Locally the phones sell for more and wouldn't have to pay ebay fees so I am looking to sell there.

And pick a niche, what area do you live in & what do people need for the spring or summer? Phone accessories like waterproof cases & tempered glass can all be profitable but not sure how these are selling right now. I'm new to this too but read through most the thread and got some pretty good ideas.

I've thought about trying to sell to the local market around me thru kijiji & craigslist. I live in a city of over a million people so there is tons of demand for little things. I might pull the trigger on some fake brand name items like ray bans. $10 a pair & they look pretty good and come a case. I could flip these on kijiji for at least $20-30 and I would just tell people that they are just clones if they bother asking. Wouldn't do this on eBay cause of their policies but on kijiji you can sell whatever you want.
Where do you buy screens? I work in IT and some workers are rough with their iphone 6 and have cracked screens, we just throw out the phones but im sure I could replace the screens and they should be working just fine.

AliExpress or Alibaba are likely going to be the best choice. The shipping will take a month, but you'll save from cutting out middlemen.

I've pretty much stopped my business because of the $1.50 listing fee. It's ridiculous.

Yes the first 40 listings of the month are free but that's nothing. If you want to make money from Ebay you need to list hundreds of items at least.

Plus if your item doesn't sell in 1 month then you have to fork out another $1.50 just to list it again.

I'm now forced to keep less than 40 items in my store and try and sell them all by next month.

What a shame and what a rip off it is to spend $1.50 just to put the item up for 1 month.

If it takes longer than 30 days to sell an item then you are selling the wrong items.

Yes eBay Customer service sucks mainly because they give zero phuks about freezing Money and giving it to scammers but with the right items the pros outweigh the cons.

Rip to the eBay but and flip thread...literaly changed my life, I'm gonna miss you.

I understand a lot of you guys are trying to substitute day job level of income by selling. Because of this I hear a lot of negativity towards buying from thrift/auctions/garage sales etc.......and sellin

However, for someone who is just trying to NET an extra 400-500/month would it be very capable and realistic to do so going out and finding stuff cheap (physically & locally) and re-selling online?

I would consider 400-500/month easy as long as you are willing to put the work in.
It is "Work" but overtime like with anything else it becomes easier.
Where's the negativity about sourcing from those places?
You can do very well by just hitting those three places. The money might not be as steady but it's there to be made and fairly easy if you put the "Work" in.

I was selling used Ghurka products, leather wallets and bags, very high end Made in USA stuff that business people like. Its hard to find good deals on them because every is looking to make money by selling them. I think I sold 12-15 items and only made a $200 profit. Wasnt worth the hassle and the money being tied up for 2 months for $200.

    I quit lol.

Do you guys think taking about 2-3 pictures of each item of clothing be enough?

I take about 10 photos for each item and it's really time consuming.

Seems tough to make money on ebay. The fees among other things. For many it just not worth the time and effort.

How do you handle buyer who tries to force a return due to buyer's remorse by accusing you of selling "fake" and hit you with a case?

Just accept the return. It's not worth wasting time fighting a case that you're 99% likely to lose. Instead focus on activities that produce a positive cash flow.

Always evaluate what you're selling in terms of how likely you are to experience problems with buyers. Some things just aren't worth the money.

Actually eBay sided with me this time around. The buyer shot himself in the foot by arguing that the item should be something that wasn't mentioned at all in the listing. Now he said he'll take it to his credit card company and does PP chargeback. Is it going to be an uphill battle for him since he lost round 1?

For $750+ item, how do you get the buyer to sign for it (home address) without causing inconvenience as most people won't be home during regular business hours? Is it risky to let the buyer customize the delivery, e.g. re-route the FedEx package for pick up? Do eBay / PP allow pickup from FedEx (vs PP confirmed address) in the event of INR claim by scammer?

Nope. If he does a chargeback with his CC, all you need to do is supply Paypal with the tracking number when they open a case up. If you can provide the tracking number and the buyer is verified (99% are), you will be protected.

How about SNAD CC chargeback? I think that's what he'll go for. Will I get protected by PP since he lost once already with eBay?

It seems like there are a lot of PITA buyers for me lately. This asshat buyer wants to return a clothing item because it fits too tight for him and there's no way he'll keep it. He said he knows I specifically said no return as my return policy but he'll escalate into a claim and put up a fight if I say no. Do I have a strong case here?

    So I just bought 2 iphone 6 16gbs for 310gbp.

Bidvoy (http://uk.bidvoy.net/%22iPhone_6%22_-Plus_16gb/9355) says they average 220 each.

So if I sell each iphone for 200, take away 20 for ebay fees, then another 5 for shipping, that leaves 175. That hopefully will give me 40 profit.

    Am I doing it right?

Edit: Something I've noticed - Ebay take 10% price as their fee, but amazon only takes 75p/ 0.75USD. So why would anyone sell on ebay when they could sell on amazon instead?

Amazon takes anywhere from 8 - 25% depending on category of the item plus a $0.99 fee . On top of that if you do FBA its even more out of your pocket. to make a long story short, Amazon is not cheaper then Ebay for the most part

Im not claiming to be an expert but I have been selling for a couple years now, I am firmly against selling "trendy" items like iphones and ipads, etc. Thats alot of money up front out of your own pocket for only $40 profit per item. In my opinion, the whole key is trying to get a decent amount of inventory, for as cheap as possible, in categories that are popular and have high sell through rates. Focus on things that are small , cheap to ship and have little to no chance of being defective or broken

For all you dudes trying to figure out what to sell on e-bay, i recommend doing a free trial of Terapeak, and using their tools to figure out what type of products / categories to focus on

PP just informed me I lost the PP CC chargeback case. Now my PP balance is negative and without the item. What recourse do I have? This is BS.

Bogus SNAD claim to force a return due to buyer's remorse. The item I sold was brand new with tag. He lost the eBay case and escalated to CC chargeback. The CC bought his BS story and sided with him.

PP site said the case was "closed" but when I talked to CSR she told me to sit tight as they are still working on it in the background and can take up to 85 days. Is it meant to be like this or the CSR was just giving me false hope?
