But wait, that's not all. This is what a Scottish referee said about the weekly assaults Rangers players are dealing with right now:

I am astonished that others, especially fans, are surprised that their lower league opponents are getting stuck into Rangers.

What are they meant to do? Lie down to the big team? I hardly think so.

Rangers are just going to have to accept they are in for battles every week — and adapt their play accordingly.

Within the laws of the game, of course.

In fairness to boss Ally McCoist and his staff, I have not heard much criticism from them about how their matches are being refereed.

Officials handed Rangers games will not have a deliberate mind-set of giving leeway to their part-time opposition. That would be unacceptable.

But, subconsciously, I can understand if during matches they view certain tackles or fouls mindful of their level.

Also, if a Rangers player does the same thing the ref could think ‘He’s a better player than that, that was cynical, that is a booking’, rather than simply taking the view it was a mistimed action.

It is a very thin line for the officials involved in Rangers’ league fixtures.

Foul play is foul play, after all. That is the bottom line.

But it would still be only human nature for referees to weigh up certain incidents and be aware of the fact the part-timers have probably only trained twice that week.

That they tried to get to the ball as fast as they could, as opposed to trying to deliberately foul a Rangers player.

The referee has to avoid it becoming just a brutal kicking match while allowing a degree of competitiveness. Let’s face it, the public want to see that. They enjoy the blood-and-snotters element.

Our referees start life as fans too and it is part of their mentality that a good strong tackle is part of the Scottish game.

I have said before that in this unprecedented season referees taking charge of Rangers matches are faced with whole new challenges.

Maybe McCoist’s players have come in for some strong treatment. Maybe the opposition have occasionally not got the card punishment they have deserved.

But Rangers players are going to have to learn fast.

They cannot hope to get out of Division Three by playing only sophisticated football.

They are also going to have to roll up their sleeves and be prepared to do the dirty work to add to their superior ability.

Earn the right to play how they want — never mind just waiting for referees to protect them.

I don't even... This is precisely why Scottish football is so shiit and lacking in technical ability.
