any fellow teen miscers suffer from depression?

I began struggling with depression back when I was 13 years old. I'm 17 now, and it's worse than ever. I'm not usually the type to go seeking help on the internet, but I've gotten to the point where i'll do anything. Other than my gf recently leaving me, I haven't had really any extremely hard things happen to me in my lifetime. I've got a good life, good family, money, great education, potential, friends, etc... Life just constantly feels meaningless though. I know it's stupid and irrational, but I constantly struggle with bitterness, anger, and depression and I'm not even sure why. I used to be a fairly talkative, funny guy, but I barely even talk anymore. I'm very monotone, stone faced, and robotic. I feel apathetic and don't really care about anything. I used to like being around people, but I hate it now and prefer being alone. The only thing that give me any happiness or relief anymore is weightlifting. I've begun training 6 days a week, 3 hours a day just to get relief. I know my problem probably sounds irrational and retarded, but I need some help/advice. After almost 5 years of feeling hopeless and angry, i'll do just about anything. Have any of you guys ever struggle with this and overcome it? Do you have any tips or advice?

Seek help man, like medical help, there are pills and stuff that help stop depression. Also remember all the good things you have in life and not the bad things, life's a journey and there is no point on procrastinating about things in the past. Focus on things that make you happy, like hobbies and family. Think about problems that you have and say to yourself "is this even going to matter in a years time " because most of the time, it doesn't. Remember that depression is one of the many emotion us as humans have and that you wouldn't focus your life on envy so why do it with depression!. Anywho man hope this advice helped you.

This for me as well, but it hits again every now and then when life feels pointless and I feel like nothing. Being productive helps

forget about materialistic things in this world, they are all temporary and will not give you true happiness.
you've got the resources so focus on a goal (probably around academics because that will carry through to later life). achieving a goal gives you a lot of pride in yourself and you will feel like you're progressing.

Anything in particular bothering you? It's important whether it's general depression, or situational.

If it isn't for any particular reason then go see a doctor.

I was depressed for years and am prone to it and it's really no way to live your life. It's a ****ing waste of life. Get it sorted out asap.

I've been in the same situation before Op. I have the same things as you, good family, good grades, good looks (being said out of confidence), good friends. But I still have and had those moments where it's just a horrible mindset. Idk how to explain it.

Send me a PM. I've talked to other guys on here about depression before and they said I've really helped them a lot. srs.

Nobody deserves to be depressed all the time.

Well, it's mainly general depression. My first gf recently left me though, and that has definitely made it worse. It's mainly just general though. Overall I have a pretty good life(good family, money, education, etc...), but for some stupid reason I constantly feel angry and depressed.

What did you do to get over your depression?

    All this is super srs.

    Vitamin C
    Vitamin B-Complex
    Vitamin D12(I think that's it)
    St. John's Wort
    Multi-Vitamin
    Choline/Inositol

And a little sun UV ray handhold light.

I suffer from seasonal depression (basically during winter when there's no sun my hormones go crazy and all my positive vitamin levels drop way low)

These are all happy/stress relieve vitamins. And the UV light gives your skin nutrients like the sun does. And increases positivity. Feel free to talk to people, and find a stress relief (if lifting isn't enough) (I write music, others do other things) so try this out.

    Srs advice is srs.

freshman year of highschool I was really depressed

thought of suicide pretty much daily, and had a few times where I had the gun to my head

when it came down to it, two things got me through it:

    1) killing myself would be the most selfish thing I could do, considering that MAYBE someone out there cares for me
    2) my life could always be worse than it was, don't take it for granted

the big change in my life was just losing weight/lifting. boosted my confidence a ton, and now I haven't been seriously sad in about a year. (junior in hs now)

edit: stay strong OP, it will get better.

and I leave you with this song, it makes me cry everytime I hear it, but it is so true.

    EDIT for additional info -

you seem to be pretty set, and in a very similar situation to me

when I look back, I see that lifting/losing weight made the big difference. but why? because it made me realize that I could do anything. That I had potential.

if you're doing well in school, have a caring family, money, etc just think about everything that you can do.

think about all the people who are too dumb or too unmotivated to have a shot at what you have

make the most of it, if not for yourself, then for the people who don't have the same opportunities.

What did you do to get over your depression?
Well I have been on antidepressants for like a year and a half and it helped a lot. I don't get extreme anxious depressive thoughts that used to prevent me from sleeping.

I do have a diagnosis (autism spectrum disorder) so my depression was a bit different than yours for example. I would get obsessive thoughts about something I perceived as negative and it would create positive feedback loops that fed into the depression making it long lasting. I worked on my self esteem and it did help quite a bit but then instead of getting depressed about important **** I would start to get depressed about **** that didnt even matter (for example I got towed once and it cost me 260 bucks [****ing piece of **** tow truck drivers] and got depressed about that when most people would be like "whatever its done"). I'm pretty sure it was the anti's that pushed me over the edge into "normal" territory.

Maybe you aren't doing enough with your life. I know even now I can easily slip into depression if I don't feel I'm being proactive enough with my life (like if I just sit around all day and don't interact with people I feel like **** all the time) and I get the feeling like most people describe as general depression with lack of motivation to do anything, etc.

But yo.. if you can't name anything in particular then it's likely a doctors visit is in order.

obviously you're going to hear more negative than positive because negative people are much more vocal. That's why you always hear about the negative side effects of accutane - because the hoards of people who had good experiences don't rush onto an internet forum to tell you how good it was for them.

Tell anyone who tells you not to go on antidepressents to **** off. Anyone who says that kind of stuff about drugs in general needs to go jump off the nearest bridge.

I was always the popular person in school, too. I was a starting varsity tight end and 3rd baseman, playing in the biggest classification in the state. So telling people about my depression didn't come easy to me. It got to the point where I would OD on pills to see how much pain I could force upon myself. It got bad man... Then one day I had my mom and friends tell the councelor at the school, and I was told if I wanted to play sports, I had to go see help. Man did it help. The councelor told me to start living for God. I had always grown up around the church and considered myself a "Christian" but I wasn't where I should have been. I started going to church every Sunday, and praying and praying for God to help me. He eventually introduced me to new friends, new hobbies (lifting), etc. Things that make me extremely happy to this day. I no longer have depressing days or thoughts man.

I am not sure if you are a believer or not, and I expect to get a lot of hate for this, but man pick up the Bible and read it for a few days, start praying and see what happens. If you seek Him, He will find you. I'm not trying to stir anything up in here, I just know how God honestly saved my life, and I know how He can save yours.

lol @ 3 year depression and suicide attempts because a girl dumped you
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.

A cognitive therapist will try to get you to alter your thinking patterns. When you see cognitive, think of "thinking." The therapist will also try to look at how you perceive things and also on childhood experiences and such things that influenced your state today.

Also, you mentioned in the original post that you would rather be alone than with friends. I'm the same way. I'm very monotone unless I choose otherwise. Everyone's always like "omg you're so shy, why don't you talk?" and I just want them to **** off because I could care less about their small talk. And the more I observe this behavior, the more it aggravates me and the more I notice it. I'm like becoming obsessed over the annoyance of people's pointless chatter. Enough with this rant, on to you man.

A person can generally have one of two personalities (or the rare occasion of a "mix"): introvert or extrovert.
Extroverts generally like small talk (pointless bullsht talk that introverts can't stand to withstand at times) and don't understand the personality of an introvert. Not only do they not understand, but they don't even know it exists, and don't respect it at all. Everyone thinks they should be sociable and talkative with one another, which is something extroverts don't understand about introverts. They think we're "shy" just because we don't phucking care about the bullsht. But in reality, we just don't care (like I've said.)

    More specifically now:
Introverts prefer being alone than with others. Introverts have friends, but they're close friends and in small numbers. Introverts CAN be sociable, but it doesn't last. Psychologists call it "recharging." Introverts recharge by being alone and in solitude. Introverts are happy and find more excitement when they're alone than with a group of not close friends or strangers. This can also happen with close friends if the time spent with each other is too long.
Extroverts are the *******s and bishes that think everyone should be talkative and chat 24/7. They are the idiots that don't acknowledge the existence of an introverted personality. They think they are normal because they try so hard to fit in with society and their sociable "groups." However, introverts question it when they don't have the knowledge of introversion or extroversion. So, introverts seek answers and find out they're introverts while extroverts go on with their lives, possibly being unhappy by trying to "fit in" which could lead to depression or anxiety.
Introverts don't really become close friends with extroverts for the aforementioned reasons. It's like gas and fire. The introvert will get annoyed by the constant small talk, and the extrovert will not understand why the introvert doesn't like to talk. They'll think the introvert doesn't like them or something, when in reality it's just the personality.

Respect has to be made between both personalities, and people need to acknowledge their own personality and those around them. Or else we're just a ticking time bomb ready to explode.

Hope this helped. This is all through my own interpretations and prior research on the topic. I hope to become some type of psychologist in the future, probably a therapist for teens struggling with their personalities.

Thanks if you actually read it all.
    No excuses, no explanations.

lol sorry man. somehow missed your last post. I've been taking st john's wort for about 2 months. It hasn't really helped much :/ I've also been taking a multivitamin for a long time. That hasn't really helped either. I know nutritional deficiencies can sometimes cause depression, but at this point i think my probelm is beyond that. Thanks for the list though!

Good read man. I would definitely say i'm an introvert. My friends all think i'm werid and don't understand why i talk more and it bugs the HECK outta me. They think i'm shy, but i really just don't feel like talking. I'm happy to be quiet. I do have a few close friends who i enjoy being with. I hate being in groups though.

Try to avoid relying on meds op, because one of my sisters is the same way. And when she runs out of anxiety pills all hell breaks loose and she gets worse and now it's gotten to the point where she can't live without them sadly.

The only advise I'm going to give you is seeking eternal life. Try going to church whatever your beliefs are, church helps a lot. Hope you get better op

    For all of you that are suffering with depression, let me shed some light on the subject and offer my advice;

#1 - Do NOT withdraw from society, you need to surround yourself with people you love and care for you. Get with a buddy or girl where you can do fun things and phuck the social media life. You need REAL people to be around.

#2 - Find peace for yourself, learn how to meditate, and if you're religious, pickup the bible.

#3 - Try to find a counselor that you can talk to that cares, reach out. You have to reach out, just like you did with this thread to get help. Talk to them daily/weekly to help you stay focused.

#4 - Medical help, I'm personally against this BUT there are cases where it's needed. You can use medication to get you through TOUGH times, and just ween yourself off of it.

#5 - You're not the only one to feel like this as I've learned over the years. When I was growing up, we didn't have social media or internet. You HAD to keep yourself busy and socialize with others. As time has evolved I blame technology for ALOT of issues going on with people today.

#6 - Lifting for me helps me mentally. I dig lifting because when I lift, I ONLY think about the iron.

#7 - Set yourself some life goals, small ones that will get you to big ones, and focus on hitting them. Many people do not have goals and just live day-to-day. I believe a person needs to have goals to shoot for. It gives us meaning and a purpose to live.

#8 - Go watch some porn, that always makes me feel better

OP (or anybody in here) can personally PM me anytime you want son. I'll try and help you as much as I can.
