    sleep aid causing itching

I am curious if anyone has ever had similar issues while in bed. I have had a very hard time sleeping for as long as i remember, I have tried taking all kinds of sleep aids such as melatonin, tried benadryl, nyquil. I have seen doctors who have given me ambien.

I find when i take these sleep aids, I get tired and ready for bed, but then as I feel myself nodding off I become itchy.

It could be a connection to the caffeine use I once had, but I have not had caffeine in 10 days and still have the itchiness when ready for sleep. It keeps me awake as well. I cannot sleep because of it.

The caffeine use was from pre works outs, even if I took them at 11 am by 1 am I still had the itchiness going on when ready for sleep.

I have had insomnia since I was about 7, but am not sure if the itchiness has anything to do with it.

It is not just my bed either lol so it isn't bed bugs, it happens essentially where I sleep, friends house, shore house, girlfriends house

Sounds like both the insomnia + itching are stress related. Do you have high levels of stress? Does it happen most often when the weather is cold? Family history of psoriasis?

No history of psoriasis in the family. It's all year long, not just the winter.

I might have stress levels, but I do not quite know what causes it, and for that I do not know if it is high stress or not.

I know the caffeine use gave me bad anxiety, but being without the caffeine, I also feel like gives me anxiety

    I have seen a Dr.

They told me I have insomnia, ruled out sleep apnea. I saw a sleep specialist, and they just suggested ambien, and that I should try using sleep techniques.

As someone who deals with high anxiety, I would highly suggest speaking to your doctor about your stress/anxiety levels. I'd bet $50 a moderate strength SSRI before bed would not only allow you to sleep, but remove the itches as well.

Do some google searches about insomnia/itching, and you'll see it's not uncommon and the most common theory is all about anxiety.

Sounds similar to me, i would itch in bed, wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep, no matter how many times id wash the sheets. I switched sheets to ones that made me feel better. My bed not even a year old either, memory foam I got a few months back along with new platform bed frame.

What I did was changed my body soap to oatmeal hypoallergenic, shampoo to dandruff treatment (didnt realize I had dandruff til a year ago, drove me nuts, felt like things crawling on my head), and try not to take any pre-workout supplements at night (if anything, reduce the amount) , sometimes they would leave me wired. I too am also taking melatonin.

Its not a problem for me anymore. Good luck! It drove me crazy!

It's probably caused by anxiety or stress. Do you feel safe at home? Going through something tuff? A lot his can be causes or factors of loss of sleep

So I was on Vyvanse and I took sleep aid at night because the medicine interfered with my sleep. Well last march I was itching terribly, to the point I would make myself bleed. I caused sores on myself. I thought I had scabies (gross I know).. Long story short I went months going to doctors trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally they think its my ADD medication. I am now on new medication but starting to itch again. But I'm beginning to wonder if its from the sleep aid? Did you ever figure out if that's what was causing your itching?
