Any of you guys have a TDI?
Specifically a sixth gen. My sister had a TDI jetta, and I drove it quite a few times, and really liked it. My commute recently increased by a lot and I'm thinking of buying one. But am just looking for second opinions.

My friend drives about 1 hour each way to work every day and had to make up his mind between a GLI and a TDI. After driving both, he chose the GLI and still gets mid-upper 30mpg range with it, and it's much quicker. If you can deal with a slow car, and the fuel difference will pay itself off in 3 years or less, I'd consider the TDI. Otherwise, just go with a 2.0 TFSI.

2011 TDI. Owned it since July and I love it. Only thing I don't like is that they're expensive to maintain just like any German car, I suppose. I got a MT, DSG is even worse on the wallet in the long run I'd predict. Otherwise they've got great longevity. Coldest start I've ever done was about -10 in Chicago and its not a problem at all as long as you give it 30 seconds for the glow plugs to warm. If there wasn't a difference in price between it and the GTI/GLI, I'd go with the TDI. The torque is just what makes the car fun. I may be biased towards diesels, though. This car makes me want to own a 330d over an M3.
They're probably not worth owning financially unless you do a lot of frequent highway driving and own the car for a long time (which is what it was seemingly designed for, anyway) in order to makeup for the premium cost of a TDI badge as opposed to buying a standard petrol Golf, Ford Focus, what have you. I do mostly city driving -- I drive the snot out of the car and still get 20-something MPG. Lol I fill up twice a month but I don't drive as much as I used to. But If you're driving consciously on the highway you can certainly average 45 MPG in the right conditions.Last edited by ClaudeGiroux; 01-29-2014 at 12:10 PM.

What's new VAG crew? Just snagged a 2002 A6 2.7t 6MT last night for $500. Stutters like crazy and has the worst cat converter stink I've ever smelled. But $500. Digging into it this week before deciding if it's gonna get parted out or flipped.

I thought they were going downhill after the B7 but my mothers B8.5 is probably the smoothest car I've ever driven. I'm interested to see what's coming next, especially with the new A3/S3. That said, as much as I like my B6, I can't see owning another Audi as a "hobby car" unless it was a monster of a B5 S4.

Just ordered another allroad. We have a C5 allroad that is at stage II now and we decided to spend my last deployment savings on a 2014 allroad prestige.
I ordered it at Barrier in Bellevue."Many want to wear the beret, few want to carry the rucksack"

<<<C5 allroad driver. I had to replace my turbos and just went with K04's, I only wanted to have around 380HP as I havent had it retuned to a stage 3, (and Its my family DD). Now if only Audi would slap twin turbos in my new allroad and came back with factory air ride I would be a happy person.

I almost think it's better that the new Allroads came coil sprung. A top of the line air ride kit probably would never exceed $5k installed, and you won't have to deal with the factory mess.
Twin turbos I will agree with you there. Or a 4.2 option. 6MT option would be great too but the new 8 spd autos are incredibly responsive and smooth IMO.He that lives upon hope will die fasting. -Benjamin Franklin

But the new allroad is not at all any different then the A4 Avant really. I was a little disappointed in it, however since a B8 RS4 avant isnt coming to my garage anytime soon, I decided since I love my C5 allroad this would be its replacement. I will most likely run accuair and keep it all show and sorta slow.

Solid plan and good point. Basically just a factory body kit on the new Allroads. C5s are awesome cars, I miss the space and comfort of my C5 A6 Avant. You'll be super happy with Accuair, once it's in (as long as it's installed correctly) it's really a zero fuss system and rides great.

I am ready now to upgrade my C5's suspension some. We almost went static on it but I really have no reason to. All the bags are Arnott Gen II's installed at Audi, I have warranties and the compressor is only a year and a half old. I do want it to raise and lower faster though I am thinking upgrade all my hoses and run a bigger compressor.
