    Corona + World Markets

What is your take on the effect this virus will have on markets. I'm considering pulling my investments out of stocks until this blows over fearing market collapse or at least fall due to it.

    Reps till I'm out.

It's going to hit China's economy/GDP hard which will slow down the consumerism in other countries which will hurt their GDP but help with things like savings and domestic production. If it goes on too much longer it'll seriously disrupt some supply chains which will have a drag on global manufacturing. I put everything on the sidelines about a week ago, waiting to see how this shakes out. We're overdue for a 10% correction anyway.

Avoid companies like Starbucks- they have 1,000+ locations in China I do believe which are gonna get smashed by the fact people aren't allowed outside their houses in a chunk of the country.

Avoid adding more from companies like Apple where they were making stuff as production has been halted till Feb 10th and could have an extended production delay. IMO, wouldn't sell what you already own though.

Otherwise, at this point, US equities should be fine. Main thing with China isn't the deaths or the ill its mainly the fact 50+ million are basically stuck at home not working and not buying stuff.

Right now my 401k is in a managed target date fund so I'm not picking individual stocks. I can change it to something that's specifically domestic markets though or move it out of stocks completely into like a money market fund.

Gonna have a HUGE impact on Chinas markets/economy, that is a fact. Therefore, if you have any stocks whose companies are firmly tied to chinese suppliers etc I would be very very concerned srs. It might just end up being worth it to pull out of the market for a while if that's the case

What I have been slowly doing is no longer buying the dated funds for like 2060 or whatever and buying what essentially amounts to a MM fund. That way things I already own continue to appreciate with any market gains, but further $$$ I add won't be at risk if there is a 10 or 20% correction. I haven't 100% stopped buying equities I think I've just cut back like 50% thus far and might cut back another 20-25% if we get further ATHs

I've just been rolling mine into the newest date fund whenever one comes out to keep the mix as risky as possible because of the movement we've see since the recession.

So you've basically halted putting money in your portion in the date fund and have been making new contributions into a different fund?

Scaled back- haven't halted. Just shifting the balance of my 401k portfolio from 100% equities to having roughly 15-20% as "cash on hand". Obviously moving that way slowly since I didn't sell any of my target funds and have reduced target fund allocation by 50%

You know, I was just thinking about this. Was gonna max out my roth for 2019 and put it into a date fund. Should I do it while it's dropping or wait for it to drop even further (possibly)? I know there's no timing the market, but still.
