Thread Rules
Rule 1: Don't come in here to troll or bash firearms owners. You will be swiftly negged in the ass, possibly with a rusty bayonet.
Rule 2: Don't be afraid to ask questions, but do a little research on your own first.
Rule 3: Do not ask what gun you should buy for concealed carry. This question is very difficult to answer as individual needs and preferences vary greatly, and we're all tired of repeating ourselves. If you have your decision down to a couple of guns and want feedback from people who actually carry those specific guns, that is an example of an appropriate question to ask. Also see www.handgunlaw.us for laws by state
Rule 4: DON'T BASH OTHER POSTERS ABOUT THEIR PURCHASES.
Rule 5: Do NOT link to any illegal firearms instructions or sites.
The Four Rules of safe gun handling
1. All guns are always loaded
2. Always keep the muzzle in a safe direction
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sites are on the target
4. Know your target and your backstop
Tips for debating with anti-gun individuals
1. Use facts that you can cite whenever possible. Example: http://www.guncite.com/ If they present information as if it is a fact, ask for a cite. If they provide one, investigate it. Often times understanding the source of the information will allow you to discredit it easily. Example: A citation that says gun owners are more likely to be shot, but the citation is based on a study of criminal drug dealers in downtown Philly who illegally carry guns while committing crimes (srs) (had somebody use that in an argument against me once)
2. Always give or request a definition of terms. If somebody uses a term or phrase like "child", "youth", "use", "assault rifle", "assault weapon", "gun violence", etc, find out precisely what that word or term means. Antis love to mislead and deceive by using terms to make things sound different than they really are. Often you can cut them off the knees because they won't even be able to get through a basic definition of terms.
3. Realize the difference between a person whose opinion you can sway (even if you don't change it there, but merely plant the seed) and a person who is absolutely dead set in their opinion. Often you can tell the dead-set type because they completely ignore all facts and evidence that do not support their position, rely on a lot of emotion, and probably react very aggressively when called out on their bullshit. In the latter case, where you cannot change their opinion, it is still a good idea to counter their statements, where their statements are incorrect or misleading, because there will likely be fence sitters who haven't yet made up their mind that are listening in, or who will read the thread/discussion later. It's good not to let rampant bullshit go unchecked.
4. Remember that the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of American DOES NOT GRANT US THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. The Second Amendment PROTECTS THAT RIGHT FROM INFRINGEMENT. There is a difference. The right is a pre existing natural right (some say it came from God) that is protected from infringement by the government via the 2A.
If you are totally new to firearms, find a basic/entry level class to take locally. Anything that is NRA Basic is a decent place to start. Project Appleseed shoots are a great place to get the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship (www.appleseedinfo.org).
Beware of information from gun store or range employees. Unfortunately the level of advice these guys often offer is similar to what you get from commercial gym's personal trainers. Some of the most asinine advice passes over gun store counters. You have been warned.
Post Pictures! We like gun pr0n.
Post pictures of your guns, your magazines, your ammo, targets, your trips to the range, classes you have attended. Just post pictures!
Examples of pictures that we would like to see:

Thanks for the URL...def does help.
I have a 4x32 BAC model acog. Its great, but am planning on picking up a sight for my father for xmas. He liked my trijicon a lot but is looking for a bit better magnification, hence the reason for looking at an accupoint. Me might use this on his AR or possibly a 308 rifle shooting out to 200 yards on occasion, but mainly 50-100.

Just recently picked up my S&W MP 15 and need to know what is the deciding factor on what size rail you purchase for it? Looking at the Troy Industries rails and they go from 7 inch to 13 inch

Most people get a rail that matches their gas system length. (carbine, mid length, and rifle length are the three options, with most being carbine, a few mid, and very few rifle). Yours is a carbine length gas system. Get a rail made for a carbine length system
That's the basic answer.

Rejection is part of life and if you go around avoiding it, then you aren't going to realize everything this universe has to offer. The quick, sharp pain of rejection you feel is a very momentary fleeting feeling that will disappear. The pain of "what if", however, can last a life time
