Done competing, moved onto other endeavors in life. Probably healthier now. Amazing when people freak out when they see pros after they are done.

That's a sensible routine for a slightly overweight man in his 40's.
The posters saying 'do you want them to stay 260 lean when theyre 60?!'...noone is saying that, but its shocking for people to get a real idea of what genetics means. The only pre-pro physique have seen that was impressive is Heaths, but he was a basketball player and probably doing regular power lifts. But you can tell his insertions and shape are 'gifted'...with so many others, before and after their pro career there's no way to guess they would ever make good bodybuilders.

Yeah, I'm 38 but the over 35 forum is not as much fun. Before 35 and after 35 are totally different worlds physically. After 35 you have a pretty good idea that if you arent already pretty damn huge that it probably isnt going to happen. Lol. Whole workout changes at that point.

There are many accounts of Dillett training like this during his hey day aswell, kind of a joke actually. Was just on his phone doing half assed workouts with mediocre weights. Look he wasnt a weakling, he benched 160kg easily(on someones account). But look, its not about weights. Ok regarding this thread. First of all, all these pros have amazing response to hormones. ALL of the elites, none of them dont. Regarding who had the freakiest genetics in this regard, impossibe to say. How much is genetics in this sport? Its everything, and you dont know it until u see it in front of u.
Story..................... dude in my gym, hes 24 years old, not wide clavicles, very good shape in arms, walks around at 210pounds, 6ft1, 15% bf. Doesnt lift heavily at all. Then decides to go on bicycle of VAR and cypicious, and within 3 weeks, his delts are capped, arms look amazing, and everyone stares at him. Increases weight to 220 pounds with same bf in about 2 months. With the pros, its amplified. Once this dude goes off, his shoudlers drop, and he looks normal again. response is everything. Coupled with the frame and joints, once the muscle grows on those frames. u have a god like product.
Regarding Dillett, he is not following diets, training regimes or d-protocols. Dillett is 47, a father of 4. So it doesnt shock me that he looks like a normal middle aged man, coupled with kidneys not performing at 100%, ( apparently he suffered kidney failiure a few years ago which explains some things awell).
Look i can understand that some bodybuilders on this forum hate it when the ignorant few or many make claims that its 100% drugs. it is hard training, and following diets and force feeding which is most important. But its the drugs that allow the body to use the nutrients and volumize even further to epic proportions. Without drugs, there is no professional bb,we would jsut have a Dillett and a Ronnie walking around at 230/240 pounds with 20 inch arms, yes this means that they are still elite, jus not freaks.
Which bodybuilder example story should shut everyone up...Betty Pariso. A walking chemical factory, grandmother. Started out as a 100pounds blond, rail thin women. With consistent use of anabolics she developed massive delts, legs etc... she got even bigger past the age of 40, all due to synthetics. Dont underestimate the power of the drugs, they are everything in this sport, just have the guts to take boat loads and have the dedication to put yourself through strenuous training and more importantly eat correctly. Can anyone argue the importance of drugs when looking at the Betty Pariso as an example? please humour me. Anyways, time to eat some chicken and pizza, sushi and go on bicyles and growth for 6 months straight, that human being will grow in all the right places.Last edited by jld010; 11-11-2012 at 11:45 PM.

Lots of posters going all one way or the other. The reality is that these former competitors are all different people. Some may have actual health problems (heart or other organs), while others just got mentally tired of living the way successful pros have to.
And yet others may have indeed experienced some sort of zen-like epiphany about the spiritual vs the physical.Time To Re-Schedule

Age is not really an issue unless you're five months shy of your 86th birthday. The thing is that most men can try to look more like Steve Reeves. Of course improving your physique becomes harder and harder as you age, especially if you are in your 50s and beyond. It takes a lot more motivation to stay huge and ripped at 60 because it's simply much harder to stay in shape at that age even if you're genetically gifted. Unless you're a 65-year-old Hollywood action star who gets paid $10M to have 17-inch arms, 30-inch waist and 6% body fat to star in a movie, you need tremendous discipline and willpower to even look half as good as that. Hey, is there any sane person in this world who wants to live the rest of his life weighing 270 pounds and having 10% body fat? If anything, Chris Cormier not only looks better now but he's also much happier and healthier. Answer this question: would you look better if you weigh 200 pounds with 17-inch arms, 31-inch waist, 9% bodyfat compared to if you weigh 280 pounds with 23-inch arms, and 38-inch waist? My own answer is YES.

I looked 10 years younger for my age the day I turned 33. The pattern remains the same every year. But I want to look 80 like Sean Connery.
I practice science, art, sport and philosophy, therefore, I'm a bodybuilder.
