Haven't been to class in over a month. Not sure if I should continue would be awkward walking in after such a long break.
Beeling deep into a cut doesn't help either since im doing cardio almost every day and trying to get gud at running.
Depends on the gym. Some will let you rest or even tell you to go rest if they see you are totally exaughsted.
Others will push you to keep going. While you were partying I studied the Blade.

modern sports jits has no strikes so only way i can see that happening is from a hitting your head from a hard takedown or a particularly unfortunate sweep.
But i think that's really rare and literally every single academy I've trained at practices breakfalls at the start of each class.
if you are really concerned then just pull guard and sit down everytime you find yourself on your feet i guess..

Hey guys!
Been training consistently for 10 months at least 5 times a week (usually 2 hours each), about to do my first competition. Is anyone else going to the NY Open, IBJJF event? If you are, I can come watch your match. I'll also try to get mine on video and post ITT. We'll see. I don't have many expectations but I hope to have a good time, and training has been going very well lately. My attitude's a lot better than it used to be and I'm working techniques a lot more, figuring out what kind of game I enjoy playing.
Hope everyone else is good."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

I was legit so nervous I didn't sleep for about three days. But it's cool because now the girl I fought in the finals is my friend on ******** and we really bonded. There's something cool about switching from trying desperately to choke someone out to being friends. We earned each other's respect. That appeals to me tremendously.
I'm definitely going to compete more. Next up is two sub-only tournaments, one gi and one nogi. I'm a lot better at nogi when I train in the gym, so I'm looking forward to that.
Remember when I posted in here that I was sad about belt promos and felt I deserved more? Well, now people are hinting I might get my blue belt and I'm not ready! I want to compete more at white. The academy does have different considerations for promos for competitors vs. hobbyists so maybe I'll stay here--we'll see."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

good work! stay active and have a good time no matter what you do. before you know it you'll be a blue! you know its time for promotion when you are doing super well in your belt and the next level you second guess if you deserve it ; because you already respect it so you can expect it - its weird but true.

the doctor explained to me that my breathing issues are not because my cardio is bad, i actually have asthma
i have an inhaler and a disc to use for medication.
now I'm terrified about how to train. there is nothing worse than getting winded while rolling. my gym likes to turn the heater on when we work out as is. I dont want to be exposed as having an inhaler so what should i do? especially since all the heavy weights love working with me, so one round and im screwed. it's definitely in my head

Why don't you want to be "exposed" as using an inhaler? Plenty of people at my gym use them and it's nbd. The danger is you don't want to overrely on it because of the side effects.
OK, so, I have exercise-induced asthma, specifically induced by cold temperatures and low humidity. I have bronchospasms in dry air (like when I used to run on the Armory track) or outdoors in winter. In the case of exercise-induced asthma, which may be what you have, the answer is to warm up slowly and THOROUGHLY before you work out. That means don't just jump straight into rolling. Do some jogging and calisthenics first, enough to open your airway gradually. That's what I'd recommend because it's what I do and I have not had an attack at BJJ yet.
I also don't wear a mouth guard, which may be... inadvisable."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

You looked very composed and seemed to have pretty good natural instincts for a white belt. Keep competing and dont stress too much about the results . Like anything, it gets easier with experience. Might as well work out those kinks while young in the sport. Cute girl who likes jiu jitsu = win in my book. Keep it up!

reps on recharge!
When I get super excited after a long class is usually when it all kicks in. it's like hitting a wall. I'll be fine in the beginning pacing myself, even having some good rolls, then the last moments, when someone says "nah one more' "nah another one" - thats usually when I fall all the way apart. It's exercise induced for sure and when I panic it makes it worse. A mouth guard ; I have not been able to wear one because it just complicates my breathing rhythm

Thanks man! I've competed in other sports quite a lot, which helps with composure. So did having so much coaching and team support. But this was still more nerve-wracking than most races i've done. I have a sub-only gi tournament next week so any tips are appreciated there as well. The pros of gi sub-only are many more options for chokes. The cons are that I'm no good at takedowns in the gi, and escapes are a lot harder as well. :/ In nogi at least I can cover for my lack of experience by using speed and strength and just scrambling. Oh well. We'll see.

I did the sub only tournament! Here are the videos of the white belt division final round (30 minute time limit, but I took 16 to submit her... hard fight). How is everyone else's training going? I feel like few posters around here lately.
