yeah, i've browsed through the forum a few times. i posted my trades in the currency threads (e.g. GBP thread, EUR thread) when i first started trading, but it's not very helpful - more detrimental imo.
so how'd you start trading and how long?
i got interested in high school, been on and off studying. first started trading for real a few years ago. took a long break, just recently got back into it. haven't opened up my charts at all yet, but hopefully this thread will help with my motivation.
i used to have a blog to help with my log when i stopped printing out all of my trades. i've been looking around for any pics i have left, but they're all on my work computer.
this is all i could find:
one is a metatrader set up that someone helped me with. i don't trade on metatrader, but i use this setup to help find some trades.
the other is just my 1hr chart of the aud/usd. i can't find a pic of my setup on fx accucharts but i usually have daily, 4hr, 1hr, 15m or 5m

technical analysis is just random luck, you're better off with index funds in the long run

For most people this is going to be true. Not everyone has the dedication, patience or even intelligence to be successful over the long run in a high risk market. Add to that everyone has their own risk profile and goals so naturally different types of investments work for different people. So you shouldn't belittle someone for their opinion on an investment strategy that does works, and index funds do work. Sure, this is a forex thread but it still needs to be put in context.
I don't rep back.

I wouldnt use forexfactory at all, if you have direct feed, use that. If you don't, you will be better off using dailyfx for their economic calendar.
For the person that said technical analysis is junk, you have to know that technical indicators in general are heavily lagging when it comes to the Forex market so knowing which ones to use and consistently changing them as the market changes is required.
good luck

If you want to put things into context, his "just dump into index funds" runs on the same line as "LOL, just buy gold".
All types of investment vs gambling in the market has much more research and analysis involved than just a dump and hold method.
actually, I had a live feed. dailyfx calender feed sucks, and their 'live news' section is slow too. ForexFactory is slightly faster/similar speed to the DailyFX calender, and you can adjust the time to match your timezone.
Either way, both are pretty meh. I am in the market for a new live feed, since the one I've been using has expired, and I've been feeling a little blind not knowing whats going on.
Also, I'm not really sure how I started trading, cus I don't remember. All I remember was I spent 5 months researching, then a year trading. And I'm still going right now. The learning part was boring as hell, but the trading got me hooked.
edit: I wanted to clarify what I meant by "sucky" for feeds. In order for feeds to be good, I need them to shoot out news ASAP, and I need them detailed. That's my only two requirements.Living a happy life

a good news feed would be extremely helpful, using forex crunch and its a good 15-20 seconds too slow
