    People who never do any cardio... You're doing it wrong.

    I understand I'm on a bodybuilding site and the main goal is to build muscle. But people who work out 5 times a week and never do cardio are actually doing it wrong. Just know that everybody should do at least 20-30 mins 3-4 times a week with their HR maintained at least at 160. This has been proven to reduce hypertension, induce healthy LV hypertrophy, bring HDL/LDL to healthy levels and +. HIIT alone won't have as many benefits on blood pressure and HDL. Actually there are studies that link HIIT to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

    I insist on LV (left ventricular) hypertrophy as there are 2 type of LV hypertrophy. One that is associated with runners (which is healthy) and another form that is associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It has been shown that lifting weights without any cardio will induce a form of LV hypertrophy that is seen in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients and this is not good, this form of LV hypertrophy can lead to sudden cardiac arrest and torsades de pointes (aka arrhythmias). While most pro bodybuilders know about this and will include at least 3 cardiovascular workouts/week in their training, many amateur bodybuilders forget about cardio and go on with weight training only for years.

    Keep this in minds folk. 3 sessions/week, 30 mins and HR around 160 is the way to.

    Edit: I'm actually doing a research project on sudden cardiac arrest in athletes and I learned about this recently during my literature review. I will post reference if asked.

    You should aim for an aerobic exercise that brings your HR at 80% of your maximum HR. (220-age) = Max HR

    Started intense cardio this week, and it kills my legs. My quads have been sore all week. Honestly, I feel a lot better after a heavy cardio session, than I do lifting. The pump is the best feeling, but after you do cardio your nostrils and lungs feel so clear, you just breathe better.

    GJDM. I always start my lifting session with 30 mins of cardio, I feel pumped for lifting and no need to use preworkouts.

    but should where to get your hr at depend on your age? i have sex 3-4 times a week and just started to do a "cardio/abs session once a week on top of walking and all the stairs i walk up/down.

    I'm not hating on HIIT. I'm saying that HIIT alone has less benefits on your cardiovascular health than classic cardio. A new case report links HIIT to LV hypertrophy.

    I actually do 30 mins with my HR at 160-180 bpm, then lift for an hour and finish with HIIT/sprints and I get the best of the 2 worlds.
