What a sick bastard. Can't imagine how a parent deals with these kinds of things

Completely agree.
I'm trying to restrain myself, but I can't. I think you're delusional about this. Guns don't kill people!! People kill people. We own them to protect ourselves and feed our families. That is the purpose of them. Period. If an intruder came into my home, he would be dead by me pulling the trigger. If he didn't intrude, he'd be alive. The killer made the conscious choice to kill, not the gun.

I really hope you are wrong, but fear that you are right.
And I think you are delusional on this. Countries without guns have massively lower murder rates. That isn't even subject to debate. When someone goes psycho they rarely rack up a high body count either.
There is a higher chance, stastically, that the same criminal you are talking about will break into your home when you are not home and steal your gun than the chance that he will do so when you are home and you will use your gun on him. There is a higher probability that you will arm a criminal with your gun than you will kill one with it.

Not to add another tangent in here, but I do see fanaticism around religious extremes and superstitions playing a huge part in the sufferings of the world. There is much good that can come from faith and beliefs, but there are also terrible wrongs when extremes fester in the minds of wicked men.
People cling to fears of punishment for their wrong-doings and try to right them by acting out on fellow human beings. It's truly amazing that in this day and age we can still be such barbarians."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

I happen to agree there. Now I am an agnostic not some militant athiest and I think that if a person's faith gives them comfort and meaning in life and they don't use it as a reason to harm anyone I don't see any problem with it. I see no problem with it being a protected right for people to practice their religious faiths. However extremism and fanaticism are problems and as you said when they fester in the minds of the already mentally ill or damaged it can lead to terrible things.
I am worried that we will see more of than in the coming weeks than we care to. Sigh.

I am very similar in beliefs.
My life experiences have challenged my ability to fully acknowledge - on a definite level - the existence of a higher being, but at the same time I cannot ignore the possibility of it simply because there is no proof to the contrary. Thus, I must accept that it is possible - both for the lack of proof otherwise and because I do find certain parallels between my own observations and 'spiritual' experiences. One thing I do challenge is the accuracy of organized religion and the hypocracy and inconsistencies that exist between almost all established faiths. That being said, I believe any faith that does not allow for the peaceful coexistence with our beliefs to be without justifiable cause... hense my comment on the extremist base.
Another tangent, I know... but even though I cannot - in good faith (punn intended) - assign myself to a particular line of beliefs (because I find holes in ALL of them), a big part of me wants to belief in justice beyond what earthly means can provide. It gives comfort in a way to think those children are in a 'better place' and that the killer is answering for his wrong-doings."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

Absolutely terrible and it definitely ruined my day as well
And it's only compounded by the absolutely deplorable journalism. ******** groups calling for Ryan Lanza's (NOT the killer) death have already been created and his face is plastered on major television and online reporting sources. His life is basically donezo.

Most people know my stance as far as guns but let's not make this political.. Use this time to mourn for the family and friends of the departed.. Most of these kids were between the ages of 5-10 years old.. No time to actually experience life

Thats the crazy thing.
Most kids that look very normal and sane are the ones that are the craziest. Also think about this.. Social interaction of the individual. he was known as a very quiet individual. Think about most home schooled kids who are very proper with manners and etiquette that are around their parents, but when they go out and about and have no interaction they are true loners in the real world and really dont have any social outlets.
Most kids who appear to be safe, and sane are actually the oppositie (from what i have learned in Abnormal Psychology while in college) many trials and studies were done on kids who went to public schools vs those who are home schooled and how they grow up and their jobs. The kids who were home schooled did not really excel in public speaking or public jobs that had them engaging in conversation showing that if they were ludicrous in their head, nobody would really know it but themselves (the ones who did the shooting or those who did crazy things out of no where) because they have no outlets, they have no social networking or no social friends but themselves or whatever their own hobbies are.
So in essence those innocent looking people could be the next jeffrey dahmer (spelling but the serial killer).
Just the world we live in.
