Thanks brah. Unfortunately I have the extra lobar type which apparently regularly comes with other congenital defects like heart disease.
Thankfully I feel perfect aside from having the taste of blood in my mouth at random and coughing up those blood clots.
The earliest I can get a reputable lung surgeon consult is in like 3-4 weeks. My specialist said after the consult she could pull some strings to get the surgery faster though.

Called the surgeon to schedule a consultation and I can already go next week Friday.
That's insane for a renowned lung surgeon so I figure my lung specialist must've talked to him and pulled some strings already.
Currently using Exacyl to stop the bleeding a bit.

Respect. You guys - well your counterparts here at the beautiful state hospital's criminally insane department - save my butt every day I'm on the floor. I couldn't do my job without the security guys. I can't tell you how many times I've had to call a code green because a patient decided today was the day that he was going to put his skills to use and go out in screaming, punching, spitting, biting glory - and I call out code green on the intercom and you guys turn on the battle alarms (serious we have battle ship sounding alarms for these situations) and come running in with a backboard, stryker stretcher and posey restraints and with the help of my tech's, kindly "assist" my patient to the floor and into restraints. It's really scary to run toward the fighting screaming patient (some of my guys are here for murder, some are serial killers, some are extremely psychotically assaultive), and I'm definitely still trying to get use to doing so.

Will do brah. Would you happen to know anything about the surgery, recovery time, ...?
I know next to nothing until my consult next Friday aside from it being a lung resection.
I thought it was extrapulmonary because I have an extra piece of non-functioning lung and couldn't exactly remember what the specialist said but apparently it's intrapulmonary. On one hand that means I probably don't have any other congenital defects commonly associated with extrapulmonary sequestration but it makes the surgery a little bit more complicated considering the hemorrhage in my lungs is/was pretty big.

Haven't coughed up a clot in 2 days since I started the Exacyl 10ml ampoules once a day. Can still taste it at times though.

So a few things for my fellow RN & RN Students:

I have the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Nursing 2014 Drug Handbook (red book), which is neat.jpg, but it doesn't have everything, especially vitamins, which is a pain in the ass when I am doing my clinical assignments. On my phone I have Micromedex, which is free, and pretty awesome, If there is an off chance you havent heard of it yet, then definitely check it out in the appstore on your phone.

My question is, are there any apps or programs out there for OSX (mac) that are comparable to Micromedex, because unfortunately it is only available on mobile devices, and having a reference that is that comprehensive and on my computer would be extremely useful.

What drug info apps/programs do you all use for mobile and on the computer?

here are a few sites i've found that seem pretty useful:

    http://www.drugguide.com/ddo/ub

    http://www.pdr.net/browse-by-drug-name

if you brahs have any other sources or if im way behind on this and its already been discussed earlier in the thread (most likely), let me know

Unfortunately, I dont know anything about lung surgery. My first year OR clinical kind of sucked..it was mostly endo. If I learn anything I'll make sure to post here or message you. Maybe someone in here can chime in about it. Here in the states, it seems like they try to get you in then get you out of the hospital.

Lol thats true. Saw more of her today..actually had her as one of my RN's lol.

I'm getting a lot of good feedback from my patients and the RN's..hoping all this hard work gets noticed by the right person and pays off.

Consulted the surgeon today. He's calling me next week after wednesday to schedule a final date since he's out of the country from tomorrow till then.
He insisted on getting it done as fast as possible judging by the size of the hemorrhage and that it'll be in the week of the 14th of October. I'm gonna miss my entire internship though, which starts on the 14th.
4-5 day hospital stay and 4 to 6 weeks of recovery at home. I won't miss any class this way but I'll have to reschedule the internship somehow.
I'm currently feeling pretty good but if I cough up blood again I need to get emergency surgery anyway.

I'm cross training in the OR over the next few weeks starting Monday.

At my hospital, we have scrub techs. As a circulator, my duties are limited to being the patients advocate and the rooms's gopher for whatever is needed.

That said, any OR guys have any suggestions of literature and/or videos for me?

I have failed the healthcare thread.. I just finished the HESI and I want to jump off a bridge. I'm not able to take the test again for 3 months and all the schools I was planning to apply for are all due before I can take it again. I'm not even going to apply now. Probably going to take classes to be a coach next semester since all my prereqs for nursing are complete

You havent failed the healthcare thread. Failure shouldnt be in your dictionary. Just gotta get that AnP and Science Comp scores way up man. Just study hard and do a lot better in 3 months.

If you still have your old AnP book, you can use that to study with. The prep books I had were kind of like a quick review..didnt really go in depth. Good luck and study hard.

I got fuked on my first time. I had applied for a 2 year program in denver and they kept holding off on getting the acceptance letters out. Constantly was calling and chit and they kept saying soon...soon. Anyways like a month past the time we were supposed to know if we got accepted/denied, these phaggots send out a letter telling everyone how they actually are no longer going to do the ADN and instead going to do a "prep" to get into the 4 year program. No clue if that meant bridge for a bachelors or what but I was fuking pissed that they decided so late to no longer continue the program.

Anyways just ended up getting into the school I was on the waitlist for instead so I went there.

If you are only going competitive schools there is the chance you wont get in. Just depends how you match up. As far as better chances, it depends on the schools. If you call them they may tell you what they go off of. Some do a point system where you get a certain number of points depending on GPA. Then they will add like 5 additional points(or whatever) on top of that for having over a year HC experience.

That doesn't seem like a horrible score. Depends on region /school/ competition.

Honestly it all adds up. Make sure you are presentable and the experience is well laid out. Be confident. High gpa always helps.

    Keep hustling guys.

Have first and only psych/mental health clinical tomorrow. Not sure how this is going to go. Would be fine if I could just talk to them but having to think of "therapeutic" communication responses might be rough

Had one last year and I had the privilege to pick a patient..picked the one diagnosed with schizophrenia. VERY interesting patient. My second psych/mental health clinical is in Nov. What sucks is that its in the same Hospital as my first year. Was hoping to go to the other one which was suppose to have much more unstable patients.

It will depend so much on what program you are in. My first semester I read everything. This semester they give us a much better idea of what will actually be on the test. Also just depends on how well you can skim. I probably would not read all 250 thoroughly because for 1 in 2 weeks you will likely forget a lot and 2 there is a good chance the chit they have you reading before class are chapters like "nursing today"

Are you able to access the website with things like what will be on the test/outlines of the chapter/chapter objectives?

But if your program is like mine you will be reading a lot. When I was in uni I rarely ever read because they would post power points and things. Now we barely get chit and they dont lecture over everything that is on the test.

I think as time goes on you will learn what to read and not. Not sure how your book is set up but our fundamentals was basically....first half would be information you should read but then it would go into the "nursing process" section which was so fuking repetitive Id always just skip over that part. You might want to just read the chit. 250 pages in 2 weeks isnt bad at all. 20 pages a day and you are good. Never know because they may hit you with a quiz or something the first day.

That's how mine started. Get used to it, material will increase in the upcoming semesters lol.

Its good you got a head start. You'll want to keep that pace up especially if you are a slow reader. Understand the concept then pay attention to the lecture.

Test taking tips, most colleges do nclex style questions for the test. I'd practice as much nclex questions as I can. Also don't forget prioritization..some questions may have all right answers but they want the best one. Remember your ABCs, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, safety, least invasive, ect.
