ITT: Do I even lift? Well here's my story.

Had this thread moved here into the Motivation forum, People seem to think it's inspiring - so ha, I guess you could use this for motivation if you are in a similar situation, or even if your not.

This is going to be a wall of text and images. If you're not going to read, don't comment.

Basically I thought I'd make this thread because I am frequently asked whether I even lift or not due to my stats. I am sick of repeating myself so from now on I will be directing people to this thread.


From around the age of 11 I have been suffering migraines. Two years ago (stats of 6'2 & 185lbs - see pic below;

I started having them chronically, 4 out of 7 days per week and I also started suffering from insomnia. My weight and general well being declined heavily from here and I dropped to around 160lbs quite quickly.

Of course I went to the doctors by this point but after a flurry of misdiagnosis and even being detained for 24 hours under the mental health act (So ridiculous please don't even ask), and also having being prescribed various drugs including beta blockers, anti depressants and strong painkillers - I was finally sent for a CT scan. By this point I was around 145lbs and I don't have any photos of this time but here's the closest thing I could find to my build.

I was diagnosed with Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (uwotm8?), which is basically increased pressure on the brain for reasons they don't yet understand. For some reason I was prescribed a drug called Gabapentin, now being a little weary after all the medication I had been falsely supplied I did a google search - this is a drug used to relieve the brain pain of cancer patients. Fuark?

Anyway, feeling down and out. Literally incapacitated by the drugs I decided something had to be done. I couldn't rely any longer on medication so I took a gamble - and I went cold turkey. That's when I came here, weighing in at 6'2 and 144lbs I came to bodybuilding.com to make a change. My weight came back as quickly as it had gone (at first) and for the first time in a long time I felt great. I still get migraines (2 days out of 7) but it's bearable.

I received a letter 3 months later, just after my follow up scan in march;

My mystery disease had gone. My test results were clear and now I'm on route to the best physique I ever had.

I know I have a long way to go, currently standing at 6'2 and 179 lbs - I might not look like I lift, but coming from 140's - I still feel it.

Good job man. Although 174 at your height isn't mind blowingly small. I wouldn't call u out on it or anything

But I do understand having issues tho. I have battled my issues with setback to my physique and now im determined to not be stopped

So did you ever get any real explination as to what was going on? Something had to be causing your migraines, are you afraid they might come back? You said the ct scan found pressure in your brain, they really had no idea what caused it? I have very little personal experience with doctors, I hate going and reading stories like this make me so frustrated. A friend of mine was going to multiple different doctors for over 6 months trying to find the source of his headaches, it took a new doctor less than an hour to determine it was a bone spur on a vertebrae in his neck.

Was it hard to go cold turkey off all your meds? I know quitting narcotic pain medication is a real challenge for some people.

I know those feels bro...little do they know I started like 25 pounds lighter with virtually no fat gain. But this is misc...what can you do. Congrats on getting better, hopefully you keep going up from here. Repped

Same goes. I'm 178 at the moment but a big turning point for me was all of the people I would see that would say, "Oh haven't you lost weight." or "You don't look healthy." - I was actually accused of being a drug addict by someone at one point but I was just sick of explaining my situation and now I am here I don't want to have to go through it all again.

Before my CT scan I was actually told to prepare myself as it was likely to be caused by a tumour or cyst in the brain. I had a lumbar puncture done and that shown increase pressure on my brain but the CT showed nothing like they expected. Apparently, little is known about my condition - apart from a high chance of going blind in some patients. I've been the remission rates vary and were inconclusive to give me a definite percentage.

Cutting the drugs was quite easy because taking them was a chore and they made me feel so sick some days.

could not deal with migraines 2/7 days...I get one like every 2 months and it is the worst pain I can imagine. I feel like breaking my arm just to distract my brain from the migraine. Usually throw up and get nasuase as well.

I know, the same with me. I get very bad photophobia too - so the light burns out my eyes. I hate people who think it's simply a headache..

Good stuff man, that's impressive. Similar thing with me, nhs trains everyone to just prescribe you any kinda meds so they can make money off you being vulnerable.

I had joint aches and felt kinda down and the doc got me on a ton of antidepressants, convinced me i had to stay on them for atleast 2-3 months for them to begin working and then everything would be better. Worst few months of my life, literally mentally and physically incapable of doing ****, went cold turkey as well and I'm finally feeling better (took a good 4-5 months to just get the terrible fatigue and other bs and mental instability to go away). Should be able to sue these bastards or somethin, they can literally ruin your entire life just by giving you some chet that you dont even need, but they insist you need it and you think they must know whats up, medical professional and all. It's all bs.

Keep training hard bro, never give up.
