Completely forgot to update this thread. Or maybe I did idk lol. But:

After years of working full time, school full time and NEVERRRRR sleeping, I graduated this past December with a 3.7 GPA. Could have had a 4.0 but some minor minor mistakes kinda F’d me this past year.

If y’all need any motivation I’ll say this. I’m so fukkkng happy to be done with school. Some say it’s just a peice of paper but the hardwork that goes into it means so much. I love being able to click “college degree” when filling out applications now huehuehuehue. I changed my major SEVEN TIMES brahs. I’m done forever tho.

Weirdly enough: I’ll probably miss it a little.

KEEP GRINDING YOU BUMS! It’s worth it

Edit: I wouldn’t wish working 6pm-6am then class all day to my worst enemy. Seriously have no idea how I survived.

^thats tough brah. Congrats tho. I need the to form my mentality to grind like that. I kept using my full time job as an excuse to just be lazy once I got home.

Back up in here. Took about 2 semesters off due to work.

Got a new internship that is super flexible. Got accepted to my transfer school so I’m grinding out these classes. Finding myself studying more than I ever have before. Feels like no free time. My goal is to utilize all my free time studying whatever I can.

My internship is lit bc right now I’m studying Python n I can do it from home sometimes. Anyone else find Python syntax harder than Java/C++? No opening/closing brackets throw me off

    Couple questions

1.) What's the best way to take notes or retain information from a text book? Some of the chapters are so long there's no way I can remember all of it. Sometimes I feel like there's no difference in reading a chapter versus not reading a chapter. Either way I don't recall much from it. Just in one ear and out the other

2.) Best way to study for a test/exam? I feel like just reading over notes 100x doesn't cut it for me. Is there a better alternative?

    1. Look for the "core" or the "headline". Find the summary section of the chapter - if something looks interesting or that you don't know what the abbreviation or model is then you go back into the chapter and see what it is.

    2. Make quiz/questions based on your notes/chapters/lecture slides etc. The retrieval of information is what makes you remember things more since you are using the neural paths more thus solidifying them.

Congratulations brah! Now off to get that 10k/day right?

Doing the same thing right now, work from home/school/train on Mon, Wed, Fri, at the office other days. Almost wish I stuck with school instead of going into workforce halfway through, probably make a lot more money over the same time span and have infinitely less stress.

But it's always reassuring to see someone that's been there and came out on top, so thanks.

Hey guys, I’m going to medical school this fall and am need of a new laptop. I’m also probably going to get an iPad for note taking.

Should I get a “business” laptop like a ThinkPad or get a gaming laptop? Srs

Get an iPad with an iPencil and the app "LiquidText" (costs 20-30 bucks, but it's worth it absolutely. Cut my note taking time considerably down with their ability to summarize all highlights in documents to a single document with all highlights + their reference.)

As for a laptop, the most important thing is the keyboard if you are going to be writing stuff on it. If not just buy a laptop that fulfills your other needs and buy a good keyboard you can connect when writing.
I myself used a combination of my gaming machine with 3 monitors (very useful when writing the thesis) and my Dell Latitude laptop with a very solid keyboard.

    neither, IMO

if you're going to use an iPad primarily...macbook will likely be better to pair with it. Most gaming laptops are large/unwieldly and lacking in battery

Not really important. You'll probably rarely use your laptop, unless you're going to sit in the school library or a coffee shop to study. And it doesn't take much of a laptop to read PowerPoint slides.

Get a cheap ass laptop to work on in the library, take notes or when you're away.
Get a gaming rig when to use when at home.
A gaming rig is a lot cheaper and more powerful then a gaming laptop and by getting both, you'll keep leisure time and studying seperate. Works out great for me tbh

Decided to not drop out of school and take a full time position at my job. Would've been a good path but they encouraged me to take the even greater path of obtaining my degree. They gave me a raise to encourage me to do so rather than a full time package.

Reaching the end of the first week for my online classes. Do you brahs actually read through the textbook when it is assigned? Speaking for G.E. classes because this chit is so boring. I can't fathom doing this every week but I have to complete a 600 word essay each week, so I hope I'll get used to it

I am ****ing pinging and over the moon.

**** yes - this is a big deal to me because it means I can transfer to engineering and begin that journey of my life.
Study hard lads and anything is possible.

Been burning money and wasting time trying to study mathematics in Uni.
Don't want to quit because of sunken cost feeling, but I can't seem to stop procrastinating. Every damn semester don't start until 4weeks in.
In on this for motivation. Not to late to turn life around.

Forgot about this thread damn. Tons of students switch their disciplines halfway through when they realize another option might suit them better. I don't think you'd go wrong switching to another STEM-oriented path if you're up for it.
For what it's worth, my former research advisor/professor was mathematics undergrad and chemical engineering PhD with focus on molecular modeling. His background is extremely useful in mathematically interpreting the different forces and phenomena that are associated with molecules at the microscopic scale and translating them into a simulation. I could never fully wrap my head around all of that stuff.

All depends on what you want to do with your education. Could easily fill a role in security, IDS, IT, software, etc. Or go into a STEM-oriented role in more specialized disciplines like IP law.

    thanks for your reply.
I originally wanted to be able to do software engineering/compsci/cybersec oriented IT when I decided to go maths. I was also always bad at it growing up so I thought it'd be cool to get better at it. In theory I thought maths was damn awesome.
I think I'm burnt out on studying in general. They have these same classes in all interesting STEM fields so they're inevitable. My problem is attitude. I get stuck on something I didn't know how to do and from then on it's procrastination city. Pure IT courses aren't any better with me either. I remember last year I procrastinated on an online cybersec program until the last 3 days.
Currently procrastinating on a networks uni course because they had probability calculus in the first assignment...
I don't want to consider non-STEM paths because I could just read a book and get the same knowledge. None of the possible diplomas you get from arts degrees interest me.
Man I don't even know anymore. I'm a legit retard-tier money waster. I could buy my car again with the money I paid for failed courses.

Acquire How to Become a Straight-A Student by Cal Newport, understand that successful students are typically lazy.
Refine your laziness into doing stuff 80% in 20% time following the 80/20 principle.
The 80% will be better than what you're doing now, you're neither relaxing nor studying.

Decide when you study you study and when you relax you actually relax. That is the key component.
Even if you study 20 minutes it'll often be enough to be the catalyst.
You could even run the pomodoro technique...

Cal Newport book acquired(thank you libgen) hopefully it doesn't just hammer the same things your usual self help articles do.
Learning Infinitesimal Calc as someone who couldn't even handle HS maths would require more than 20% of my study time ahah, but yeah gotcha. I know the Pomodoro thing and other stuff too.
I'm too stupid to stop paying for classes I will fail, so I might as well keep trying. Like actually trying and not just saying I'm a student. Man I'm lucky people even let me try study Uni course without the appropriate GPA and such(perks of open Uni).
    Thanks for encouragement.
