For centuries honey had been known as nature's medicine. Both the Greeks and Egyptians used honey as one of their main healing tools, with the famous Greek thinker Aristotle saying that pale honey was "good as a salve for sore eyes and wounds". But despite its long history within the healing community honey is now seen as something of a fad, another money making scam from the natural health industry that actually has no medical benefits at all. But there are new studies being conducted that could see us all adding honey not to our toast, but back into our medicine cabinets.
Many of these studies have been aimed at one particular type of honey, Manuka Honey. Each beehive will produce a different type of honey depending on which flower the bees get their nectar from. Manuka honey comes from the flower of the Manuka bush that is native to New Zealand and has been found to have amazing anti bacterial properties. Bandages are now being made that contain traces of Manuka honey; this helps stop the growth of harmful bacteria even when wounds are badly infected. The Manuka honey's amazing healing properties come from a chemical reaction that takes place while the honey is being made. This reaction produces hydrogen peroxide, which is a well known antiseptic. "Since Manuka Honey is a natural ingredient, it has been found to have no negative side effects when used for medical purposes," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International.
While Manuka honey aids healing another type of honey has been found to ease children's colds, sooth their chesty coughs and promote sleep. The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine recently published the results of a study that seemed to confirm this fact. The study included 105 children between the ages of 2 and 18. In a partially blind test some of the children were given buckwheat honey, some honey flavored syrup and some nothing. Short surveys filled in by the children's parents showed that when their children were given just a little bit of honey before bed they slept better and coughed less than when they took the syrup or nothing at all. "This is the first time honey has been actually proven as a treatment," says lead study author Dr. Ian Paul, a researcher at Penn State College of Medicine.
Research in to the healing properties of honey is ongoing, but with many bacteria now becoming immune to prescribed antibiotics honey is being seen by many as an amazing natural alternative.Let me give you a bit of warning: just because you get very good at your training it should not go to your head that you are an expert.

Honey Vs Sugar. What are their differences?
Both sweeteners contain glucose and fructose. However, for sugar, in the process of manufacturing, the organic acids, protein, nitrogen elements, enzymes and vitamins in the sugar cane are destroyed, whereas honey, a natural sweetener, subjects only to minimal heating. Also, honey has certain beneficial antioxidant and antimicrobial properties which are not present in table sugar.
Here are three honey nutrition facts that will make you feel good about eating honey:
One:
One tablespoon of table sugar or sucrose contains 46 calories, while one tablespoon of natural sweetener honey has 64 calories. Though honey may have more calories, we actually need to use less of it since it is sweeter than table sugar. As a result, you may in fact consume even less amount of calories that you would with sugar. And in the long run even though honey is more expensive, it may be more economical than table sugar. I was taken aback when I first found out how much table sugar I was consuming when I take a can of coke -- 10 teaspoons, and a 50g chocolate bar -- 7 teaspoons!
Two:
Table sugar is sucrose, which is made up of two molecules bonded together. When we eat table sugar, our stomach has to use its own enzymes to separate the molecules apart before we can use the sugar's energy. Honey is quite different. The bees have added a special enzyme to the nectar that divides the sucrose into glucose and fructose -- two simple sugars for our bodies can absorb directly.
Hence, honey vs sugar, honey has a healthier Glycemic Index (GI) which measures the negative impact of a given food on the blood-glucose level. The lower the GI rating, the slower the absorption and infusion of sugars into the bloodstream and hence a more gradual and healthier digestion process.
Three:
Unlike honey, table sugar lacks minerals and vitamins (hence it's been often called empty calories), they draw upon the body's nutrients to be metabolized into the system. When these nutrients are all used up, metabolizing of undesirable cholesterol and fatty acid is impeded, contributing to higher cholesterol and promoting obesity due to higher fatty acid on the organs and tissues. That is why it is not uncommon for fat people to suffer from malnutrition and many other health related problems. So the message is, honey vs sugar, if you are watching your weight, honey will be a smarter choice than sugar. Besides the differences in nutrition, I feel sugar can never compete with honey in taste. Though both are sweet, honey has such a unique flavour that can be very useful and superior in many foods and beverages. Three Key Valuable Honey Properties:
1. Honey is Hygroscopic
Honey has a hygroscopic nature, which means when exposed to air, it naturally absorbs moisture in from the air.
