im 260 lbs. i want to lose 20 lbs in one month. what are some good strategies?

5''11 260. how many calories should i eat? currently i go anywhere from 1800-2200. i notice if i go 1500 then im starving. at one time i stayed at 1500 calories for a week and didnt lose any weight.

but i want to get some diet and some exercise strategies. what are some good ideas? thanks

i was recently at 272 but kept my calories around 1800-2200 and lost about 2.5 lbs per week. but now I want to RAMP up the weight loss and go 5 lbs + per week!

You're going to have to go under 1500 calories and kill yourself in the gym. If you do that it's improbable that you'll get more than 3 or 4, but at your weight it might be possible...a lot of it will likely be water though.

If you want to lose 5+ pounds a week, then you need to cut or burn 17,500+ calories a week from what you need.

    Good luck.

This seems like it usually happens to people who cut too much too soon, including yours truly, except maybe the gallstones part, because you can't really maintain it; as you lose weight you have to progressively cut calories more to keep losing weight.

Don't rush your time-frame to lose the fat, keep it realistic. But if you really want to achieve the fast fat loss, consistency and strong will power is what is needed. Ensure you read the stickies, I would aim a max of 2lbs a week loss.

I'll say this once more, don't rush it.

What I always suggested to people was no more then 10 lbs a month on weight loss. Anymore is unhealthy unless if your super super fat.

    5'11" 260 lbs. Recently at 272...

At 13 went from 240 to 180 starving himself....

Now needs to RAMP UP the weight loss.

    Yeah...that will work.

In these situations, I like the "just cut your leg off" solution. It's much more permanent than anything else you're going to come up with.

    Good luck!

May I suggest reading the stickies?
A diet isn't punishment. A diet is a way to reward your body with the wholesome, nutritious food that it needs. Your body composition is a direct reflection of what you put in your mouth.

20lbs in one month? What's a good strategy?

Change your goal. That is the best strategy. I don't mean give up, I mean don't set a crazy ass goal.

Your body should really not be losing more than about 2lbs a week long term. You might lose 10-14 lbs the first month, but you really need to just realize that you will be farrrrrrrr better off taking this journey with a steadfast "I will win" attitude, but also with a dose of patience and realism.
My wife (who is very fit) knows a few women who have lost weight at that rate- usually this is only possible for people who are pretty obese. But, the bad part is, they just make themselves miserable and I think this makes a lot of them rebound/fail/yo-yo.

You didn't GAIN 20lbs in a month. So stop trying to think it is reasonable to take it OFF that fast.

Slow steady and determined wins this race.
    Nobody improves without trying. Period.

Listen to your wisdom as you gain it. Rarely are things lost forever. Change is usually always possible. Second chances sometimes reveal better results than first chances. Always look to believe that you can and will be better. You're not done until you give up.

(Bear= wife's nickname for me... Luna= my nickname for her)

Go low carb, OP. you'll probably find that at your current weight, you drop 10lbs in water weight near enough over night.

Then just diet sensibly at a proper deficit. Ignore these guys who are saying that to lose 5lbs a week, you need to eat on a starvation diet or it can't be done. When someone is obese and they begin a diet, it's not uncommon for them to shed 7 or 8lbs a week for the first few before their body settles down into a rythmn - that initial calorie drop shocks the body into giving up fat reserves before it realises what's going on.

In the long term, you should be looking at losing between 1 and 2lbs a week. But to begin with, that big drop is common, nothing to worry about and can be welcome.

Yeah I lost 17lbs in 4 weeks but 9lbs of those were in the first week and I'm guessing 7-6lbs water weight. 20lbs of fat would be a whole different story, but with probably a 5-10lbs drop in water weight it's entirely doable.
