In the 70s most air travellers were business men and it was very expensive to fly. The stewardesses had nothing better to do than coffee, tea, or me? They were paid in excess of $50,000/yr which was not bad for the 70's. Lots of them were out of work models. They only hired white, single women. Now its families mostly and its cheap to fly and they have meal service and safety responsibilities and since the airline workers strikes, their salaries have not kept pace with the times, so you get what you pay for.

They used to hire stewardesses based on their looks and they had a mandatory retirement at age 31.
Now PC America prevents them from discriminating against uglies and they all work long past age 31 because it's a cush job and they have union protection.
