Still training with the gf several times a week. I've also joined a "pod" of about 7 people and we train at each other's houses, plus an "open mat" with all of us on Saturdays. Marcelo's still isn't open due to strict NYC rules, but we're hopeful given that wrestling practice will be allowed to take place in September. The gym is opening for solo drilling Sept. 2.

Salamalaykm brother, our gym hasn't opened its mats up yet, mysel' and a few others got a membership at another weights gym, just so we can use their mats. Been focused on wrestling in the park over the last few months, have made big improvements in that area. Got back to the BJJ over the last few weeks as well.
Would have received my black belt, if the Chinese flu hadn't hit. Glad I aint got it yet, maybe the Chinese flu did me a lickle favour.Hogan Warrior Taker Bret Y2J

Had my first “official” class where we had 15 people together rolling. Since November. And had weird 5 person classes all last summer. But have been training in peoples back rooms and basements and grinding out and finally got blue belt last night. I also heel hooked myself trying to lock in a triangle instead of grabbing my shin and popped my ankle so today’s gonna be fun... ;(

Went to my 6th class last night, no gi, it was quite eventful. This kid said he’d been training for 2 years, azzhole went balls to the wall everytime we rolled, tapped me out 5 times in 5 minutes, wouldn’t even let me think things through, which was quite annoying. He knee’d me in the nose and I leaked blood all over him. Next kid he rolled with he accidentally head butted the kid and split his upper lip. Not sure if that was good rolling etiquette when rolling with 2 noobies but whatever, what do I know.
Then the black belt master class trainer dude snapped his leg in half and his patella and tendon were just floating around his knee cavity, called the squad to pick him up and class was over lol.
We were learning the Russian gift wrap takedown or something, get control of the arm to pull them in to go for the leg takedown, another newbie was practicing on the teacher and put all his weight on the dudes leg when they droppedDeadlift: 435
Squat: 365
Bench: 325

Anyone have any links to some great back attack and back control vids on YouTube that explain the position and what to do very well? My biggest weakness is attack and maintaining the back. I’m a blue belt and have so much trouble getting things from the back... I mean against a white belt no problem but blues and purples are difficult for me.

bow and arrow to arm bar is a classic and amazing, yes! I've used that in a bunch of comps and it almost always works.
For back takes--study Marcelo. Arm drags straight to the back are great.
I'm also a fan of the baby bolo back take. X guard--> go behind and grab the belt--> extend your legs hooking your ankles behind theirs so they collapse back onto you--> yank them down into your lap and climb!
Another really important cue Matheus Diniz + Marcelo both give us is to keep your breastbone flat to their back once you have the seatbelt, and make sure you take a "whispering in their ear" position. If your shoulders are above theirs, you're losing them.
Active hooks are also important.
Honestly, while Danaher annoys me, I DO recommend his Back Attacks DVD.
To answer an earlier question re: Dan Covel and how he acts when under mount...

True true, I'm a terrible Marcelo student! I just have the back attacks dvd cause someone gave it to me for free, and I did like it. *shrug* but yeah, if you study gordon ryan, he's a lot like Marcelo but "lazier"/less wrestly and much more reliant on leg attacks obviously. There's a lot of cross-polination.

Little late to the party but that’s a really chit experience to have sorry brah, there’s good classes and good people out there. Every class I’ve ever been to if the guy is way more experienced than me and they’re dominating a position they’d hold the position firm and tell me what to do to escape. They’d let you out then put you back in the position and see if you actually learn from it. They’d sub me anyway but at least they tried to teach things during rolling.
