This is true, since peanut butter is so dense and thick it will hold the nutrients in your system longer.

You still would want to get the muscle supplied with protein and carb in the window of opportunity bout 30 minutes after the workout. Since no whey, the only thing I could think of is egg whites and plenty of glucose.

Are you sure you couldn't afford some protein? It may be cheaper than you think.

For example, a 160 serving bottle of Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein from bb.com provides protein at a cost of 1.7 cents per gram of protein. A can of plain tuna, for 50 cents, provides protein at a cost of 1.6 cents per gram of protein.

And if you look around, you will be able to find whey even cheaper than that.

I work out right before dinner for say tonight when I get home Im drinking a protein shake "scrach that for your case" but Im also going to eat some green beans, baked potato, and a big NY strip steak, safeway had a sale 4.99 a pound its not a tenderloin but ohwell the protein content should still be good

if you have a Sams Clubs there you can get a big ass package of roast beef for pretty cheap like 8 bucks for 1 1/2-2lbs I love to munch on that stuff Mmmmm

Im all about hitting the sales

I also picked up some chicken tenderloins for 2.50 a pound Im going to bake them for quick snacks

The next best food source is egg protein but since that is even more expensive than Whey there is really no point. Most good cheaper Whey powder is under $0.40 a serving. That’s around 23g of good amino acids for under $0.40.

    Or do this:
Find all the amino acids needed for protein synthesis.
Search for proteins with those amino acids.
Find out how much you need of that protein you found that would give you the same amount of amino acids you would need to trigger the same protein synthesis that 23g of Whey would.
    Buy all that protein.
Realize that you spent 5 times more than it would cost for Whey and find a way to get Whey.

Think amino acids, not protein. (I think I need to add that to my sig ). How much protein you get doesn’t really make that much difference. It’s the amino acids from that protein that your body needs.
It's better to be cynical than naive.
