OK brothers of the miscellaneous section of the Bodybuilding.com forum, I need to aware you on minimalism. I've been mentioning it here and there on the misc before, and a few people asked me to aware them,
Tell me brah, what is minimalism all about
• Living with purpose
• Getting rid of the clutter (both physical and mental) in your life
• Being frugal and resourceful
• Opting out of excessive consumerism (not as hard as it sounds, srs)
• Being financially responsible (no consumer debt)
• Giving less value to things, more value to experiences and people
Important values: cleanliness, fitness, health, empathy, critical thinking, etc
Note that minimalism is not a cult, not a sub-culture, not a religion, not a sect, none of this crap. It's a mentality that you adapt to your life in your own way in order to bring some purpose to it. That's it. There is no right or wrong answer — only discussion, respect and improvement.
This new way of thinking has changed many things for the better in my life. Less stress, I learned to slow down, appreciate what I have, it keeps me on my toes, I'm cleaner, more organized, and I overall feel more genuine around other people. It calmed me down. I have more realistic expectations towards life, and this made life a million times better for me.
I know that those of you who lift are especially strong-minded people (at least you can commit to a task and focus on a goal), so I hope this rings something good to you.
Some of you are minimalists and don't know it
No shampoo, no pillow, no this, no that — these are attempts (may they be successful or not) to remove extra stuff (clutter) from your life. It's pretty much the spirit of minimalism. Now that you're aware of this (lol), you can now try and take this way of thinking to more areas of your life where it would make sense for you.

Minimalism and Money
If you're especially interested in minimalism and money (frugality, going debt free, selling your clutter, etc), a few specialized sites exist that may interest you (some great resources for personal finance overall, not just for minimalists).

Cheers misc. Discuss, ask questions, etc etc. Let's make this a good ongoing thread of the Minimalist Crew.
Add "Minimalist Crew" to your sig if you're in — no silly symbols around it, no asterisks, none of that crap. Just a string of text.

I'm Mini enough brah.
Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like? a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!

that's pretty much how i roll. that's how i want to live, repped.
i'm architect and I've always found identified by the philosophy behind minimalist architecture and art. When i'm financially ready ( pretty soon) i will design and build my dream home, the best part is that it will look amazing and it will be extremely cheap to build.
i spend waaaaay less than my peers, i have no cell phone data plan, no debt, no car payments, nothing. And i look far from "dirty hippy" you can be stylish + minimalist.Last edited by suave2000; 12-06-2012 at 11:29 AM.

another thing fisker talks about is how a tool sort of starts at the person's brain.
show a lot of people a p38 and they have no idea what it is or how to use it.
instead we go out and purchase this thing.
he talks some about this in this podcast
http://www.thesurvivalpodcast.com/ja...rement-extreme
one of my favorite things he asks in his book is- why do we consider the guy sitting in traffic for 30 minutes in a nice car more successful than the guy sitting in the same traffic in an older car?

the can opener is a great example of doing more with less and being resourceful.
just because it's powered by electricity doesn't mean it's better:
brb no energy/money/time saved vs the manual thing
brb fked if no electricity
Interesting segment on 'design' and what it means for corporations today from the Objectified documentary (by Gary Hustwit):
being a (graphic) designer myself I'm sad that design is taking this turn and the whole definition of design is being redefined.
looks != design☆ Minimalist Crew — http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=150153773

Been reading up on this and implementing segments into my lifestyle for the last year or so. posted a few threads on the misc about how i sold all of my things and ceased all my excessive buying, and committed social media suicide.
so far I've managed to save more money then I ever have, haven't bought a pair of shoes in a year or so. really no electronics either and I've been feeling so much more clear headed regarding everything in my life. Being African american it was really difficult at first due to peer pressure from friends, family etc. i was getting weird looks when i told my friends I'm never buying a pair of Jordan again, no more designer clothes(although i do occasionally stop in and get some v necks comfort hnnnnnggggg) and im keeping my current vehicle until the wheels fall off. I've never felt a more liberating feeling then when i donated the majority of my clothing to good-will except my black t-shirts and a few pairs of jeans.
To the minimalist brahs above with no cell phone data plan. how hard was it to relinquish it? I've pondered numerous times about getting rid of my smart phone but every-time I get close i find another app that aids me in some sort of way.
