I loaded up on some choice green beans this week too. Made a batch stir fry style with some pecans and packed up a few leftovers to have with lunch at work. Now Im just hoping my zucchini plants produce well. Won't be too much longer.
Fresh veg is starting to appear here already, and it's all been good. I've never stir-fried green beans before but have included them in various stir frys.

I can't imagine you'll be short on Zukes, Robert; I think they're one of the most prolific garden veggies of all time.

Hey, G; thanks. I'm in a much better place now than I was back at the beginning of April when I first went to the Dermatologist. I'm gradually making progress back, but it sure hasn't been easy.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

Off to a good start for the week's training. My back is gradually becoming reacquainted with a barbell; it's not comfortable, but it will get better with time. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    135x6
    175x6
    175x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    135x6
    135x6

    Wide-grip Pulldown PWO
    70x10 W/U
    140x6
    140x6

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    175x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    bar x6 W/U
    105x6
    105x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x23
    bw x12

Worked through in an hour and ten minutes. While the surgery site on my back doesn't like the bar, my legs definitely do; I got a really good quad pump from the return to Squats, and increased it with the sets of Lunges. I'll have to bump up slowly to desensitize my back. Not a problem though; I'm in no special hurry.

My right shoulder squawked loudly at the first work set of Machine Inclines, so I adjusted the load down a bit for the second. I'm not surprised at this; my arthritis never stopped even though I had to stop training for all those weeks. I'll do what I'm able here.

Supersetting the upper arm exercises produced a massive pump, even with the relatively light weight. Going to continue with this light load on arms until I feel everything else has pretty much caught back up.

Not much else to report; the muscles pumping up, while not an indicator of certain growth, is a prime indicator I'm giving them some work, and I'll continue to inch my way forward.

Post-WorkOut meal was a broiled marinated chicken breast, sauteed asparagus, some very sweet corn, and a glass of milk.

    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

    Thanks; I appreciate your comments.

The main thing I've always tried to do on this site is to help others find what I've found in this lifestyle. And as I've stuck with it over 25+ years now, I came to realize quite a while ago that none of this is really very complicated; it's mostly a matter of just sticking with it and making adjustments as you go based on your goal and your real-world results along the way.

YW. I got that one from Plateauplower, one of the other regular posters on this site.

I've always liked cauliflower, but that recipe, even as simple as it is, takes it over the top.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

Day two of three training days on the week went well. Other than my arthritic shoulder giving me some grief, I'm on schedule. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    140x6
    180x6
    180x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    140x5
    140x5

    Wide-Grip Pulldown PWO
    70x10 W/U
    145x6
    145x6

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    bar x6 W/U
    110x6
    110x5

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg Raise
    bw x23
    bw x13

Burned an hour and five minutes during this session. Most lifts are moving right along; my back still isn't happy with the bar, but it will get better over time. I'll continue to add weight gradually.

My right shoulder was marginal today on pressing exercises; I'll remain at 165 on Inclines for the remainder of the week. The shoulder also cost me a rep on OHP, but it is what it is.

Not much else to add here. I'll close out the week's training on Friday.

Post-WorkOut meal was a pair of sausage patties accompanied by a pair of home-made rosemary biscuits, a bowl of tasty fried apples, and a glass of milk.

    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

Hey, thanks, Elrond. I feel like I'm about halfway to where I want to be, and it's been tough just getting back to that point.

This issue with my right shoulder, although not entirely unexpected, is likely to slow me down a bit, but it isn't going to cause me to quit; I'll continue to move forward as I'm able.

Yeah, I've been there. I'm just now coming out of it, actually. If you're anything like what I've seen of your posts, this all just makes you more stubborn.

Lulz. I am indeed how I post; I don't give up easily.

Probably everyone who has managed to reach our age has gone through some rough times. Our problems don't define us, but rather how we deal with them.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

End of the training week saw a good session; I'm making slow but steady progress back. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    145x6
    185x6
    185x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    145x5
    145x5

    Wide-Grip Pulldown PWO
    70x10 W/U
    150x6
    150x6

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    55x6 W/U
    110x6
    110x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x24
    bw x12

Rolled through here in an hour and ten minutes. The surgery site on my back is gradually becoming less sensitive to the pressure from the bar, but I suspect it's going to be a while before i can just load it up. Not really a problem though; I'll just keep at it.

My shoulders are still not happy with pressing moves. For the past 25 years, I've been fighting RA and holding it at bay with weight training, working as hard and heavy as I was able. But during the 2 1/2 months I was unable to train by doctor's orders, the arthritis didn't take any time off. But just like the scar on my back, this isn't a real problem either; I'm used to this battle and will contine to fight it.

The Wide-Grip Pulldowns still surprise me. Previously, when I tried these, they hurt my wonky shoulders. Now, however, they feel good, and have provided me with the best lat/upper back pumps I've experienced in a while. It's probably because I'm using moderate weight and a very controlled rep cadence; there's a lot to be said for sometimes using perfect form.

That's it for the week. Over the weekend, I'll evaluate where I've been, where I'm at right now, and what I need to do to keep going forward on Monday.

Post-WorkOut meal was a big ol' 10 oz cheeseburger with horseradish mustard, an equally-large salad, and a glass of cold milk.

    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

Start of a fresh week of training after cleaning up all the yard debris from yet another monster storm that blew through here yesterday evening. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    150x6
    190x6
    190x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    150x6
    150x6

    Wide-Grip Pulldown PWO
    70x10 W/U
    155x6
    155x6

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    65x10 W/U
    110x6
    110x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x21
    bw x14

Burned an hour and ten minutes here. My back continues to protest the bar, but I'm going to 'press' on, albeit slowly. Joints and muscles like the work, and that's what's important.

Shoulders were more agreeable to pressing exercises today, but I'm still going to stick with the same loads for the remainder of the week.

At some point I'm going to have to add more exercises; when I do that, I'll probably move to some sort of split routine. Adding more and more work to a FB plan isn't sustainable over time.

That's all I've got for today. I'll continue to march on Wednesday.

Post-WorkOut meal was poached eggs on buttered toast, bacon, a cup of cottage cheese, and a glass of milk

Continuing to make progress as I gradually increase training loads. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    155x6
    195x6
    195x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    155x5
    155x5

    Wide-grip Pulldown PEWO
    90x8 W/U
    160x6
    160x5

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    65x6 W/U
    110x6
    110x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg Raise
    bw x22
    bw x13

Worked through again in an hour and ten minutes. So far, I've been able to maintain the same pace through each session while completing more work, and that's always a good thing.

Legs feel good; I'll continue to add weight to the bar as my back allows.

My shoulders still squawk a bit from pressing moves, so I'll stick with the same loads through Friday's session.

Not much else to report other than it feels good to do work.

Post-WorkOut meal was a very large bell pepper stuffed with rice, black beans, salsa, and three kinds of cheese. Accompanying was a glass of cold milk.

    No brain, no gain.

No, it's not, Mark; near the bottom of the mats is a vague reference to a children's fairy tale (as best as I can make it out). My wife bought them for the "Faith-Love-Family" script and the color of the mats.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

End of another week of comeback workouts that went well. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    160x6
    200x6
    200x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    160x6
    160x6

    Wide-Grip Pulldown PWO
    90x10 W/U
    160x6
    160x5

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    65x6 W/U
    110x6
    110x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    ...superset with...

    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    55x8
    55x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x22
    bw x13

Worked through here once again in an hour and ten minutes. Legs feel good, but the surgery site on my back is still squawking. I'll continue to bump the loads up a little at a time.

Got my reps on Pulldowns but will stay @160 at for at least one more go-around; I just got that 12th rep, so adding more weight isn't the right thing to do yet.

The arm superset now feels like little more than a walk-through, so I'll bump the loads up just a bit on Monday.

I'm still planning to stick with this full-body approach for at least one more week.

Nothing else to relate at this time.

Post-WorkOut meal was rigatoni with chicken, veggies, and homemade marinara, a side of fried green tomatoes (these are really good), and a glass of milk.

    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

Good session to get the week's training off to a good start. Back and shoulder still squawking, but I made progress in spite of it. Today's training was:

    Squat
    bar x8 W/U
    95x8 W/U
    165x6
    205x6
    205x6

    Barbell Lunge
    95x5 W/U
    165x5
    165x5

    Wide-Grip Pulldown PWO
    90x10 W/U
    160x6
    160x6

    Smith Machine Incline Press
    95x10 W/U
    165x6
    165x6

    Overhead Press
    65x6 W/U
    110x6
    110x6

    EZ Bar Curl
    35x8 W/U
    60x8
    60x8
    ...superset with...
    French Press
    35x8 W/U
    60x8
    60x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x22
    bw x12

Took my customary hour-and ten to work through here. Bumped the leg work up where I was able, but the Lunges really put pressure on my surgery site, I guess because of all the motion. I'll stay with today's load on them for the rest of the week.

Incline Press was a little easier on my wonky shoulders today; I'll try a 5-pound jump on Wednesday.

Can't think of anything else to add other than how good it feels just to be able to train at all. Things could have gone an entirely different path, and I'm very grateful they didn't.

Post-WorkOut meal was marinated and broiled chicken, fresh (store-bought) cheese ravioli with garlic/butter sauce, a super-tasty fresh salad, and a glass of cold milk.

    No brain, no gain.

    You can't out-train bad nutrition.

Glad to see you progressing with these. If memory serves, I saw similar numbers a few weeks ago but then they were dropped and then incrementally increased to where you are now. You're approaching bodyweight which might mean chins are just around the corner

Thanks, Mark. Getting back to Chinups is where I'm headed, and I need to get some posterior-chain/lower back/glute/hamstring work in there too, but I'll have to split the routine up before I can add anything else. I may do that next week.

Still moving forward with a good session on the day. Today's training was:

    Squat

    170x6
    210x6
    210x6

    60x8
    60x8

    ...superset with...

    35x8 W/U
    60x8
    60x8

    Hanging Leg raise
    bw x23
    bw x13

Burned an hour and ten again today in completing this work. Legs feel good, back is coming along.

Shoulders still protest 'push' exercises; I'll add another warmup set to Inclines on Friday to bump up the volume, and then see if that helps.

Nothing else to share. I'll close out the week's training on Friday.

Post-WorkOut meal was a plateful of beef and brokkoli stir fry accompanied by a glass of milk.

    No brain, no gain.

I agree; I've tried several brands, and won't buy any other than Kikkoman. And you're right about freshness; it's like any other food item.

That is literally the biggest bell pepper I've ever seen in my life. From your garden? I've tried some Filipino style soy sauces which include a fingerling lime and some other stuff that kicks it up a notch. Hard to find and sorta pricey though.

I go through Kikkoman quickly and opt for the big bottles. I take a tbsp of it or two every day for easy sodium because I rarely salt food.

Lulz. When I saw them in the grocery store, the day's menu immediately changed.

No, not from my garden this year; maybe next. At the beginning of Spring, I went through a couple of surgeries to remove moles, and the stitches and subsequent recoveries involved no physical activity, so I couldn't get a garden (other than some potted herbs up on the deck) ready for this season.

    Next Spring................

The only ones available around here are a few generic brands, and Kikkoman is by far the best of those. And indeed, soy sauce brings not only flavor, but a unique saltiness that's not at all the same as added table, sea, or kosher salt.

    Ironwill2008 V3.0

Rehab had been going well until my 3rd work set of Lunges today; I pulled my right hamstring. I had a similar occurrence a year or so ago in a non-training-related incident. It took several weeks to resolve to a point where I could train effectively again; I'll see how I feel on Monday.

Out of caution, I scrubbed the remainder of the session.

....if it isn't one thing, it's two things.

Been there. It sucks. I've been having a lot of Charley horses in the last few months. Which is fantastic when you live alone and suddenly you cry out in pain and no one's around to bring ice or something.

Yeah my youngest mint plant died because I forgot to water it one day and we had some dry heat set in. I think the root system is alright so I'm hoping it pulls through. I think it's because soy sauce has natural glutamates (natural MSG) and that typically brings something called ummami into it. The same way cooked down mushrooms are delicious and you can eat a few pounds of it before your stomach can react. Especially if cooked in butter only.

It's disappointing, to say the least.

    But this too shall pass.

All the plants in the mint family (square, 4-sided stem) are perrenials; as long as the roots are intact, they come back every year. Keep it watered, and it should regenerate.

That's exactly it----umami. Along with good soy sauce, tomatoes and mushrooms, in particular, are loaded with it.
