    potential?

Hello all I'm very new to working out its only my second week. However powerlifting is something I'm interested in trying, but I have no idea how much I would have to improve to be competitive. Or if I even have the potential to be competitive. I'm 6 foot even and weigh 155. My Max deadlift is 255 which I did on my second time dead lifting. My Max bench is 155 and my squat I have no idea but its probably pretty low. So how much do I need to improve to be competitive? Also do I have any potential to be pretty good in the 148 class? Thanks

Youve got tons of potential since you're so young. However, at 6' 155lbs, you got a lot of work ahead of you. Just eat a metric sh** ton of food every day and keep lifting heavy. You'll make tons of progress if you go hard every time you train.

If you went to a local meet and squatted 55 lbs, benched 55 lbs, and deadlifted 55 lbs you would have a high probability of getting a 1st place medal. (srs)

Yea lol I eat a ton but I have such a fast metabolism its hard to gain weight. But how could I win if I only did 55 on each lift? What kind of numbers should I be shooting for to have a decent chance?

Just do it man. I'm putting up small lifts as well and am competing in 3 this year alone for my first year. Everybody in here will tell you to just compete, (I know this because I asked something similar lol). Compete, train, compete, train. And if its hard for you to gain weight then just eat more. It's harder for people like me, who gain weight so damn easy it's DAMN hard to not over do it. You just have to eat everything in sight.

Difference between your fast metabolism and someone's slow metabolism is only a couple hundred calories. Eat a banana and boom you are the same as everyone else. You would win by only doing 55 on each lift because you would be in an obscure weight, age, division where you would be competing against nobody else. You should be shooting for 55/55/55 for a 165 lbs total, anything above that is gravy.

Yup. Powerlifting is a small sport where they keep adding more and more divisions so everyone can go home a winner. I've lifted in 8 meets and I've won every single time because there has been no one else who showed up every single time

YOU NEED TO GAIN WEIGHT! I need to gain weight and I am 165 5'8 (of course I don't listen to people when they tell me this, so I don't blame you if you don't either). However, you would be in the 165 class at that weight, which is the class I am in. I am far from being a great lifter, but my lifts are in the signature below. I have went up against a guy benching 375 and deadlifting 515 against me. I have also won a competition. So, it just depends on who shows up. Just work hard.
    PR's: 365 | 280 | 500 = 1145 lbs

You will never be competitive in any serious sense of the term in the 148 class at 6'. No, you have no idea what "eating a ton" means. Here is what I ate yesterday:

1 plain bagel, 2 tbs of honey, 4 tbs of PB, 2 scoops of whey (~900 calories)

1 club sandwich, 2 scoops of whey (~800 calories)

1 double quarter pounder with cheese, 2 scoops of whey (~1100 calories)

2 scoops of monster milk, 1 fiber+ granola bar (~450 calories)

2 scoops of whey plus 24 oz of gatorade (~450 calories)

4 oz chicken, 4 baby potatoes, half a plate of green vegetables. (not sure, few hundred more)

That's ~4,000 calories. That is nothing special for someone lifting hard 6x/week and trying to gain strength as fast as possible.
