    Parabody adjustable bench question?

Someone local is selling a parabody rack and bench. I just wanted to know if you guys knew the weight limit for the bench? I can hit 385 and am continuing to hit more. I weigh 235.

It's kind of a deal breaker if the bench can't hold me. I was kind of negotiating with the guy now lol.

good idea is to set the bench on a scale. if it weighs 50-60 pounds its probably 11 gauge, so you are probably good up to 800-1000 pounds. that seems to be the limit for 11 gauge stuff.

I have the 874 and can vouch that it is pretty heavy duty for a non commercial bench. I find it is sturdier than many of the commercial benches I have used. As far as weight limit, I would agree with the 800-1000 but would google it as I'm sure it has been posted somewhere.

I have been googling forever! I found manuals no weight limit, been searching all over message boards nobody can confirm. I called lifefitness and they told me 300lbs max for the 874. how can that be true but that is what they told me.

Really don't want it collapsing with me on it.

It is the 874 by the way!

No way the limit is 300. Buy it and you will see.

I routinely was benching 250 and up on mine at around 200lbs.

Tue 874 sold new for 250-300 and qas american made

Fwiw I sold mine for $80

I agree that 300 is way low. Perhaps ironwill can weigh in on this. 300 is usually the crap weider type benches.

I didn't reply because I couldn't find a spec on the bench. I still have a copy of the last Parabody catalog to be published before Lifefitness pulled the plug, and it doesn't list a weight capacity for the 874.

I hesitate to post an opinion when OP is looking for facts, but mine (my opinion, based on owning/using my 874 for ~8 years now) is that the capacity of that bench is a heck of a lot more than most humans can lift.

8 years I will trust your opinion

how much do you define "most humans can lift" if you don't mind?

I forsee putting probably a 650-670lb total load on it within the next 4 months of owning it but NEVER above 700lbs.

I found a website in russian that had the weight of the actual bench and it was like 25kgs. I know the person a few posts above mentioned that 60lb benches usually hold 800-1000

The setup is everything I want just literally the bench is the only thing holding me back from purchasing.

If I can't make the deal I'll just go with an ironmaster or something and a half rack. I'd rather not but. I can't take working out at a club anymore lol.

I've had the same bench and it will support more than most people will use in a home gym, it's as solid as my BodySolid gfid 71 that 's rated for 1000 lbs., the Ironmaster will be similiar.

I would just buy the whole thing and sell the bench if you don't like it. I can tell you that everything about the bench impressed me-- especially the overall build quality and the upholstery. I don't think you'll have a problem selling the bench itself for 80-100 bucks (if not more) depending on the condition of it now.

Slightly off topic, but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the height of the bench. At 5'10 I've heard that benches over 19' can sometimes be uncomfortable for benching, and one is ending on ebay tomorrow and it seems to be going cheap! Thanks

im the same height and would never consider getting a bench higher than 18". 17" is about perfect for me

Yeah I've heard that, but it's so hard to find a good low bench without spending a lot on commercial benches. Also with the lack of choice on used equipment in the uk, I figured I'd make do with anything below 19'. This parabody is a good deal, and it's rare to find cheap high quality, so I was hoping someone would tell me the bench is less than 19'!

Also, the bench had such good reviews on here, even by people who weren't that tall. I wasn't sure if they had just adapted to the height or it actually is low-ish.
