Any advice for someone starting an accelerated nursing program in SoCal this Fall? **** is kinda expensive...I'm thinking about deferring and applying to ADN programs then bridging to BSN at half the cost but with almost double the length (1.5 years vs 3 years). I mean time is money but it would really suck if I finished the ABSN and couldn't find a job.

Hey m8s! I'm just checking in because I love reading what goes on here.
Also, I have a pleasant update on my road to anesthesia school. I just received my PALS (good I think for resume building.) I plan on taking the CCRN, CMC, and CEN as well. Do you think ECCO helps with CCRN and CEN studying? What are your recommendations for getting the CEN? TIA m8s

Thanks, brah. Everyone decided to sign up for the PERT team this year and we didn't have enough patients, so I got cancelled. Just got some strong wind and small amounts of rain. I even went out to the bars with a couple buddies during it lol. I lost power so I ended up having to crash at my buddy's place five minutes away, but no damage/flooding at my place. My old hospital got flooded pretty bad.
My old hospital's parking garage.
Extent of the damage at my buddy's place. Not too bad.

Need some career guidance. RN with BSN for 3 years hospital experience as telemetry nurse (travel nurse for past 2 years) considering getting MBA as don't want to do bedside nursing forever and want to make more money (ideally 200kish). Anyone get their MBA as an RN? I know it opens doors to climbing up corporate ladder in hospitals but wanted to see what else it could help with outside of hospital setting ie: healthcare consulting, maybe med device sales? Those that are CRNA's would you say you did it more for financial reasons or personal interest in the type of medicine and patient care? I have considered doing CRNA but my main reasoning would be financial which is why I'm leaning against it. Also CRNA's are capped to an extent. I don't really know what I would do with MBA and I don't want to get one just to get one, but I do feel like it would open up a whole lot of more opportunities and have 100% realized can't do bedside nursing forever. Any input much appreciated, thanks.

You should get a year of critical care, it gives you credibility in the nurse management role - which is where you will start and then try to climb the ladder. There's a chance you could end up making done big bucks, but the average salary is probably like 100-150k, but it would get you away from the bedside, which is why most nurses go into management.
If you don't like patient care, don't even consider anesthesia school. Not sure what you mean by "capped" plenty of Crna run their own groups and make big bucks. Someone how I survive on mere 200k, luckily my wife works too.
Sales is a great route and can lead to real money - but you have to be a good salesman: smart, good looking and charismatic.CRNA Crew

Thanks for the response man. Yea I've thought about climbing the ladder and I feel like luck plays a big part if you land big bucks. Do CRNAs make upwards of 200k doing their 3 shifts? Would be looking in Boston if anyone knows specifically for that area? Seems like a legit gig if you can pull that type of money I always thought they usually make around 150 but I could be completely misinformed. That kind of detracted me from it because I know plenty of staff nurses that can make that type of money granted they have to work OT. Two years full time anesthesia school with loans also another reason. I enjoy patient care but getting little sick of floor nursing to this point. Wiping asses turning patients, call bells etc. gets old quick. Probably goodidea to get critical care experience as have heard it's quite different than being floor/ked-surg nurse.

Market is pretty hot around Boston right now - for 40hrs pay is probably around 175-190ish.
I'm at a lower paying place and work OT/per diem to get up to 200k.
But, your point about the high pay of RNs in the area is very valid. We are seeing much fewer in-state applicants, for that exact reason. I left a union ICU where I was making 75k (10 years ago) to take out 120k in loans - so not the smartest move unless it's something you really want to do. My wife is an OR nurse in the city and makes 100k with a monster pension.
The interesting thing about anthesia is that if you leave the area, the salary (unlike RN salaries) doesn't really drop much, even in areas where the cost of living is super low.CRNA Crew

What are the actual clinical duties of a CRNA? Obviously I should shadow one for couple shifts to fully understand, but was wondering if you could give me general day. Are you inserting IV's, hanging meds? Intubating? Are surgeons tough to work with? Also, do you know anyone that went from RN to medical sales and how they went about doing it?
