I recently purchased four pairs of 1.25 lbs magnetic plates from power-systems.com on their 50% off free-shipping sale event. They have strong magnets, but the equipment you are attaching them to should be more or less bare metal and cover platemate's full surface which is about 3" in diameter. I got them to use solely with my adjustable dumbbells. Overall I like them.

I love platemates. I have all of the sizes for pro dumbbells and use them to fill in the gaps between my 10lb increment set. They also come in handy when trying to increase weight in smaller increments on pulley machines with stacks.
