Any of y'all read Sam Harris and Majeed Nawaz's book on islam? Would be curious to see what you guys think of it.

I think Majid Nawaz is a closet Kafir who still calls himself Muslim for one simple reason: his targeted audience (which is Muslims who have weak iman and non-Muslims who want to reform Islam) will be more comfortable supporting him if he claims to be Muslim himself. Sam Harris writing this book on his own isn't as impactful as a man who claims to be Muslim writing it with him and in many cases arguing in his favor. If he were to ever to admit he left the religion, that targeted audience would pay less and less attention to him and he knows this.

One time a man approached the Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wa-sallam about his desire to take part in Jihad, the Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wa-sallam replied asking if his parents were alive and the man said yes, to which the Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wa-sallam responded "then exert yourself in their service" and this was his Jihaad

It won't ever be reformed lol, if even just one letter was changed, the Ummah's response to it would be as if every letter of the Qur'an was changed. Even recontextualization is difficult because of the principles of Fiqh.
