I'm a busy bee getting ready for a UPA meet on July 20th. Here is some recent lifting--bodyweight for these sessions is down to about 155 lbs., and I'm competing at 148.

A step backwards is better than a setback.
If this (insert whatever trivial thing that is upsetting me) is the worst thing to happen today, I'm going to have a great day.

Thank you much.
I'm still getting stronger, and the 165s are a million years ahead of me. I can be very good at 148 for a while, but it's going to take a long commitment to grow into the 165-lb. weight class. I'm also only 5'4", so I'd have to put on a lot of muscle to be competitive up at that weight class. The difference is just that 1400 at 148 is very rare (only six have done it in history, and four did it with wraps), whereas 1400 at 165 might not even get you in the top 10 in the U.S.
Thanks.
Well, I'm trying to do the same thing with people who are a lot stronger than me, so we're all in the same boat.
It's weird; you can say it. I know it is.Best competition lifts at 148: 512 squat (no wraps) / 347 bench / 622 deadlift. 1482 total. Former all-time world-record holder (no wraps).

Great work; I love following your stuff on YouTube. (I'm the user etwade; you've commented on some of my vids in the past I think.) I actually posted your 501 squat from the NASA meet in this forum a while back because of your strength and your highly unusual stance.
637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

I keep a log in the PL training log sub-forum, but basically, I bench on Monday, squat on Tuesday, bench on Wednesday, squat on Thursday and Friday, bench on Saturday, and deadlift on Saturday. Weekly NBLs, average RPE, and intensity range changes in relation to an upcoming meet; early in my cycle, I do more accessory work and lift variants (i.e. floor press for bench), then focus on the main movements as I get closer to a meet. My training's a lot different from what it was even six months ago though, as this is only the second time I've run a macrocycle like this.
Yeah, I watch your channel all the time, Everett. Thanks for that--hopefully I'll have a better squat than 501 logged in a couple of weeks. The strength is there; it's just a matter of putting it together in a meet now.Best competition lifts at 148: 512 squat (no wraps) / 347 bench / 622 deadlift. 1482 total. Well, when I started training, my deadlift came easy, and my squat and bench press lagged. I spent a couple of years building up those lifts, and my deadlift progress slowed to a crawl. Now, I'm training my deadlift differently, with a ton more volume, and I've modified my technique. In the past, I would pull once a week and usually do just 3-4 heavy singles with some light speed pulls; I was doing enough to maintain it, but not enough to really see much progress. Now, I'm just doing a lot more heavy deadlifting, and it's gone up a lot in the last two months. I pulled 573 at a meet in April, but I think it's gone up a lot since then, because the rep numbers are much higher now. Just to give you an idea of the progress:
Here, I pulled 500x5 off of 2.5" blocks on May 12th.
Here's 521x6, done off the floor on Sunday. Granted, it's with a deadlift bar, but I definitely feel a big difference in my pull. We'll see where it ends up.Best competition lifts at 148: 512 squat (no wraps) / 347 bench / 622 deadlift. 1482 total. Former all-time world-record holder (no wraps).
