Then tell all of the people in your city that they should thank you for calling your City Hall every day...
I could give a sh!t less about what other people do or their lack of social skills or common sense.
The only people where it is my concern whether or not they have no manners is my kids.

And what exactly is your definition of productive? Calling City Hall? If you have a problem with City Hall, why aren't you running for office? Be the change! Lead the change Krane! That is what we need to discuss, your inability to take the lead, anyone can pester City Hall, why not become City Hall?

Then who'd he call every day?
I'm guessing having to be the one answering the phone and talking to others who call city hall every day would solve the problem of stimulating conversation.
Judging from the topics of threads started by Krane, he'd fit right in either major political party just fine.________________________________________

Neither. But I can understand why someone like yourself with limited perspective might jump to that conclusion. That's a good thing...right? And no credit comes my way? After all, I'm the one who has to tolerate these jokers. Your kids learn from your example and the example of adults around them. Haven't you figured that out yet? I like the sound of that!

I get it, that the OP irks a few people here, but let's not mince words; I agree wholeheartedly with his very sentiments, as it relates to cell phones. Seriously, nobody else feels that these wonderful devices, while they've occasionally saved lives, have also single handedly made 90% of drivers idiots (like we needed more, lofl)? People in grocery, retail, etc., stores, clueless morons that impede daily business? I damn sure do!
Get off my lawn!? Nope. It's changed to............
"Get off that mother fcking cell phone and stop fcking everyone else up, you gawd damned moron!"
But don't get me started...............

If his concern was safety, I'd be all in. He is bitching about being bothered by conversations. I hear conversations all the time while out in public. That's life.
Change the thing you can change, accept the things you cannot change, and have the wisdom to know the difference. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

LOL, I hear ya, Craig. And btw, you CAN change things; There are laws popping up all over the country that prohibit and restrict use of these wonderful devices. But....I'll also be quite candid, that I'm NOT just talking about safely, but about Americans becoming mindless idiots, clogging every avenue that any of us ever knew about "expedition" of everyday functions; McD's (no, don't go often, but...lol) the idiot in front of you gets "their turn", and has to finish an inane conversation before even acknowledging the cashier, let alone ordering. Grocery stores; they meander down aisles like people from a zombie movie, totally unaware that they're blocking the aisle or someone trying to get around them. Please, don't even try to tell me that you don't encounter this?
As I've said before; Cell phones are one of the greatest inventions on earth, but they are also one of the worst, for what they've helped transform our societies into.

I agree with you about how most of the world acts as "sheeple". It's a subject you might as well forget about because there is nothing you can do about it. The world is ****ed, it's just a question of how bad it will become while we are still here. In the end, we are going extinct at some point in time for one reason or another, it's sad that we will probably bring it upon ourselves sooner than needed though. The average person is lazy and dumb and the thinkers are way too far outnumbered to overcome this. Also, the people at the "top", are MOSTLY (not all of them, I salute those that actually do care) concerned about money more than environment and they have the power to change things, but they don't use it. All they are worried about is making money and or getting re-elected.

I encounter rude humans everyday in one capacity or another. Heck, I am sure I am one of them at times.
I suspect inventions such as the phone have done nothing more than to reveal the selfish nature of those who use them in a manner which bothers others. And as much as I would like it to be otherwise, you cannot legislate people to be unselfish.
This is why I suggested OP "be" the change he desires to see around him. Instead, he calls City Hall, and brags about how no one has ever heard him have a cell phone conversation. That is like a guy who brags about being to work on time everyday....IOW, who cares. If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

As probably, am I
Kind of skewed phrasing there ^. You can't make people not steal, but you can make it a crime to do so. Using the word "selfishness" is a bit of a canard in this discussion, as it isn't really what we're talking about here (at least, I'm not, necessarily). I'm talking about a device that, while it connects people in an amazingly convenient way, has also, totally "separated" people in the same fashion.
And btw, you didn't reply to my accounts regarding stores, restaurants, etc., becoming less tolerable to be in because of this..."selfishness", that you would so easily dismiss . Everyone here experiences it...and it GROWS WORSE!
This ^...I don't care about

Your suggestions are well founded albeit late. Also I wasn't bragging, I was responding to a derogatory comment and setting the record straight: I don't ask for anything I don't do!
As for the calls to City Hall, that was to show I just don't comment about something wrong, I don't actively work on improving them. I'm simply taking advantage of the same opportunities given to all tax payers. I believe that when you pay for a service, you should get it.
Finally, in 30 years of working in hospitality and in dealing in the public service sector, I have never had the gall to tell a customer/patron or otherwise they can't complain about something, or that they complain too much. Therefore, I feel sorry for the public servant that has the audacity to say something like that to me. What about you?Last edited by KRANE; 12-06-2012 at 03:21 PM. Reason: clarify

"Do you think SHE actually felt like that was a sexual thing he was doing? She's like 6. Only an actual p3do would think that she thought he was groping her, too."

I still have a small flip phone that fits nicely in my pocket. I could afford a "smart" phone, however I have no need for one. I do not text and if someone texts me they do not get an answer. I may call them, however by now people know to call if they want a response. People are so dependent upon their phones. People are becoming disconnected. Actually, they already are. Twenty years from now children will be growing up with no social skills whatsoever. So that means that they will be anti-social fatties. Not just fatties. Of course I am joking. Kind of.

I get the bargain basement phone from Verizon. I'm gonna pay $50 and up per month for a smart phone? Those are only smart for those that invented it.
Adult people in my family will text me because they lack the balls to talk to me about some family things... those get deleted as fast as they come in. I just can't see myself attached to my phone. It gets left in the car and goes dead fairly often, or I leave it off for a few days just because I can.

They're already meeting that standard...........
But, but, but...dude, your wife could be trying to tell you to get Heinz, not Del Monte ketchup!!! This could be a game changer! And $hit, if you don't get that text about the company picnic changing venues, the email about Bill being promoted to VP...all while you're on your day off and at the store....Jesus, the world will surely stop!

Bolded: Not the function of technology, but simply poor parenting. I work with students and parents all day, everyday. Not very scientific, but after ten years of doing it, I simply cannot/will not blame phones/technology. Technology reveals issues for sure, but cause and affect? Not so far as I can see.If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.
