    Fat is lost through being in a net energy (calorie) deficit. More lean body mass will slightly increase your BMR, the amount by which it increases is often vastly overblown. Diet is the most important thing to address.

    Looking at it from personal experience, those with more muscle are prone to be more active and have more active lifestyles. While muscle does increase your BMR slightly, its the lifestyle change that really makes one burn fat, cals in vs cals out.
