    Pain in my ass (literally)

So for like the last 5 months i've had this sharp pain between my glute and hamstring on my right leg whenever i do backsquats or deadlifts. It's gotten to the point where whenever i try to do these lifts almost all the weight shifts to my left side and has made lower body training almost impossible. Anyone have experience with this? or witty jokes about having ass pain? thanks

Agreed. Also, how's the range of motion in your right ankle as compared to your left?

Also what should i do to strengthen the hamstring if that is the issue? Obviously the pain makes big lifts difficult, what could i do to graduate back to them? Thank yo

I really don't think it's the hamstring. I thought the same thing when I had the sciatica ( most likely what you have ). Lay off squats and deadlifts for like 2 weeks and see how you feel. If it's still bad then go longer and stretch it. There's tons of youtube videos on how to stretch it

The reason I ask about ankle ROM is that lack of ROM in the ankle can present itself as pain along the posterior chain during squats. The spot you're referring to is reasonably common. I suppose it is due to tight fascia.

Perhaps you should stop stretching your angus so much and your glute will start firing again

A gentle stretching before workout is essential for preventing injuries. You must focus on your posture during exercise, that will help you to find the actual reason for this pain.

Whew. Glad you chimed in because OP must be in a terrible spot. Having to live with this for 7 years until you bestowed your stellar advice on him. You are the second coming for sure!
