One year left until I graduate from nursing school and just got a call back from an ED extern position I interviewed for 3 weeks back. Pretty excited, since it's a level 1 trauma center and majority of the times they'll hire the externs after they graduate.

taking my last final for my essay/research class but I ain't tripping cus I only need a 12 to keep my B since it's only worth 10% of our total grade (Need a 110 to make an A, lol).
can't believe my first semester is over. I remember it was back in August and I was so stressed out lmao. Time flies when your busy all the time. The seniors at m school say that "Med Surg" is a hard class that we will take next semester. What is that class?

So I managed to get a B in pharm PRAISE JESUS. I also got a B in my assessment class. I've decided to take the job as a PCT on the CVCU at my local hospital. I'm generally feeling a bit unsure but ultimately hopeful that this is the best decision concerning my future. The pro's are I can get some great experience and have quite an in-road to the RN post grad jobs they offer for this health system. I've decided to take PRN for this PCT job. I have a second interview for a full time position working as an "ED Coordinator" where I would basically meet and follow up with recently discharged patients to get them set up with either a PCP or a specialist depending on what they've been discharged for.

Cannot make a strong enough recommendation for becoming a PCT while in nursing school. Depending on your unit management and how well you work as a PCT, you can be almost guaranteed a job right out of school. Our unit has created a very effective funnel where we hire, train, and prepare our PCTs to become RNs that will eventually work on our unit. Just being around the hospital environment is a huge bonus (as compared to working in a nursing home, etc)
Lol, basically how mine went. A lot of informal interviewing of patients, developing care plans, practicing therapeutic language/using open ended questions. Played a lot of chess with one guy and cards with a few others.MISC Blood Drive (MOD REPS): https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=175220881

Hi y'all, glad I found this thread.
Have been interested in a career in health for years; figured that out too late in undergrad, however, and now I'm thinking whether the extra 2 years required of a post-bacc program will be worth it.
Does anyone here think medical schools/med education in general will be shortened in the years to come? Some schools (eg NYU https://med.nyu.edu/education/md-deg...-three-year-md) have an accelerated 3 year program.
The long path makes me hesitant to tread upon it.Any way of identifying yourself based on something you've done rather than what you have or are?
No?
Then I'm not surprised you're unhappy.

Hi guys I am currently in my critical care rotation, which is the field I really want to get into. I would love to get into ICU or ER (work there atm) but I know its tough. I graduate in October with my BSN and plan on moving to Dallas for work, could I ask some questions?
- Should I start applying now? Any tips?
- I was in the military for 4 years, will this help me with application in anyway? Like applying to VA hospitals?
- Should I try going into med surg if I can't get into ER or ICU since those are really hard to get into?
- I have heard lot of hospitals, make new grads go through residency program and lock them in a 2-3 year contract that you can't violate......Is this true? This would be a problem for me as I want to start my masters soon as possible. My goal is to work a lot of hours and hopefully gain lot of experience in my first year. If possible, while working I want to finish two organic chemistry classes I have left to apply to PA school which is what I really want to do. I could go NP route which would be easier but I have thought about it and want to go the PA route.

Hey world! I recently passed my CCRN-CMC certs and am taking the CSC next week. Thoughts on the difficulty of the CSC? On AllNurses the general consensus is that it's easier than the CMC.
Also of note, my hospital system just merged with another one, furthering the reality that my city is run by two big healthcare juggernauts. What should I expect with the merger?

Hey peeps.
I've got kind of an opinion question I guess that's general but it seems it fits here. I don't really have any idea how this works and my parents never went to university so they're no help, and I figured I'd ask here before I looked into it further.
I've put off going to school due to some tough stuff that happened when I finished HS and I'm 22 now, looking to start uni this year.
I've got some personal debt as well as a car payment, but still live at home. I would need to take out a loan to cover tuition, and I was also considering getting a student line of credit to keep me afloat while I went to school as I could only work a decent amount of hours in the summer/breaks. If I didn't, I would have to work for another full year to pay off debt and save some more.
Has anyone done anything like this? (accrue debt from multiple sources so they could go earlier). For what it's worth I'm in Canada and the plan is Med School (after undergrad obviously). I think it would be better to start ASAP, seeing as hopefully the extra ~10k would be trivial in the end once I make good money, and would be worth starting a year earlier. Thanks in advance
