Just make sure you have a solid budget when it comes to paying off the credit cards. The school loans won't be an issue while you are in school, however if you go overboard on your credit card, it can come back and bite you in the ass big time. I did something similar majority of my nursing school. I took out a little extra loans to cover my car payment and apartment and had a credit card on the side just in case. I worked 10-14 hrs during school and over the summer I would go back home with my parents to work in the fields (brutal af). Was pretty much broke all year, until I landed an nursing extern that payed me pretty decent while going to school. In a way, the debt I was accruing to keep me up float gave me more motivation to continue to push for my degree, because I had to pay it off. It's risky if you don't reach your goal and you will have to pay that debt off somehow.

Yeah that's my main concern. However I am really committed to doing it so it'd be worth it in the end.
thanks for the insight, I've started the process now. It makes sense when I consider that putting it off by a year means one less year of salary when I do start making money, so I guess it would be worth it.
Kinda stressful to have to juggle finances alongside school, but I think it's doable.

Applying to anesthesiology assistant school this cycle. Am I making a mistake or is this a great job? All of the people that do it when I shadowed told me it was awesome and not to think twice just to do it. I'm either doing this or PA school. AA's make like twice as much but PA seems like it could be more interesting. Any insight is appreciated.

Hey mates. I have a CRNA school interview August 21 and am wondering if you have any tips. From what I gather online, people are reviewing ACLS and CCRN material.
What do you guys think of SuitSupply suits? I plan on checking them out for interview wear. Just a navy suit and my yellow knit tie with brown double monk straps.

Each school's interview is different. Some are get-to-know-you's, some check your clinical knowledge. I only applied to the uni where I went to nursing school. Mine was a get-to-know-you. It was a panel interview of 15 people asking me questions about my poor nursing school GPA, why I wanted to go into anesthesia, what I did to prepare, etc. I wore a light blue tie from Nordstrom, navy suit from Express, black dress shoes. Got my acceptance phone call two days later. Starting in January. Expecting to graduate December 2022.

Oh my God 15 people?! How long did your interview last?
Nice! 2 days later you were confirmed. That's so short. What do you plan on doing until you start?
If I get in I was thinking of taking two courses and first time travel nursing for about 8 weeks for the experience and the money. I would start summer 2019 and graduate 2021. I'm all about that Master's degree
I plan on wearing a lighter navy blue from SuitSupply. A white SS dress shirt. Allen Edmonds Oxblood Park Aves. and a bright golden/yellow knit tie from The Tie Bar.
From what I'm told I should be there from 0800-1130 meeting with several student representatives while the other applicants take their individual interviews with the program administrators. There's also a CCRN style test we take which is about 20 questions and a minor part of the day. From an AllNurses post a few years ago someone said all of the 7 other applicants were taking 10-15 minutes interviewing, but she had so much to say it went closer to 30 minutes.
FYI it seems like I'm in the first interview day. (I did submit before their application period opened.) The next day is September 17 (almost a month later 0.o)

Yeah, I was so nervous it didn't matter how many people there were, but I went in expecting to have a big group interviewing me. Intimidation factor. I was the first to be interviewed on the first day. I think it lasted about five minutes.
My plan is to stay on my current unit and go out as much as I can because I won't have any time to do this stuff when I get into the real anesthesia classes. Already knocked out three grad classes before applying.Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist c/o '21

5 minutes?! Jesus. I'm thinking how they can even get to know you in such a short time. Especially with 15 people. But we're in a similar situation being interviewed on the first day.
Holy ****. 3 grad classes?!
I have about 300 hours of PTO time to use because it would be stupid to walk away from an employer and not cash out my hard earned PTO.

I feel like it was five minutes. I'm not actually sure how long it went. I walked into the room and was finished by the time I knew it. Made them chuckle a bit, so I think I was OK.
Yeah, nothing too hard tho. Advanced patho, a class on Obamacare, and nursing theory. I have a couple friends a year ahead of me and they said that would save me a lot of time.Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist c/o '21

Samez. I even considered NP programs because I was so nervous about the interview. NP was going to be my backup plan anyway. Less expensive. I was only going to have to pay 3k out of pocket with my hospital's financial assistance.
I hit up sticklegs78 and rabbitw00t, two other CRNAs in the thread for advice. Feel free to slide into my DMs tho.Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist c/o '21

NP I'm definitely not doing mayne. It's just not interesting to me. Only CRNA is. If this falls through, I have one more app out there and plan on doing 3 more this year. But this is definitely my number 1 because I won't have to uproot my life to attend. I'm comfortable. I'm happy. And if everything falls, through? Apply next year.
How do you feel about getting your DNP over Master's?
Imma slide in to yours.
