Depending on OP's feet that could really mess him up.

I ****ed up my shins from running in minimalist track-type shoes. Since getting more substantial shoes with a lot of bottom support I haven't had any shin/ankle/arch problems.

OP if you go to a running store they will help get you what you need.

Definitely. My short run shoes are more minimalist than my long run/race shoes. Longer distances will more than likely require more support.

Probably because your natural gait has been ruined from wearing shoes your whole life. Also any shoe that is designed to support the ankle typically restricts it's mobility and increases the risk of injury to the knees substantially.

For those following along, I've been tying to do cardio daily with a mix of walking and jogging on the treadmill. Most has been done walking at 4.5mph @15% incline with roughly 8-9 miles a day

I did 13.5 miles two days ago and in the middle of attempting 15 this morning

If anyone did want to donate to the cerebral palsy foundation, please PM me

Every dollar counts. I'd be seriously thankful for a $1 donation even. 100 of those is an extra $100 to a good cause

It's not designed to support the ankle, it's designed to support the arch. Which are two completely different places. I only mentioned that I haven't had any ankle problems since wearing the shoes.

And if our feet have been "ruined" from wearing shoes, then it would behoove someone to take into account that adjustment as opposed to fighting it. I don't have years and years to retrain my feet to not wear shoes and I'm guessing neither does the OP

Seriously. It took me 12 weeks of training to be able to run my half. Nice work.

The only thing I would caution is pushing yourself too far too quickly. There are plenty of running injuries associated with doing that.

As an athlete, I know you're aware of the potential risks of taking on too much too soon. Just remember that it applies to running, too.

Ex-Marathon brah checking in. There is really no need to be running upto 16.5 miles or really splitting up your runs in the day unless you really have to. If you just want to finish then all you need to worry about is getting in some nice and steady miles. But if you are planning on trying to be competitive then yes, you will need a decent plan with progression.

Just get in your miles, lots of recovery and you'll be fine. The limiting factor for most people on their first marathon is that their ligaments and tendons give out and then it just becomes a waddle. You will only overcome this by getting in high miles which are nice and easy.
Currently Raising Money for; MS Society + Alzheimers UK
    Current Goals;
    - Run 150Km in 24 Hours
    - Run Marathon in Under 2:50
    - Run 1500m in (4.05 / 3.59)
    - Squat (200 / 220Kg) and Deadlift (222.5 / 250Kg)

He is not "running." I do see the merit in what he is doing, as he is conditioning his legs and feet for the upcoming endeavor.

    Yeah I'm more like jogging

I am starting to introduce intervals sort of increasing the overall average over the entire distance

    I.e 4.5mph for 3 hours has now become 5-5.5mph

I.e this is currently (treadmill resets at 109min so I had to stop and restart)

Go to athletes foot they make you walk on that electric mat where it maps your steps from there they decide what type of running shoe will best fit you.
Then go you to another retailer to buy that shoe as they are expensive there.

Congratulations on deciding to run a marathon, you will certainly have some bragging rights! Start small, find a program and stick to it. If you have enough time to prepare for it and stick to your plan, you'll be ready for it before you know it! Make sure you get the right pair of shoes. This is huge. Go to a local specialty shop and have them fit you for them. You might pay a bit more up front, but the trouble it will save you down the line is absolutely worth it.

Yeah I will go in there, issue is they don't have the exact shoe I've looked at online, only similar and same brand

I.e would 2 Asics fit the same?? (If similar style)
