"In line with their hypotheses, the data revealed that wealthy men with high upper-body strength were less likely to support redistribution, while less wealthy men of the same strength were more likely to support it."

Was only a matter of time before the truth came out, weak liberal beta *******s really ARE weak liberal beta *******s, and modern psychology says so.
Of course, this applies to white people only.

"‘In all three countries, physically strong males consistently pursue the self-interested position on redistribution.’
Men with low upper-body strength, on the other hand, were less likely to support their own self-interest.
Wealthy men of this group showed less resistance to redistribution, while poor men showed less support.
Professor Petersen said: ‘Our results demonstrate that physically weak males are more reluctant than physically strong males to assert their self-interest - just as if disputes over national policies were a matter of direct physical confrontation among small numbers of individuals, rather than abstract electoral dynamics among millions.’"
You're confusing the psychological aspects of this study with a simple statement of the fact that poor people are more like to support redistribution, regardless of strength levels.

He was just saying that being stronger =/= being right-wing because that is not what the research found. Since redistribution is more appealing to lower classes, high strength and low socio-economic status men will actually be more left-wing per the study's predictions. You can see most people ITT don't actually know the link found - which is understandable because the news article title is factually wrong.
E: By the way, bicep size alone was used as the measuring variable for strength. This means non-lifting fatties with rolling arms would be rated very highly on the strength scale.Go Canucks Go!

Except poor immigrants tend to be more conservative than the average citizen of the country they move to. That is because immigrants have aspirations to become successful and don't want the government taking what they earn.
Left wingers probably sit around complaining that all wealth is theft and that anybody with money must have exploited someone to get that wealth, or that life is unequal because some people get a better start in life than others. So it doesn't matter if they government takes their money from them. They didn't deserve it in the first place.

doesn't it say guys with high upper body strength but were poor were more likely to support redistribution? How exactly does that fit into the equation

Being strong does not necessarily = being right winged, but the quote I posted clearly states that stronger men are more resistant to the liberal ideology of wealth distribution.
How is the title wrong? The study still demonstrated a clear division between strong and weak men in terms of political views. Yes, the study also says that strong poor men still favor redistribution, but that's because the connection between strength and the evolutionary traits associated with right-winged ideology is overridden by the fact that they're poor and would like to see wealth redistributed.
This does NOT undermine the correlation between being physically weak and being left-winged, it's just saying that yes, even poor strong men like redistribution just like weak men.
Notice how it says "physically weak males are more reluctant than physically strong males to assert their self-interest" (resistance to redistribution, in this case).
It does NOT say "phyiscally weak poor males are [...]"
tl;dr Being liberal or right-winged is not all about money, contrary to what pat19 posted.
Because being poor is still correlated with support of redistribution. You're missing the point here. Reread the article carefully.
physical strong = more likely to be right-winged
being poor = more likely to support redistribution
Thus, wealth may affect a man's opinion of distribution but it does not change the fact physically weak men are correlated with liberalism while physically strong men are correlated with right-winged beliefs.Last edited by MrLL; 05-16-2013 at 07:33 AM.

makes sense because strong people had only themselves to push it past their limits. that's something the government can't do on everyone
