Technically, you don't need your CCW to carry concealed in AZ, but the restrictions are crazy if you don't have one. You can't be within 1000 feet of a gun free school zone without your CCW. I literally can't drive away from my house without being in violation of federal law.

The course was taught by a retired Detroit police officer. He also worked part time for the TSA and an armored car company in his retirement. Pretty cool guy.

I was thinking about pickiing one of thse up as well, but my middle son shelled out a hefty chunk of change for a full-auto airsoft rifle and only used it for about a week. When I get the urge to play with something full-auto, I just grab that instead. It's not as destructive, but I can shoot squirrels with it and not have to dispose of their bodies.

This thread needs a bump .

The bb machine gun looks cool, but at $700 I'd opt for real firepower. At least the ammo for that thing is available at the moment, much unlike ammo for the real thing, lol.

On another note, C'mon Crew and let's get some nominations in so that we can do some voting. It's my first time and I IS excited to bring in some worthy new blood.

Quick question for the EC regulars...

I'm in need of a new pair of wrist wraps (not lifting straps) to add some support to my jacked up wrist(s). I've been having problems with my right wrist for about a year now and even after multiple trips ot the Dr. for x-rays and an MRI, they still can't find anything "wrong" with it. He just shot it full of cortizone and sent me on my way. It has a neat pop and a click to it now when I bend and/or rotate it, and I am no longer able to do bicep curls with a flat bar, unless I want to spend the rest of the week with severe wrist pain.

Anyway, after trying a couple different types of gloves with wrist straps, I picked up a cheap pair of Gold's Gym 12" wrist wraps from Walmart a few months ago that have actually been helping a lot. Being a GG product, they're doing exactly what you'd expect them to do after a few months of use: they're falling apart. So, now I need a new pair. Instead of buying another $7 pair from WM, I figured I'd spend a little more this time and get something decent. Presses don't bother it at all, so I don't think I need 24" of mega wrist support. I'm thinking about 12" or possibly 18". Any suggestions?

I purposely posted this here instead of asking in general population because I don't want to wade thru post after post about how I need to strengthen my forearms/wrists/grip etc. I've spent the past ~20 years doing metal work, fabrication, car/motorcycle/aircraft mechanics. My grip and forearm strength is just fine.

I used to use some wraps that were made by Pro-Tec. They were neoprene straps with velcro fasteners. You could make them very tight if you wanted and the velcro allowed you to quickly loosen them when you were done. Unfortunately, it appears that they no longer make the model that I have - I checked their site and the one they make now is somewhat different.

I've had some wrist problems more recently that I probably would've used the straps on in the past. I've been able to resolve all of the recent problems that I've had with trigger point therapy.

For wraps I would look at APT,Inzer,Iron Rebel and Elite. All are great.

On Edit: I use 18'' for training. Also make sure you know how to use them or they do nothing. You should have them tight and up on your palm at least an inch on the first wrap. If you wrap all below your wrist joint like I see many do then they are not doing anything.I also prfer directional ones that have a left and right.

Have you tried resting it for any period of time mate? So long as you can still do pull type movements you'll still be able to make good gains with a wrist injury. I had wrist issues for months when I wa doing a lot of bodyweight and martial art training and it sucks, but at least it can be worked around.

The brands 4ME mentioned seem to be what the big boys use, but I've never used so I can't really help on this.
    My training log:

I've been working on Turkish Get Ups (TGUs) for a while now. Lately, I've been mixing them in with snatches, doing 10 snatches followed by a TGU on the right side followed by 10 more snatches and a TGU on the left side. For those, I use either a 20kg or 24kg kettlebell depending upon how I'm feeling. I like incorporating at least one snatch because that way I can start and finish the TGU standing up. The transition from one side to the other is quicker and easier too; you just do a swing where you swap hands.

Off and on, I've been doing single TGUs (without the snatches at the beginning) using heavier kettlebells. I had worked my way up to a 36kg bell a few weeks ago and it felt pretty solid. My earlier attempts had been somewhat shaky; I can remember not doing a very good job at controlling the roll from the elbow back to lying flat on my back.

Today, I managed to do two TGUs on each side using a 40kg (88lb) bell. The first pair (right and left side) were really solid. The only one I had trouble with was the second one on the left side. It took me a few attempts to do the lunge to standing; I think I had my feet too far apart. I'm pretty psyched about this because it had been my goal to be able to do TGUs with the heaviest bell I own. I might have to purchase an even heavier one now...

Good job on the TGUs. And, the weight is at a good level.(heavier than myself)

Gray Cook has done videos/DVDs/lectures on the TGU. Dan John has talked about them in past as well. Both are guys I enjoy watching/learning from.

I learned how to do TGUs by watching Gray Cook and Brett Jones in Kettlebells From the Ground Up. I have some of Dan John's books and videos too, but I learned more about TGUs by watching Cook and Jones.

That said, Kettlebells From the Ground Up is expensive. For a free alternative, I think the videos below do a good job of teaching the TGU too:

    KB,

I would agree some of Cooks material is not cheap, but must admit to having a majority of it(Jones would be in there as well, as they are a pair). For several years, I have watched/gathered Cook/FMS stuff, along with Dan John. Some Cressey/Robertson stuff, as well as Mark Cheng, Perry Nickelston and Weingroff.

Dan John is a bit different than most of the others mentioned, but has also incorporated some of the FMS/bell information over the past few years. He has always struck me as more of a non nonsense kind of guy. Cook is as good as they come. I have been trying to learn more about Cheng lately, and even picked up his tai cheng DVDs.

There are others out there that have given good demonstrations of TGUs. Gray seems to keep an eye on FMS, when discussing things.

To be fair, the price in the same ballpark as many other kettlebell technique/training DVDs. I also have their Indian Club DVD (Club Swinging Essentials) and have learned a lot from it too. I've been swinging Indian Clubs prior to each workout to warm up my shoulders. My shoulders feel better now than they have in perhaps twenty years or so.

Are there any other Gray Cook DVDs that you recommend?

I've watched a few videos on wrist wraps and have been pretty successful with the GG ones so far. They're only 12", but they're better than nothing I suppose. I appreciate the info on the different brands. I'll definitely look into them. Elite was actually the first brand that came to mind, so that's where I'll start.

I took about 6 weeks off last spring and ordered a super curl bar to alleviate some of the pressure on my wrist while doing curls. I worked my way back into it slowly and had been doing pretty good for the most part, but the issue is still there.

I picked up a set of the 20" Harbinger wrist wraps yesterday at my local PIAS since they were dirt cheap. I figure these will hold me for a week or so until I figure out which decent ones I want.

Update 2/26: After one workout, those Harbinger wrist wraps are already falling apart. The loop side of the velcro is already tearing away from the wrap at the stitching. Pitiful.

Anyone have any idea what the cause of pain is in my left armpit when I get to the top of a flye movement? Just putting my left arm straight out in front of me and then moving it to the right produces a fairly sharp pain. I can feel it when I bench too and it's really annoying. Could it be a tendon somewhere or lymph node related? It doesn't hurt if I push on it (not any more than it should, I think).

Hey, what's up ya'll? Still busy as hell, not having much fun these days. Maybe someday... I can't get my dad caught up on his finances and I'm almost to the point that I will have to pay his bills and physically drag him to the hospital and make him quit drinking/smoking. He won't quit for anything, and if I try to guilt trip him into it with the grandkids, he just tells me he has quit. Everytime I go to his place there are new smokes and beer cans everywhere. I am too young to have to take care of him, and he's really too young to need it. Good thing I'm already bald and my beard is grey, 'cause he's stressing me enough to make me that way if I weren't already.

My son's hockey team made the division playoffs for the Little Ceasar's hockey and the Michigan Amateur Hockey division. They had a tournament way up north last weekend too, but he got a game misconduct for excessive roughing penalties in the second game and had to sit out the 3rd game as part of punishment for getting kicked out of the 2nd game. That's the life of the team's "enforcer" I guess. Sometimes it seems like he's got a bullseye on his back though, maybe it's his number? It's 00.

I haven't been lurking around too much lately so I don't have any nominations for new Crew members. Not even sure that I deserve mine anymore
