Hey guys, never really been too into guns (always a huge fan of knife collecting though) but I've been following this thread for a while and was wondering if someone can someone give me some general information on what's going on.

I'm assuming this buying craze is for two reasons - first, the school shooting, second, people are afraid that 'assault rifles' will be banned. I'm assuming no one knows what will happen, but is there any idea as to when we'd find out? Is this something that will have a decision soon or is this just a 'maybe' type thing?

Also. I'm looking at AR15's and I'm almost positive I'll sell two or three of my knives and pick one up. I'm assuming I'm way too late to the party and I don't really want to drop 2k on a rifle that normally cost 800 dollars. I'd probably be getting a daniel defense ddm4 or a colt 6290. I know its pure speculation, but assuming there is no bill passed, would it be reasonable to assume the prices will be dropping drastically in 2-3 months when everyone is trying to get rid of the guns they bought?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if my questions are stupid. I'm new but trying to learn

I had an LCP. Really disliked it. The trigger pull felt like miles. Concealability was very good but I hated shooting it. Just rent it before you buy it.

    Opinions on this vary.

Personally I think that by about April we should have a good idea.

Right now CONgress is not in session, but they will reconvene (and be a "new" congress as a result of elections shaking some things up) in January. I think that if a gun control bill doesn't get somewhere within a couple months of their reconvening, it isn't going to happen. Probably a lot of other people will see it that way

Have to agree. But there really aren't that many other guns you can throw in your pocket as easily as the LCP though

So I went to my LGS for the first time since the panic to get some rifle powder. Pretty busy. Out of stock of a lot of things, but prices weren't crazy high. M&P 15 was selling for $1100(EDIT. This is a high price, but I don't keep track of ****ty AR prices). Some sort of collapsible stock AK for $649. G3 PMAG's with windows for $29. Also had either 800-1k of some sort of 55gr 5.56 in ammo can for $319.

Was going to go shoot the AR for the first time after the little family get together last night but had to much fun with the family to leave. Might go later today since my buddy gave me his carry handle to have until I got an optic.

Rejection is part of life and if you go around avoiding it, then you aren't going to realize everything this universe has to offer. The quick, sharp pain of rejection you feel is a very momentary fleeting feeling that will disappear. The pain of "what if", however, can last a life time

What is your preferred powder for .223 plinking rounds? I just bought 3k CCI match AR primers due to the run on them (snagged small and lrg pistol as well).

    I dont reload .223 yet.

I prefer a ball powder if possible.

Right now CONgress is not in session, but they will reconvene (and be a "new" congress as a result of elections shaking some things up) in January. I think that if a gun control bill doesn't get somewhere within a couple months of their reconvening, it isn't going to happen. Probably a lot of other people will see it that way
I have a coworker that is a lifelong gun owner, bird hunter, knowledgeable about the law and has 4 different NRA instructor certifications. I was telling him about all of the gun buying fervor currently happening. I asked him what he thought a good strategy would be for purchasing. He said nothing. He doesn't believe any laws will pass as the House has a Republican majority and the Senate is very closely even. Even after telling him that this last shooting has brought out a lot of discussion from many different parties he still doesn't think any legislation will be passed.
