He's using one of these
It can inflate your numbers a good bit, but I'm still shocked he's able to go that high. If he's going 565 on there I'm sure he has a legit 4 plate squat.

Dudes doing a safety squat with the handlebars attached on the rack. Kansas State used to do these exclusively from say 1995-2005. KSU guys would max out anywhere between 700-1000lbs. In comparison Darren Sproles could do around 818 lbs. I know a local guy who's 5 8 170 & can rep what AJ is doing for 10. If you've never tried this style of squat it feels very different. Really forces you to have a strong core, but on flipside it's easier to achieve depth & possibly safer for athletic purposes.

It's obvious that comparing our avatars my forearm is bigger than your bicep. Do I really need to do a webcam bicep flex shot to appease you? No manlet. I don't.

Have you used a safety squat bar before? It makes it harder. Higher bar position and the weight really tries to throw you forward. Not sure why he's holding onto the rack though instead of the handles. You are supposed to hold on the handles and push them up when you come out of the hole to send the center of gravity forward which tries to throw you forward. That way you really train the core and mid back to stay tight and finish the lift.
I've squatted 463 in competition but can only do like in the 300s with a safety squat bar.1372 @ 205

Wat?
Go read that post again. Dude posted a pic of a safety squat bar and says IT inflates numbers. I was merely saying IT doesn't inflate numbers. It makes it harder. And I mentioned that I don't know why he is holding onto the rack cuz he is supposed to hold onto the handles and push them up out of the hole. So you are basically arguing that you are agreeing with me.1372 @ 205

the ones we used it high school had the handles on the rack in front of you, not on the bars themselve
this is so you can keep your chest up and back straight, if not, the position of the weights and bar would push your back forward and use way more back to the point of dangerous
i would think mccarron is using the same thing i used in high school, which requires holding on, as he is holding on
when you hold on, you can incorporate your upper body, which inflates squats #s
seems like we might be debating 2 different pieces of equipmentDallas Cowboys

I'm discussing the video that was posted and the pic that was later posted. I don't know what equipment you are discussing. Is the bar attached to the rack in what you are saying? Like a smith machine with a pu$$y pad? I don't understand how the handles can be on the rack instead of on the bar. The video looks like a safety squat bar just like the pic that was posted. My gym has one and I've used it before and it does what you are saying, throw you forward but it is not dangerous. Many powerlifters use it all the time to learn how to stay upright and not round their back. So it actually teaches you how to squat more safely. In that video, it just looks like he held onto the vertical beams of the rack, not handles.

vid still up? I'm not seeing it
No, free bar where the weight is out in front, comes with handles that go into the rack holes, grab handles, keep back straight, squat
In hs, we were repping 4-5 plates even though my max free squat was 440
Either way, you hold onto the rack/handles on a rack, your going to be able to move more weightDallas Cowboys

So it sounds like 2 different pieces of equipment. Like you could use the safety squat bar without the rack handles. And you can use the rack handles without the safety squat bar. So, once again, the safety squat bar doesn't inflate numbers, it deflates them. Either way, the post I quoted wasn't talking about handles only a safety squat bar, which you're going to be able to move less weight.
