I was curious, after recently pulling both my groin and hamstring, to pick up a pair of compression shorts but after trying them on in store my bulging quads and glutes look ridiculous. I can't recall men training with a pair in my gym so I was wondering if you're supposed to wear normal shorts over them?? What's the proper gym etiquette?

Compression shorts do absolutely nothing for your hamstring or quads. You have to get a specialized and expensive type of compression shorts to actually support your hamstrings. But as for normal spandex compression shorts that you see people wearing, they are more so for comfort. It is better to wear those in place of underwear so that you have more flexibility and you don't get wedgies or any type of limited movement that you can get from boxers and briefs. The stuff you are looking for are going to cost you a pretty penny and they will actually restrict your movement, but of course support your hamstring to an extent. A good example of what you are looking for are:

OP, who cares what they think? Use it to recover, I'm hoping it helps me.
I've seen overpriced Under Armour Camo ColdGear® Compression Leggings & cheaper brands. I'm 6 ft 165 looking to get past the winter and workout some days in them, think I'm a medium? Medical grade is 20-30 mm/Hg is this possible with shirts and tights?
The FDA regulates compression over 40mmHg.

I’m a guy, 6’2, 200 pounds, early 40s. Married with kids, living in suburbia. Can I pick your brain for a minute?
If I go to the grocery store (or anywhere public) at midnight, can I wear a fleece hoodie pullover, white low-cut ankle socks, running shoes and long black Nike, Under Armour or 2XU compression pants…and NOTHING ELSE (including underwear)?
Do you think I should toss on a pair of fleece running shorts over the leggings? What color shorts? Does color matter?
And instead of white low-cut ankle socks, can I wear thick white slouch socks with the leggings tucked in (socks in size to fit)?
How about this clothing combination for an overnight errand: a T-shirt, white low-cut ankle socks, running shoes and fleece shorts over three-quarter-length black tights (Nike, UA, Reebok, etc.). No underwear.
Do men's three-quarter-length sports tights too closely resemble women's capri yoga pants when worn without athletic shorts?
If any of this gear is unacceptable for the grocery store, what about a neighborhood jog at 5:30 in the morning? Or the gym?
Have you ever seen a guy wearing compression tights in public? Where? Was he discreet? Did others notice?
Let’s assume all the clothing described here was made for men by reputable, family-trusted designers and sold in your local mall big box sporting goods store. No crossdressers, no gay porn, no pantyhose, no nylon, lycra or spandex fetish.
Full disclosure: In the past year, I’ve replaced all my underwear with compression shorts. Someday all men will discover what I’ve learned and do the same. Sure, all your drawers will cost $25-$30 a pop, but the comfort makes ’em worth every penny!
Also: I’m not trying to show off my bulge (not much to show anyway).

Sprinter Chick, there are two weights of compression shorts, the lighter ones (which are normally what's available for guys) should be worn under something. The heavier weight fabric ones are what's used as compression shorts (or leggings for colder weather) in track where you don't wear them under another garment. These are similar (in fabric weight) to typical tight fitting shorts worn by women working out (i.e. volleyball shorts). My son is a thrower and he's recently switched to just rocking the heavier weight track compression bottoms instead of compression shorts under normal shorts.

I wear compression pants everyday I go to the gym. Sometimes with shorts sometimes with out. I always wear a long shirt and hoodie that covers everything. I have read that people are saying your gay if you wear them with out short. Who cares wear what you want. I am happily married. I wear them cause it's more comfortable in my option while working out.
