Is it possible loosing 60 pounds in 3 months with minimal muscle loss

Hi, guys I've been lurking in the forums for a bit and decided to start a 3 month cut

my plan is to eat from 800-1000 cals/day

initial weigh 223.2 lbs at 5'10, waist 38"

I plan to hit the weight room 4-5 times a week, with a routine centered around compounds lifts

    my questions are

1.Can I pull it off if I keep diet strict, I have some previous experience lifting weights, and doing sports just never really diet

    2. How much cardio should I need to drop 60 lbs in 3 months eating around 800 cals/day

I already read the stickies but 500 cals/day deficit it will take me like a year, so looking to grab the bull by the horns so to speak

I started lifting again 2 weeks ago

    squats 4x6x175lbs
    deadlifts 4x5x275
    powercleans 4x5x115
    benchpress 4x8x135

    any input/opinion would be appreciated

Whether you can or cannot, giving it your best try will mean that in 3 months, you'll be closer to losing 60lbs than you are right now.

    (Eat more by the way).
    Currently cutting.

    1. No

    2. Eating 800 cals/day is retarded.

Slow and steady wins the race.

    800 cals.... *facepalm*

Why do you feel in such a rush to lose 60 pounds in 3 months? I just lost 70 and it took me a YEAR!! But then of course I wasn't starving myself either.

Where were you 9 months ago to make a thread asking if you could 'loose' 60 pounds in 12 months eating 2,000+ calories.
Would have been much more practical.

60 lbs in 3 months is only even remotely a good idea if you are super morbidly obese. Like I'm talking over 150 lbs to lose. At your height and weight, no way. As others stated above this takes time. 800 calories a day is a horrible idea and will set you up for failure...

Just stick it out for the long haul. Shoot for a pound or so a week and do it right. You're either going to be fat a little longer or be skinny fat with lose skin everywhere. Your choice.

Ive never been skinny, either fit, or fat like now, I could pull 400+ for reps from the floor a couple years ago, with a 30" waist and decent muscle, but I just let myself go and now I look like **** and strength is gone =/, but i guess there's still some muscle, I will take pics tomorrow, heading for the gym now

Even 25-30lb is a lot and you can forget about losing 60lb in 3 months as it's not going to happen. So you need to set your self a more realistic short term goal. My goal is to lose around 10 lbs by Xmas and that's a far more reasonable proposition.

While doesn't matter if your intake fluctuates on a day to day basis and the metric to keep an eye is your trailing average weekly calories. You could lose 2lb a week on a 1,600 cal average for three month, slowly increasing your intake to around 1,800. However you have to be extremely self-disciplined to cut 2lb a week for any length of time and 1-1.5 lbs is a lot easier on your body.

You are going to lose muscle mass and end up being skinny-fat anyway. However at least once the fat is gone. You can bulk up cleanly and that's a much better place to be than where you are now.

Why not eat ~2000 calories a day and lose 2lbs a week? In 3 months that's 36 pounds or so. Even if it ends up being 25/30. What's 3 months?

Beyond the handwringing of OMGZ UZ GONNA DIE IF YOU EAT THAT LITTLE!!!ONE!!111!!!ELEVEN!!!!! you'll never be able to maintain that low of an intake for very long. You'll inevitably binge. Like said above slow and steady wins the race.

Besides, ~2000 calories a day will yield pretty fast results and will serve you all the way down to very lean.

It took you a couple of years to gain the weight, it's not gonna come off in 90 days. Do it right and keep it off long term. Trying to do what you're proposing is a recipe for failure, and you'll probably end up gaining it back plus more.

Bad idea. Too much too fast. 6 months, yes. 3 months no. What you've got there is an unsustainable plan full of misery and binging.

I've been getting ready for the last 2 weeks, cutting junk food and replacing it for clean foods, I already eliminated the soda and processed foods but it seems the consensus is I'm gonna fail miserably, well I will give it a shot and will be back reporting to let you guys know, if 800 is too hot I may bump it to 1000-1200

one way or the other I will report back with...

    1. average cals/day in a week
    2. weight loss/week
    3.lifts numbers

I moved from overseas, and started eating the standard american diet, and yes it ****ed me up, plus less activity because the lifestyle here in the US is more sedentary, I grew up eating more whole foods etc. I plan to keep it off long term I love weight lifting and exercise in general, so we'll see

Not for nothin, but if you already planned on doing this and ignoring everyone's advice, why create the thread to begin with?

Don't get me wrong, I definitely hope you see the results you're looking for, I just don't see a point to your thread =/

Either way, good luck and congrats on your progress so far.

I created the thread so people would help me work out the NUMBERS in the cardio department, how much of a deficit would be necessary, what types of cardio etc, I know how to lift weights and Im learning the ropes how to count calories

and also wanted to hear peoples input about calorie levels, achievable rates of weight loss etc

the low calorie thing is a done deal for me , at least for NOW, as I said Im not dogmatic, I may change in the course of the cut, but I want to start pushing myself hard, to see how much I can push, if that makes sense

I appreciated ALL opinions because I understand that posters have paid their dues cutting weight etc, so yes I listen

Yes it would be possible but not for you @ your weight. I lost 50lbs in a 3 month period but I was well over 300lbs. Someone over 400lbs could quite possibly lose 60lbs in 3 months

Dafuq? Does not compute. Everyone is giving you good advice and telling you not to do it but you want to go ahead with it. Do you think you are the first person to ever try something like this? Guess what, people have tried it and it did not end well. Thats why everyone here is telling you not to do it. If you already made up your mind, then why bother making a thread. If you're trying to find people to agree with you, you're on the wrong website.

If you eat less that 1200 calories for extended periods if time your body will not likely get all the nutrients it needs. Your body goes into starvation mode, you burn muscle and add fat. Trust me mate, I once thought that was a good idea when I weighed 230lb turned out I gained 20 lbs instead of losing 30.

I listen to peoples opinions and comments but, at the end of the day I make my own decisions(that's what I meant). I'm not trying to find people to"agree with me" not looking for validation, to be honest I don't think eating 800 cals for a couple months is some kind of feat or something, actually I'm on day number 2 and already feel great, I think my body is very happy because I'm feeding it 100% great healthy natural food, and a calorie level that allows it to get rid of the extra lard which is totally unhealthy, but I maybe wrong , time will tell, I will report back with the results, one way or the other

I dont know if this is meant to be a joke, or you are being serious, but just in case you are serious, when body is faced with starvation it tries to preserve the vitalorgans/muscle and burns the fat first, so no
