specifically what applications are you looking to run?
I'm willing to bet there is a PC equivalent.
here is an example of a fully built PC.

This comp needs to be a laptop, not a PC. I need to be mobile and edit on the fly. That's one of the main reasons I'm not just building my own PC from scratch. There are decent PC laptops to look at, don't get me wrong, but I'm going to have to spend roughly the same amt as a MacBookPro to get an inferior product, so it seems...

Options galore.

Should probably read this about the new macs with retina screens. DEF not what you are looking for i'd think if you want to edit media.
There is very little storage.

all of them are good, but i would highly recommend getting a new one w/ applecare. are you dead set on a laptop? you might also want to consider an imac + macbook air, which would be about the same price as a macbook pro. for just photo editing you don't need anything super crazy. if you're gonna be doing any video that changes everything but even a macbook air can handle photoshop just fine.
edit: and i could be wrong but i don't think protools is super processor heavy either. the big caveat with macbook pros is they tend to get pretty hot (and thus reduced performance) when doing processor-driven work so that's why you might be better off with an imac that looks worse on paper but in practice might be a better option.Given enough time, any man may master the physical. Thanks for the insight!
It has to be a laptop b/c I need to be mobile. I can't edit in my little office forever, I go nuts. Instead, I need the option to go sit in a coffeehouse and edit for hours on end. It's all about surroundings. This is how I spend my free time*LF Chat Crew

16 minutes of 42s/18s on/off jump-roping crew completed before 5am crew checking in. Certainly not true HIIT, not skilled enough to keep a true balls-out pace, but I was begging for it to end by the time I was close to through. And still more afterburn than Brad has experienced in his whole life, squared.
In any case, it woke me the heck up, gonna try and keep that a ritual, adjusting interval/duration/pace as I get more skilled.
Gave up pancakes this morning, too.
I am hardcore.

I substituted a small potato, because they are a clean carb source and won't spike my insulin to catastrophic levels.
Actually, I ate the potato instead because I don't need to put syrup on a potato. I don't like diet syrups, they remind me of medicine, except they don't give me a buzz or put me to sleep.
I am starting out at 150g carbs/day this week, 2100 kcals/day, and seeing how that goes.
