Because he's less extremist and more in tune with the shifting demographics of America. Republicans do not carry minorities or women, which are the biggest voting demographics. I don't love Obama. most young people have not developed their own personality, viewpoints, or ability to reason. they're used to basing their actions on whatever provides social approval. govt-run indoctrination centers, aka school, help reinforce this behavior.

sadly, age doesn't really help but at least once you've seen a number of elections come and go there's a chance you might not get as swept up in the excitement. for now you can view it as a chance to hone your powers of persuasion.

As a person with a good paying job, who voted for Gary Johnson, I can honestly say that if I were forced to choose solely between Obama and Romney I would have to side with Obama. The Republicans have defined themselves as a party that cares very little about the struggles of women, alternative lifestyle individuals, and are ostracizers of minorities not counting their few kept house Negros and Hispanics marched out for conservative sound bites.
