I think I would be happy with 12 X 45, 4 X 35, 6 X 25, 6 X 5, 6 X 2.5 at each of my 4 racks plus 2-3 addition plate trees stocked.
Just a rough estimate
75 X 45 (3375#)
20 X 35 (700#) Or not even worry about them.
50 X 25 (1250#)
50 X 10 (500#)
50 X 5 (250#)
20 X 2.5 (50#)
Total of 6125#. That seems pretty reasonable but I'm sure I will end up with more than that. I hope it works out with Allison from York and I can buy a bunch from her.Nothing is impossible.

I went out last night to watch the Perseid meteor shower. Despite being out for about four hours and using two cameras, I only got one decent shot of a meteor. I saw some really good ones, including one that arced across half the sky above me. But I didn't have either of my cameras pointing there. There were some good ones too where my cameras were pointed, but the shutter was closed during that time for noise reduction (dark frame subtraction). I used 30 second exposures; NR required an additional 30 seconds which meant that I only covered that area of the sky 50% of the time. My initial plan was to have both cameras cover the same region of sky (more or less), but I saw two distinct areas where most meteors seemed to be falling, so I split the coverage up.
Anyway, here's the one photo that I did get...

One of the things I was wondering about yesterday afternoon as I prepared to go out was what focal length to use. I did some research and most folks recommended using a wide angle lens. Both cameras had APS-C size sensors. I used a Sigma 10-20mm lens on one and a Zeiss 24mm on the other. The photo I posted above was taken using the 24mm Zeiss at ISO 200, 30sec, f/2.0. (24mm on an APC-C size sensor is equivalent to 36mm on a full frame camera.)
So, for this sort of thing, you don't need a telescope. In fact, you need pretty much the opposite; a wide angle or even fish eye lens is pretty much ideal.
A telescope will be needed though for photographing small collections of stars, individual planets or perhaps even the moon. I've taken photos of the moon with a Sigma 50-500mm lens out at 500mm, but I still have to do significant cropping of the image to make it look decent sized. With a telescope, I'm sure I could get the moon to fill the frame.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

just a Panasonic fz150 superzoom camera, with maybe a 1.7x magnifier lens attached to the front of the camera lens. I have a 1.45x one too I can use along with the 1.7x at the same time but I don't remember for the second photo if I used either or both or not. the first one I did not I didn't have it at the time. makes for a super long camera but I bought a special manfrotto mount for super long lenses. probably more for a dslr lens but it works just the same lol.
the photo was straight from the camera. i'm sure I could edit it to make it sharper etc but I was happy enough with the result.
at this level of zoom the moon quickly travels out of the lens's capture area. its neat to watch on the display.

Nope. My experience, so far, is limited to taking a few photos of the moon and trying (and mostly failing) to photograph meteors last night.
I can see the need for such gear though for long exposures as I was beginning to see star trails with just 30 second exposures. I considered using shorter exposures, but that would've required higher ISO values. Now that I think about it though, it might have been okay to bump the ISO since noise typically shows up most in the darkest regions. When I processed the photo that I posted earlier, I used a tone curve which significantly darkened the sky. I probably lost some of the dimmer stars that way, but I like the way it looks better than the alternative. Applying a tone curve like the one I used to a noisy image would probably eliminate a lot of the noise too. This is okay for this kind of shot since I don't care about detail in the dark areas.
I considered turning off long exposure noise reduction too and it might have worked for the same reason, but I wasn't certain of this and decided that I'd rather miss some shots in favor of having what might have been a good shot that was full of noise.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

I'm looking to purchase some fixed barbell handles, both straight and cambered. Leaning towards purchasing through gympart.com, does anyone else have any suggestions?
Well, gympart.com seems to be out of stock, so I guess I'll have to go somewhere else.
My preference would be for black oxide bars!Last edited by dumb.bell; 08-14-2013 at 11:49 AM.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

What do you kind gentleman think about this trailer.? I don't know enough about trailers. All I know if I need dual axle with brakes. This seems to meet that criteria. Its up to you guys. If you say go for it then that's my new trailer. The only thing I would see having to change is swapping out the back gate for something with a ramp. Was thinking about offering $1500 cash and expect him to accept.

My contest are over, so next week I will officially start my annual Fall bulk (a lot earlier this year). In the past it has been a real dirty bulk (unlimited cookies, pie, ice cream, and pizza), relying mostly on whole milk, hamburger, and protein powder as sources of protein. This year it will still be a dirty bulk, but I'm going to try and add a lot of sweet potatoes, ground turkey, chicken, talapia, mahi mahi, and shrimp into the mix and see if I can't build a little more muscle and less fat this time around. This past January I was up to 228lbs, this year I'm going to try to keep myself under 215lbs. That way, I should still be able to diet back down in about 12 weeks time.
This should be far more enjoyable than the last 12 weeks. I can go back to using free weights and doing heavy benches and deads. However, I think I will limit squats to ever couple of weeks and stick to the leg presses for the majority of my leg workouts. I just seem to get a lot better quad workouts with the leg presses than I do free weight squats.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #39 ▪█─────█▪

CPL came today, faster than expected. I turned in the paperwork and got fingerprinted on 7/30 and was told that the wait is around 8 weeks. Under 3 isn't bad.
