Recoil wasn't an issue, I think the clean & fast break of the trigger vs the M&P (stock) just caught him slightly offguard.
Agreement on the Shield prices. Folks in the lgs are saying they can't keep one one the shelf & have an open order for as many as they can get.
Congrats on shooting with your dad. Fun times there. Hopefully you two can make it a joint hobby.
Surprised at the Sig 1911 issues. The three I've shot & disassembled/reassembled seemed well made of quality parts. That being said, I can't really understand some of the junk guns I've seen Sig create these past few years. I'll stick with their classics and the 1911's. No interest in their polymer stuff. I'll look elsewhere for tried and true polymer offerings.

Personally: Hell no. 1911 building is a skill that takes decades to master and many never do. I can assure you, building one, and building one worth risking your life on, vastly different. Every single part that goes into a custom 1911 often needs to be "smithed" to work perfectly, and there's a lot of crappy smiths out there you don't wanna buy a 1911 from.
Having shot them for a long time and seeing what good 1911 smiths do, I knew it was not for the casual hobby seeker. Not to say you can't learn to do minor tweaks (I did) for sure, but a full build out is another matter. I know one person who is on year 10 of his apprenticeship as a 1911 builder under a guy been build them for 40+ years and he's clear he's still learning.
It's also why those who really know 1911s, will not go near your less expensive 1911s and they will stick to known brands with much experience in building them as a rule because they know what really goes into a well built reliable 1911 and what it takes for them to be dead reliable beyond casual hobby shooter.
It's also BTW, why most people are better off with solid easy to run and maintain pistols from Glock, HK, S&W etc. and that's the opinion of two of the planets best 1911 builders.Last edited by WillBrink; 10-21-2012 at 02:47 PM.

Okay, so I was offered some flank plates for $60 by my boy's roommate. However, upon inspection, I had some caution. These are supposed to be the Magnesium plates manufactured by Coors Tek. However, I noticed the plates seemed to have a few stress fractures as well as chipping.
So my question is: has anyone ever seen something like this in plates? Basic deductive reasoning makes me think that if the plates got chipped or fractured without taking fire, they're probably not a safe bet. But that might be a shoddy line of logic.

Someone just asked about these pistols a few pages back. Do not want...
CARACAL F AND C PISTOL SAFETY WARNING AND RECALL NOTICE
Caracal USA has determined a potential condition of the trigger unit in a very limited number of Caracal F and C pistols that could possibly allow the pistol to fire when dropped onto a hard surface with a round in the chamber. Although Caracal USA has not received any reports of injuries, it is initiating this voluntary recall to protect the safety of its customers because of the remote possibility of an unintentional discharge occurring.
The affected Caracal pistols have serial numbers that begin with B, C, F, L, or M. If your pistol's serial number begins with one of these letters, please follow the following steps.
Only the Caracal F and C pistols with the serial numbers identified above are affected by this recall. If your pistol has a different serial number, it is not subject to the recall.
If you own a Caracal F or C pistol with a serial number identified as being affected by this recall, please do not load or fire your Caracal F or C pistol and contact us immediately to arrange to have the trigger unit replaced, completely free of charge, using the following steps:
Step 1 - Contact us at 205-655-7050 (Monday-Friday 8-5 Central Standard Time), or at info@caracal-usa.com and provide the model and serial number of your pistol.
Step 2 - After contacting us, we will send you a prepaid overnight shipping box with instructions so that you can return your pistol to us, free of charge.
Step 3 - Your firearm will be returned as quickly and efficiently as possible.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, and to thank you for your patience and cooperation, we will send you a free magazine when we return your pistol to you.
For more information, you may visit www.caracal-usa.com or call Caracal USA at 205-655-7050BrinkZone, Where Bro-Science Got Rabies and Died!

Stuck on an XCOM mission, too hard. First time seeing that flying disc thing that transforms into a flying robot thing and has tons of health. Has little bots repairing it as well.

At least they are addressing the issue without it costing you a dime plus getting a free mag. All manufacturers will have problems, look at the M&P9 issues with accuracy @ 25 yard which they are barely addressing, or glock FTE/brass to head that some people still seem to get even with the newest guns.

Well, drop safety is probably one of the worst problems to have with a gun, although I'm sure they'll sort the issue out ASAP. It's a shame, but then it is a new gun, and by the time it has a decade behind it, I'm sure it will be solid (if it doesn't tank before then).
The PPK is the sh*t, it's just a damn shame they shoot the .380 (9mm short, 9x17). I've heard they can be found in 9mm parabellum (9x19), but I have yet to see one, it's like a unicorn. Love the hell out of the gun, has such a nice trigger, and the thing is so accurate for such a small gun.
But when it comes time to buy a pocket gun I'll probably go with a newer polymer 9mm of some sort. Honestly don't have hardly any experience shooting guns that small, the PPK is about it. That is unless I can find a real 9mm PPK that isn't something crazy like $800.Do I even lift?

Long day was long.
Sweet.
And no permit required.
Too bad ya'll essentially register handguns. Otherwise would arguably be one of the very best gun and carry law states in the country.
Interesting. It appears that the vast majority of LEOs don't do as you say you would. I've been open carrying semi regularly since 2008. I've talked to exactly one LEO, one time, for about 3 minutes. This was in the Mall of Georgia food court leading up to Christmas. He asked if I had a permit, I said yes, I showed it to him, he said he only stopped me because some guy pointed at me and looked at him and made a gesture or some crap...on my way I went. Only LEO stop in years and years and 4 different states. And LOTS of time in malls.
This ^
You mean like you assume the person getting into their car isn't drunk and about to go kill a bunch of people in another car?
I have a hard time believing that the mere possession of a firearm establishes a reasonable suspicion of a crime.
I think I've mentioned this before...but you are more than welcome to join me as I open carry pretty much anywhere and notice how nobody wigs out, and notice what kind of very positive conversations generally result.
She sounds like the minority of people who just aren't reasonable and have no sense. Must be hard to be her.
BTW: The permit for open and concealed is one and the same here in GA.
I am still welcome, openly carried handgun and all, every single place I have ever open carried. That's a lot of places, and a lot of repeat visits.

I'll post stuff about my range trip today piece by piece, too much good stuff for a single post.
One of the instructors, who I have worked with before, got some shooting in with his AR15. It is a DPMS. He really likes it, and is happy with it. However, he claims that Federal XM855 is to be watched because he gets failures to fire every now and then. Today he had 2 failures to fire out of a 5 round string. He tried to shoot each again, and one fired but one did not. I took the one that had failed to fire twice in his DPMS, put it in my Colt, and it worked perfectly. Went bang, hit the target where intended, and locked the bolt back.
I fired 100 of my own XM855 (same exact thing as his, right down to the year). Flawless as usual.

10-21-2012, 06:49 PM #3027Friday night. Date night in Miami. Every night is a date night in Miami, and everyone's having sex. But for me, sex never enters into it. I don't understand sex. Not that I have anything against women, and I certainly have an appropriate sensibility about men, but when it comes to the actual act of sex, it's always just seemed so undignified. But I have to play the game.

Today I fired a total of 442 rounds.
201 Prvi Partizan M193
101 Federal XM855
40 Federal XM193
60 Prvi Partizan 75gr BTHP
40 Wolf Match Target (pulled the 10/22 out to shoot one AQT)
Only 68 were fired before lunch. The other 374 were fired between 1:00 and 4:45.
Other than the 40 rounds through the 10/22 I shot my Colt LE6920. It now has about 1,130 total round through it, and is still flawless. (including the round that twice failed in the DPMS)
I shot 8 AQTs with it today. I used all of the above ammo. Some obviously more than others. The POI between all three was close enough that I adjusted my zero (had to come 2 MOA to the right) first thing in the morning and never touched it again.
For those not familiar, the quick 'n dirty AQT Appleseed uses is 40 rounds with a maximum possible score of 250. A score of 210 or above qualifies as expert and earns one a Rifleman patch (I already earned mine, obviously). My scores were 222, 213, 212, 228, 189, 232, 214, and two not scored.
Stage 1: 10 rounds, 1 magazine, standing, 2 minutes
Stage 2: 10 rounds, 2 mags (2 and 8), begin standing with empty rifle, transition to seated, load, reload, 5 rounds each in two targets. 55 seconds
Stage 3: 10 rounds, 2 mags (2 and 8), begin standing with empty rifle, transition to prone, load, reload, 3 + 3 + 4 rounds in each target. 65 seconds
Stage 4: 10 rounds, 1 magazine, prone, 5 minutes (basically infinite time). This row counts for twice the printed score (IE, up to 10 points per round, rather than 5)
This was my best AQT with the AR. I used Prvi M193 on the first two stages and Prvi 75gr BTHP on stages 3 & 4
This score sucks (relatively speaking, still +3 over expert/rifleman) because I somehow got a 0 on one in stage 4, which = 10 points left on the table just on that one shot. This one was with the XM855. Again, same zero for everything.
Here is another with XM855 that I was kicking the fukking sh.it out of for the first three stages, but I bombed the HELL out of stage 4. No clue why.
