In one way or another taking things to the extreme puts a lot of stress on the human body. R.I.P. Ed Van Amsterdam, and my condolences to his family and friends.

We all know what one of the likely causes is, but it doesnt mean that is the cause. When that young strongman died, Jesse i think, i bet everyone was quick to point out the obvious cause, when in fact it was a heart defect he was born with.

In any case whatever the reason its disrespectful to be so sarcastic about it, especially since the dude just died.

Seems to me that it would be harder for an unfit heart to pump blood to untrained muscles to support 300lbs of fat, than it would be for a fitter heart to pump blood to 300lbs of muscle that the heart itself has had to work to achieve.

Man, I keep trying to give you the benefit of the doubt since you've been back but this post is childish at best and mean spirited and disrespectful at worst.

It's the I.F - fukking - B.B. and everyone over the age of 12 knows what is going on. Why make a sarcastic remark over the death of the guy?

Why not just say "RIP and thanks for having participated in a sport I enjoy" ?

I just found mikson's post immature and quite disrespectful.

I think being a flabby 300 lbs is hard on the body and the heart for other reasons, but as far as actual work required by the heart, fat is farrr less vascular than muscle is. The heart doesn't have to work nearly as hard to pump blood through a body with higher bf % at the same weight.
You control your own destiny; some of us take that responsibility more seriously than others

    Cutting update:
    Carb cycling with carb backloading
Currently 2 carb nights a week
Losing 2-3 lbs a week, goal weight and body fat % set for November 15th arrival date. Currently on track. Plan is laid out with updates scheduled along the way, but as always subject to change based on body's responses and speed of progress

I think the diet is the most unhealthy aspect about being a professional bodybuilder. It's true that eating large quantities of meats and other foods is good for gaining weight and maintaining muscle mass, but in the end you're also getting a large share of things that is bad in excess, like sodium, saturated fats, and cholesterol. The one thing that I thought Ronnie always had going for him at his biggest was his prescriptions. There is a video floating around on YouTube of him taking RX for his liver, cholesterol, and blood pressure among other things. Unfortunately, heart disease remains the silent killer, and even bodybuilders aren't immune to it.

This case reminds me a little about Art Atwood's tragic death in 2011. He was walking around a swimming pool when he had a massive heart attack and fell in. He was only 37 years old.

Diuretics and some stimulants could be a contributing factor but solely blaming his passing on drugs is retarded at best. If that were the only cause of Death then Ronnie would have been dead a very long time ago, not to mention Ruhl, dexter, Freeman. It's a pointless argument to make because there is no evidence to substantiate claims that the majority of the drugs used can cause fatal illnesses. Being 320+lb isn't healthy for anyone but don't be stupid enough to think that the ONLY cause is attributed to drugs

It never seems to be a black guy. When I think of dead bodybuilders, plenty of white guys come to mind: Luke Wood, Art Atwood, Munzer, Paul Demayo and Scott Klein, and Mike Matarazzo almost bought it. The Arabic guys fare no better: Mohammed Benaziza, Nasser and Sonny Schmidt. Do I suffer from a selective memory or what?

It doesn't take balls to keep training, injecting, dieting, and competing. He has probably been doing that for more than half of his life. It would take balls to lay down the posing trunks, say that health is #1, and give up his old lifestyle. That would have taken balls.

RIP to the big guy, shredded and huge. Shame when people die young.

Why not just say "RIP and thanks for having participated in a sport I enjoy" ?
PERFECTLY said. RIP and condolences to his family.
