Over the last few months I have been using shakes and always seem to have diarreah.
I am pretty sure it is the protein because it only seems to happen on days where I drink a shake or two, I have still managed to put on a fair amount of size since I started but I cant help but wonder if the diarreah is hindering weight gain. Does anybody know if too much protein can cause this? And if so do you think I would be putting on weight faster if I wasnt having the runs every day?
If it isnt affecting my weght gains then I dont really mind dealing with it but if anyone knows that it does I would rather cut down my protein intake right away.
Thanks!

How much protein are you consuming on an average day?
This maybe a useful read.

Thanks for that, I read through it and I guess it make sense. I will definitely try to increase my intake of other nutrients and see if that helps.
Im scared if I cut out too much protein I wont continue to make the gains I am currently making. Does anyone know if this diarreah caused by too much protein is hindering gains?

How much are you eating? 200g? 250g?
You don't need to eat more than 150g at your weight. In fact you can eat quite a bit less. Read the sticky in the nutrition forum on calories and macronutrients. Higher intake of protein is more important for cutting than bulking.
I wouldn't worry too much about the sh its, it's a short term thing, so the 'non-gains'(if that'd happen) would be minimal. Don't sweat the small stuff, eat lots (read the stickies) and lift heavy.BuilderBrah

im trying to get to the bottom of my shizzles too. lol. i seem to get them soon after the first meal after my fast but not sure its cause im eating close to 300g of chicken or the blue cheese with it, or the bit of hot sauce. i really didnt think if i ate a meal and say in 1-2 hours id have issues related to that meal cause i thought it took more hours to go through my stomach or digestive track.

Or MPI?
What kind of powder are you using OP? Some products contain a lot of processing by-products, depending where and how the powder was made, you could have some allergins in the mix you weren't aware of. Or simply the mix of the by-products don't sit well with the stomach.
I've tried several protein powders. A few gave me the runs. Incidentally they were also the ones with the highest non-protein content. N=1 obviously, but I've heard the same from others and it's not a too big of a leap in logic.Owner of:
