Is the God of War series as amazing as my friend tells me? I'm thinking about buying the set on Amazon for like $30 and then getting Ascension if I like it.
Last year I spent more money on spilled liquor in bars than 99% of miscers make in a year.

I finished the saga/box set about a month ago, and I'm gonna say you won't get the full experience if you skip out on the first 2. So be sure to play the first two.I would not have appreciated III at all (and wouldn't appreciate ascension) if I didn't play I and II. I don't think anyone could look forward to ascension without knowing the story.
Might be a bit of a pain to go through I and II with poverty PS2 mechanics/graphics, but just bear with it. After knowing the entire backstory and seeing how the gameplay improved, I was absolutely blown away by III. GoWIII is probably my favourite game on PS3 as far as exclusives go.
You can skip the origins collection (Chains of Olympus/Ghost of Sparta). Just PSP games, with PSP mechanics/graphics on the PS3. Nothing special and would recommend skipping them as they really aren't essential/needed.
I played Chains of Olympus on my PSP and from what I've seen its more or less the same thing on PS3. You can skip them. They really aren't that good and Dante's Inferno was much more fun on the PSP than CoO. Watch the cut scenes if you want on YouTube if you want to know the story or just read the wikipedia plot summary.

Oh ok, THANKS! Ill probably just wait if its dirt cheap.
That said: Every PS4 games will also be available digitally. Not for me though. Where is the fun in that if you cant smell your new game!
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/02/...able-digitally
Sony has revealed that it plans to make every PlayStation 4 game available as a digital download, in a similar style to the model used for the PS Vita.
In an interview with The Guardian, Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida explained that the flexibility afforded by adopting a digital distribution model would allow the company to diversify how the company prices games.
"We're shifting our platform more and more to the digital side," he explained. "PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc.
"The Witness will be a digital release and because of the flexibility of the digital distribution scheme, we can have more small games that might be free or available for a couple of dollars, or different services like free-to-play or subscription models."
When asked whether this could lead in the future to some sort of "Spotify for games" service being introduced on the PS4, Yoshida admitted that such a thing could be feasible with the help of Gaikai.
"As more and more services and contents become available digitally, we'll have more of an option to create attractive packages. So hypothetically we can look at different models – like a cable TV company," he mused. "We could have gold, silver or platinum levels of membership, something like that. We can do subscription services when we have more content – especially now that we have the Gaikai technology available. With one subscription you have access to thousands of games – that's our dream."
So there you have it; if you're a fan of digitally purchasing your games then the PS4 will have you covered. If you prefer to have a physical disc-based product you can hold in your hands though, never fear; Sony's Jim Ryan told IGN that Blu-ray discs will still be the PlayStation 4's dominant delivery mechanism for games, despite a wider move towards a more connected console.CHRISTMAS Forever Crew

i prefer digital download over physical copy... when the kiddo grabs a ps3 disc when im not looking and cracks it, scratches it or slobbers all over it and it no longer works you have no recourse but to buy a new disc. With digital, its tied to your account. so download it as many times as you want onto your machine.. I would rather have the reassurance that the game will always be available on my account, like itunes apps.
Digital download will be the future, eventually we wont even see optical drives. The Sony buyout of Gaikai was a huge move in that direction.Redwings|Badgers|Packers

Sony News
Next Gen is When Blu-ray Will Finally Actually Shine
The PS3′s inclusion of Blu-ray was a controversial one – it added significantly to the console’s already insane price, delayed it in Europe and came at a time when many thought that HD-DVDs would win. But at least all the games would all be 50 gigabytes of awesomeness, right?
Sadly, as we all know, multiplatform developers and publishers work on the principle of lowest common denominator – they develop games as best as they can on the worst combination of 360 and PS3 specs. That means that almost all games are DVD size on PS3 because the 360 can only play DVDs. Publishers have little incentive to optimize a game for one platform, and, if they did, the worse off platform holder could get angry and even block the game’s release until everything is made equal again (sad, but true). Publishers generally also don’t see it as cost effective to release multiple-disc games, so only a few multiple discs were made.
Thankfully, exclusives (proper ones, not timed ones) are able to make use of the full disc space. Unfortunately, the number of AAA exclusives is limited and multiplatform games dominate the industry and the charts. But even if you only bought exclusives, the PS3′s Blu-ray player was painfully flawed – as it came out when Blu-ray was new, and the read speeds were incredibly slow. At 2x, game loading can be painfully slow, developers are still struggling to make sure everything doesn’t slow down to a crawl, and we often have to install huge amounts of data (and the install takes forever).
The PlayStation 4 will be the first PlayStation console to not use a new disc format, but that doesn’t matter. It’ll be the first PlayStation console to properly use Blu-ray.
Every single rumor points towards the next Xbox using Blu-ray, from the new rumors, to the leaked Microsoft document, to sources that were correct about PS4 details. That means that, finally, the lowest common denominator will be 50GB discs, and multiplatform games titles will actually use the full potential. Multiplatform engines will be able to be much larger, assets will be bigger, cutscenes will be better, audio will be higher quality. The general visual and auditory quality bar will be raised, meaning that even mainstream games like Call of Duty will have to improve, ensuring a better looking industry for all.
Not only that, but the PS4′s Blu-ray player isn’t crippled by age. Its 6x read speeds easily outperform the PS3′s, meaning that Sony’s PlayStation Meeting promise of no waiting between putting the game in and starting to play it. Don’t expect to grow obese from making so many sandwiches while you wait for your game to be ready, don’t expect to have to buy a huge harddrive even if you’re not a fan of digital content.
Next generation, Blu-ray will finally be used to its full potential, great news for upcoming PlayStation 4 owners and Xbox 720 owners alike.

Sony exec on PS4 pre-owned games: 'We will do the right thing'
A Sony Computer Entertainment exec has said the platform holder is mindful of both the desires of consumers and game developers in relation to the use - and potential blocking - of pre-owned games on PS4.
Michael Denny, Sony's VP of Worldwide Studios, told CVG that he sees the used games issue as "massively important" and promised the PlayStation firm will "do the right thing" by both parties.
"It's a massively important issue and I understand why it's one that keeps coming up and will keep coming up, because people want to know what the exact stance is," he said in reply to a question about potential pre-owned games prevention.
"At this moment in time the announcements have been about our philosophy and vision for PlayStation 4, our motivation to put the gamer at the heart of it and why we've got the development community on it.
"In relation to points like that, of course we're mindful of what the game development community wants and what the wider industry issues are with those things. I think in good time that will become clearer."
It has been suggested that next-generation consoles could implement measures to prevent the use of used games as developers move to recoup lost revenue, and Sony has patented various technologies related to the blocking of second-hand titles.
According to one report, Microsoft will block the use of pre-owned games on its next-gen Xbox.
Last week Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that used games will function on PlayStation 4, but did not clarify whether players would have 'original owner rights' to second hand games, or need to pay for online passes to access the content.
Pushed on the issue, Sony's Denny would only acknowledge that the firm would do what it sees as "the right thing" by both consumers and the development community.
"It's not something that I feel I have any further announcement or comment to make on, other than to acknowledge with you that it's a massively important issue and of course we are going to do the right thing," he said.
Sony revealed the PlayStation 4 at a New York press conference last week. The PS4 release date is set for "holiday 2013", likely across Japan, Europe and the US.

All PlayStation 4 Games Downloadable, Will be on PSN Day 1, “They’re 50GB”
Last week, we let you know that the PlayStation Vita is besting the PlayStation 3 in digital downloads, mostly due to the fact that all Vita titles are made available on the PlayStation Network on release day. Sony will now be continuing that strategy with the PlayStation 4, where every title will hit the PSN day one.
This news comes from a Shuhei Yoshida interview with The Guardian, where he was asked how important it was to help support small studios:
I believe it’s very important for the platform to have a wide variety of developers making things that are unique and creative. We’re shifting our platform more and more to the digital side – PS4 will be similar to PS Vita in that every game will be available as a digital download, and some will also be available as a disc. The Witness will be a digital release and because of the flexibility of the digital distribution scheme, we can have more small games that might be free or available for a couple of dollars, or different services like free-to-play or subscription models.
Shuhei then continued by answering a question if he thinks that the drawn out task of finding a game, downloading it, then downloading updates is a thing of the past:
Absolutely. Yes. I find myself spending more time playing Vita games and I think part of the reason for that is it’s immediate. I can stop at any time without quitting and it’s instantaneous to start again. I don’t have to quit out or reboot. It’s wonderful. That’s one part of immediacy – the other is waiting for downloads. That’s ridiculous, that’s crazy! We want to get out of this madness with PlayStation 4. The games are big, they’re 50GB; download isn’t instantaneous. So we’re making purchase available from any device, so when you’re at work, you can spend a couple of moments looking at PlayStation Store and choosing a game, and straight away it starts to download at home. It may take a couple of hours but that’s okay because you’re still at work.
Also, similarly to progressive download on some movie services, you don’t have to wait for all the data to download before you start playing. Once you have the minimum amount of data downloaded you can begin the game, and while you play, the remaining data downloads. It takes some engineering input from developers so we’re talking to the community. We’re evangelising it.
So, with the PS4, we can expect day one digital on every retail game, automatic downloads when you purchase a game from any device, and that the download sizes can reach 50GB.

Sony Confirms Blu-Ray Still Primary Media Format for PS4
Despite the exciting possibilities the PS4‘s dedicated processor for background processing will bring, Sony is still sticking with a disc-based delivery mechanism, for now. Though there was nigh on a mention of what media future PS4 games (Killzone: Shadow Fall, inFAMOUS: Second Son, etc…) would release on, Sony has now confirmed Blu-Ray discs will still be the dominant format.
With the introduction of PS Plus and Day 1 Digital Downloads, Sony has taken bold steps to create a digital distribution platform that rivals anything available on the PC. Granted, they still have a way to go before the PSN is seen as a Steam equivalent, but with their next-gen console Sony could get there.
However, as Sony’s Jim Ryan tells IGN, the Blu-Ray isn’t going anywhere. Ryan sees the writing on the wall – digital distribution is the future – but with download speeds what they are, there is still a need for physical media.
Early, and this applies not just to games but to pretty much every form of entertainment, there is a trend to increased digital consumption, and that is happening now on PS3 and will continue and will probably accelerate on PS4. But the primary delivery mechanism for the big games on the PS4 platform will continue to be Blu-Ray discs, for the foreseeable future.”
That doesn’t mean that gamers won’t see a switch to digital downloads within the PS4‘s lifespan, though, that’s actually a likely scenario. When asked for a time frame, Ryan was decidedly evasive, but five years appears to be what Sony is looking at.
For now, however, Sony – according to Ryan – encourages developers to take full advantage of a Blu-Ray disc’s 50GB of storage space, a file size that would take days to download on some people’s Internet connections.
So, though we may not know what the PS4 console actually looks like, or have a clear picture of some of its inner workings, Sony is slowly revealing more and more as the days go on. Next up: E3 2013, where even more should be revealed.

Sony VP: “PlayStation 4 Will Have The Strongest Launch Line-up We’ve Ever Had”
PlayStation’s vice-president of Worldwide Studios has spoken with considerable confidence about the potential strength of the PS4′s range of games at launch – claiming that it will be Sony’s greatest-ever line-up.
In an interview with CVG, Michael Denny said: “With PlayStation 4 what’s exciting is we can see the strength in depth of titles come through – not just in first party but third party, and I really believe PlayStation 4 will have the strongest launch line-up we’ve ever had.
“I think you’re always going to want to cover the big genres – the big, triple-A experiences – and keep pushing them and keep innovating within them.”
A number of appetite-whetting games have already been announced for the PlayStation 4, including Watch Dogs and Killzone: Shadow Fall, while the developers of the ambitious Drive Club have also stated their intentions to release at launch.
“I think Drive Club was a great idea and part of their vision you would’ve seen in Motorstorm RC on Vita – more of a social type racer, but on PS4 I think they feel they can do a more fully formed racer and bring some of those things in to it,” added Denny.
The PS4 is currently slated for a Holiday 2013 release.
