I recommend you brahs who are looking for big money check out float pool. I've done a year of surgical tele, year of ER, two years of level 1 STICU, and people were absolutely throwing jobs at me. I also recommend a nice, small hospital after you get a bit of the initial adrenaline of the big dog hospitals, which inevitably burn out the most stoic of us. Currently making $50/hr FT with solid benefits and the ability to pick up bonus shifts (overtime+ $10/hr), so making $85/hr to do **** all. I'm still on orientation (aka passed around the entire hospital for a few shifts) and many of the nurses think I'm god's gift because I can: start IVs, have decent diagnostic abilities, remain calm during codes and somewhat carry out ACLS protocol while the chicken pen chits itself, offer simple but good explanations to patients, so on. This is, of course, because most people that remain at the bedside are pretty new. I hear a lot of nurses complaining about how chit their pay is, especially the floor ones---I tell them they should just join float pool, you don't need critical care experience to go to the floors, and I only make $1/hr more than the med/surg float pool. The hospital is probably so desperate to plug their holes that they'll take you.
It's not the $130k and easily life of a CRNA but it's not far off. Beats the annoyance of being a travel nurse---while I've had to orient over and over every 2-3 days to different parts of the hospital, at least I got to pick a cool city to settle down in, have an apartment, establish a friend group, etc. instead of being shipped off to Bum**** Idaho to clean trachs at a LTAC facility. My best friend is in CRNA school and it is brutal---take the most OCD ICU nurse you know, they are one of a legion in CRNA school---but a potential path in the future. For now, I'll take this. Maybe I'll get a chit assignment every once in a while but making $25/hr to take care of a maniac TBI violent incontinent withdrawing patient my last five STICU shifts in a row, come at me jeffrey

I start part time CRNA classes in 4 days then the fulltime program in June.
Real Talk.
How difficult is CRNA school? For reference, where does it rank in difficulty relative to the bedside career you left to go to school? Or if you prefer, where does school rank in relation to the hardest thing you've ever done in life?

graduating with my bsn this May and job postings for new grads for orientations has already started today at some hospitals here (live in a big city).
anyone remember how your orientation/new grad internship was like, scheduling wise? Like did you have to do classwork once a week and have a preceptor shadow you until you had a 40 hour work week? Did most of you guys work at the hospital you did you capstone at?
Thanks for any advice

I got my acceptance letter last week and start FNP school in fall, but I just applied for a new PICC line RN position that they're opening up at my hospital. New program, so it's a fresh start. If I get it, I might put NP school on hold and explore my options as a PICC nurse. Only thing I don't like about the PICC job is that I'm going from 12 hours, 3 nights a week to 5 days a week, 8 hours a day; however, the hours for an 8/5 job is good, 10am-6pm. Can hit the gym before, and still do stuff after work and sleep in. Just sucks to go from 4 days off to 2 days off. But it will be a nice change from PM to AM shift and have all holidays off.

Congrats my dood. My best friend recently graduated earlier this year and passed the test. I don't know anything about them exams for pharmacy but he said it wasn't that bad and that the practice tests were definitely harder than the licensure exam. Good luck getting a job. I've heard from my buddy that the job market has been pretty saturated with a lot of companies cutting costs by reducing staffing at pharmacies, especially big named companies.

Thanks man! I was very fortunate enough to hop onboard with one of the past companies I worked for when I was a tech. Was offered a full time staff pharmacist position. Thank the lord.
A lot of my friends are still looking for jobs. Pharmacy is so overly saturated with 15,000 new grads being pumped out each year.
If someone asked me today if being a pharmacist is the way to go, I would say fuk no! The poor souls starting their first year later in the fall will be most likely unemployed with 200k+ in student loans when they graduate Hah sorry for the doom and gloom.
But I'm super pumped to pass my boards and start chipping away at my loans. We're all gonna make it.☆ Deadlift Junkie ☆

One of mine does. Other girls from the other units know that he's a player. He just got with one of the new girls too. I don't see how he can't just find one person to settle (I learned earlier that he left his other job cuz of too much drama dealing with this same issue lol). As much as I'd like to especially in healthcare, I'm staying away from dating on my unit. Can't really say that I'm "missing" out with my dude "getting in" on all the girls and I'm not one for sharing either or taking leftovers.
On a side note, I'm week 4 into my online MSN-FNP program. Lots of busywork and reading, but overall it doesn't seem too bad. Everything is self directed and as long as you got the critical thinking skills and do the assignments, you're good. Not really looking forward to skills day next month cuz we'll be tested on the advanced assessment (which isn't hard), but am a little anxious cuz we'll be working with live models for the pelvic and prostate exam. Honestly, pelvic exams and OBGYN are the LEAST things I'm looking forward to in my clinical setting. Fortunately though, they go easy on us this semester and I only have to do 3 clinical days/weeks as the 1st semester is to get us acclimated to school and this program. Once I start clinical, the count down of OBGYN patients begin....0/120 right now lol."Caring may occur without curing, but curing cannot occur without caring."

Congrats man! What was your GPA if you don’t mind asking and what kind of ICU did you work in? I’m barely 8 months in my nursing career, but I got in a new grad ICU residency program and currently work in a medical/trauma/Nuero ICU unit. I got my bachelors already and have a 3.79 GPA. Will I make it? Lol
