will report back.
I love a good friendly competition!!!! To bad my feelings are going to get hurt....▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #47

Sounds good. I'm on my 4th cycle of 5/3/1 and I love the program. I'm at a 190 press at 200 body weight. Getting close. For whatever reason I've always been a good presser.....now my squat...that's the lift that brings everything down....I'm just not a good squatter.
I'll see if I can hit a 200 press by Christmas. Edit: I lift totally RAW - no belt, wraps, nothing.Last edited by Vmango; 10-18-2013 at 08:58 AM.

Ok just tried my luck at pressing body weight of 180. Did better than I anticipated, but still no bueno.... came close to pushing 175 but got hung up about mid rep, backed it down to 165 and made it up with that. Working towards 180.

Just hit a PR on 20 rep deep breathing squats. I hit 250 20 times today, I started at 225 for 20 reps at the beginning of September and went up by 5 lb increments each week. Not much but I'm proud of it. Goal is 300 for 20 one day....stay tuned!!!!
